a while back i went to a comic con where the writers and cast of Red Dwarf did a panel. i can't remember exactly how, but the topic of 'political correctness' was brought up and Craig Charles said:

"if Red Dwarf was made these days, you'd have two black main characters and a transgender AI!"

Red dwarf has so much tumblr potential. Its criminal that theres such a small fandom surrounding it consisting mainly of middle aged men and they're cool kids.

Its literally a quaint British sci-fi sitcom with fugly low budget graphics. There's insane ssxual tension between the two humans. They've got a diva cat, a male wife robot, Mpreg, and all sorts of funky ass scenarios to dip into. Time travel, space, alternate universes, Northern main character, trauma, backstories, and so much more.

I honestly think that if they gave the animation a bit of budget, an animated Red Dwarf special could be amazing. Like, an animated adaptation of the first two books, with good visuals, that accurately portrays the darker, more bleak tones would be my absolute dream.
