Master Pizza - Main Ave in Clifton, NJ
I was hungry before class the other day, so I decided to check out Clifton's pizza scene before I headed over to MSU. Clifton is my hood from back when I was a young'un, but I've never really explored the pizza options. Mistake? I'm not so sure that it is after stopping at Master Pizza.
With a name like Master Pizza, I honestly wasn't expecting much. First off, let me say that this pizzeria is in the worst location. The parking lot is right on a main road so you have to back up into a four way intersection to leave. Whoever thought this up clearly was not thinking. At all. Inside was hardly any better. It was tiny and awkward, with only one of those long tables along the window with stools to sit at. On top of this, the owner was sitting right by the door when I came in and started asking me what I wanted before I even stepped through the door. Like, chill out dude, clearly I want pizza.
Needless to say, what they gave me hardly constituted as pizza. I started with the plain and was instantly disappointed. The sauce tasted like paste and the cheese was kind of just sitting there on top, doing nothing to make the slice taste even marginally better. And don't even get me started on that sauce spot up top, it made me want to puke. The crust was pretty decent, but couldn't save the rest of this slice in the least.
My other slice was (I thought) a buffalo chicken. I mean, it looks like one, right? Light brown chicken with ranch? Nope. It was a bbq. And I specifically asked for a buffalo. For a bbq it wasn't bad, as neither the bbq sauce or ranch were overpowering. Still, I didn't want a bbq. And it needed a stronger taste anyway. The crust was great on this one, but once again, did not save the slice.
I wasn't expecting much, but Master Pizza still managed to underwhelm me. At least I only paid $5 for these two slices, because it was not a meal I enjoyed in any way and left me feeling a little sick afterwards. Avoid at all costs. Just go to Hot Grill a little further down the road instead.
