New Moon in Pisces! 🐟🌑💥

This new moon is occuring on 3/2/2022 at 10:34am at 12 degrees Pisces. It is bringing up a lot of heightened sensitivity and emotions. It carries with it a lot of powerful spiritual energy. It is the last new moon of the astrological year. Pisces wants to remind us that we must release to be able to start anew. It allows for a lot of positive healing and transcendence. A lot may be breaking through the surface. We need to imagine a different way to navigate old patterns, release toxicity. Don’t carry it with you to the new astrological year. It is conjunct Jupiter, which can bring lots of blessings and positivity if expressed well. There are several other conjuncts. Saturn/Mercury and Mars/Venus/Pluto. It means that communication will have serious karmic undertones. Your words carry weight. And that there is a lot of power to this new moon. It’s really all about what you do with all this energy and power. Your thoughts and desires and words can come to life. Make sure to be really tapping into what you want and need and to speak your truth. Use this energy to truly let go of anything that doesn’t serve and embrace what’s needed. 💫

As I was laying in bed last night, I was thinking about how I wasn’t going to have a tarot spread to post for you this week.  After posting free weekly tarot spreads for years, those weeks where I don’t have anything to share feel super weird. I accepted the fact that this was going to be one of those weeks and tried to let it go.

Once that happened and I started to drift asleep I saw the book Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley and suddenly this tarot spread appeared in my minds eye.

Doors of Perception is about Huxley’s experience with psychedelic drugs and how they opened this new spiritual doorway to cosmic awareness (to put it briefly). The book was released in ‘54 and, as these types of books tend to have, it was met with criticism. A notable point of contention is the argument that spirituality and religion don’t mix with drug use. Many believe taking drugs to have spiritual experiences diminishes the potential of humans to explore their mysticism and drugs are an illegitimate path to enlightenment.

To me, this argument is one that will never have finality because, spirituality and consciousness is all perception.  Everything to do with our personal connection to our inner world is subjective.

Regardless of your personal beliefs on the topic (although I am curious about them so leave them below if you feel called to!), this duality and contention that surrounds the book made me think about the doorways in our own life and our perception of them. What doors have the potential to open for you in this moment? What are you not seeing? What do you need to let go of in order to transcend? What do you see clearly in your own life? What is subjective vs objective?

All we can do is listen to our own truth.

How to Do the Major Arcana Grand Tableau

This spread uses all the Major Arcana to give you an overview of your whole year ahead. It is best performed on your birthday or on New Year’s Eve.

STEP 1: Lay out the Major Arcana in order.

Line 1: The Fool to The Lovers Line 2: The Chariot to The Hanged Man Line 3: Death to The Star Line 4: The Moon to The World

STEP 2: Shuffle the Minor Arcana.

As you do this, ask your higher power to show you a glimpse of your destiny for the upcoming year.

STEP 3: Draw a Minor for each Major.

One by one, take 21 cards from the top of the deck and place them over the Major Arcana, starting with The Fool. Then take the card at the bottom of the deck, and place it over The World.

STEP 4: Read the Minor against the Major.

The Major Arcana represent the important aspects of your life. The Minor Arcana reveal what will take place within these aspects.

The Fool – What will begin in your life?

The Magician – What dream will manifest?

The High Priestess – What secret will be uncovered?

The Empress – What will you harvest?

The Emperor – What will you have control over?

The Hierophant – What will remain unchanged?

The Lovers – How will your love life be?

The Chariot – What will make you victorious?

Strength – Where will you find strength?

The Hermit – What will you need to reflect on?

Sample Interpretation:

The Four of Pentacles on The Lovers – “Your romantic partner will be very protective of you, maybe even to the point of being possessive.”

The Ace of Wands on The Hanged Man – “You will need to sacrifice a part of your career or pause a project you are passionate about.”

The Ten of Cups on The Devil – “You will be focusing all your attention and energy on starting or expanding your family.”

If we tie it all together, we arrive at: “You will get pregnant this year, prompting you to leave your stressful though fulfilling job, so you could focus instead on ensuring you have optimal health to carry the baby to term. During your pregnancy, your spouse will be taking care of you even more than before.”

STEP 5: Identify the court cards.

The Kings, Queens and Knights are the people who will play a vital role in your life, positively or otherwise.

No number appeared more than twice. There is no discernible theme, numerology-wise.

STEP 8: Observe the ruling colors.

Black – Loneliness, regret, obstacles, purging

Red, Yellow, Orange – Passion, love, happiness, power

Blue, White, Green – Spirituality, logic, innocence, intuition

Sample Interpretation:

Red, yellow and orange are the ruling colors: “Your year will be filled with a passionate love that will bring you joy and a strong sense of control over your life.”

STEP 9: Record your grand tableau.

Take a photograph of your spread, and write down your interpretations of it.

STEP 10: Review your grand tableau.

At the end of each quarter, note which predictions have come true. By the end of the year, compare your interpretations to how the spread manifested. Doing so allows you to reflect on your past year, and improves your divination skills.

SCRYING 101

What is it?

One of the earliest forms of divination, scrying was employed by the ancient Egyptians mainly for dream interpretation and by the ancient Persians mostly to augment their physical discoveries with occult information.

Today, it is used for fortunetelling and meditation.

How does it work?

Scrying relies on the idea of visions. The diviner looks onto a reflective surface, asks a question — to a god, to nature, to oneself — and waits to see the answer unfold right before one’s eyes.

A trance-like state of mind is required for the visions to start manifesting.

What instrument is needed?

The oldest recorded scrying instruments are bowls made of stone and chalices made of silver. Our ancestors would fill them with water, effectively transforming them into mirrors.

Hence mirrors were naturally next in line. Particularly round ones, and later on, black ones made of obsidian.

And then came the crystal ball, which the layman would be most familiar with, due to its popularity in literature.

Which instrument is best?

Scrying, in essence, requires no more than a reflective surface on which the visions will appear. A bowl, a mirror and a crystal ball all effectively provide this. So it all comes down to preference.

Some find using a bowl inconvenient, because it requires looking down for a long period of time, resulting in strain on the neck.

Others prefer a crystal ball for the convenience. It is easy to travel with.

My preferred instrument is a mirror. Mirrors are portals to other worlds. I find it easier to see the future by standing right at its front door.

How is the instrument cared for?

Whatever instrument you pick must not be used for any other purpose.

If you choose a bowl, do not use it to eat with. Keep it covered in silk or velvet and stored in the dark when not in use.

If you choose a mirror, do not use it to look at your reflection. Have it draped with a silk or velvet cloth when you are not using it.

If you choose a crystal ball, do not use it for display. Again, have it covered in silk or velvet when not in use. Not only for respect, but also for practical reasons. A crystal ball is like a magnifying glass. If sunlight goes through it, it will start a fire.

Others ensure that no one else must look upon their instrument. I do not care if a curious family member, friend or querent asks to see mine. I am its owner. Another’s gaze will not change this.

Where do the visions come from?

As a Greco-Roman pagan, I invoke the Fates, Venus and Pluto when I scry. I humbly ask them for a vision that would answer my question.

My grandmother would often request visions from herself. Old age had made her forget many of her memories. Scrying allowed her to remember them.

How is it performed?

Take your instrument to a quiet and private place with dim lighting where you can be alone with your higher power or your higher self.

Take deep breaths to calm your body and clear your mind before asking your question.

Look upon your instrument… allowing your eyes to unfocus… and for sleepiness to begin settling in. This is you turning off your active mind and unleashing your unconscious.

Wait for the visions to begin. Take them all in.

The visions will not stop. They will only slow down. Once you have found the answer you are looking for, cover your instrument with a cloth and thank your divinity or your soul.

What kind of visions appear?

Not only sights, but sounds, tastes, smells and feelings could make themselves known to you through scrying.

Sometimes they are symbolic, like dreams.

I once saw a golden rooster and a hen printed on a cashmere towel hung in a white marble bath, with the sun shining through a window. The very next day, my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to a luxury resort. The rooster and the hen symbolized us as a couple. And the environment represented the place we would find ourselves in.

Other times, they are literal.

I remember asking my ancestors on my mother’s side if it is not disrespectful to them for me to also study the grimoires of my father’s family. I saw an old woman who said in my native language, “The urge to know more is never disrespectful.”

Why try it?

In addition to having extremely vivid visions coming to you directly from the source, scrying also strengthens your intuition and overall connection to your subconscious, in turn improving your skills not just for scrying, but for every other method of divination.

A Journey Within

Prompt: Make a list of all the things in order of what you’d do first, if you knew you couldn’t fail. Then answer this question: what’s stopping you?

Go back to college. Learn piano. Start my own business. These aren’t necessarily in any particular order. I would honestly do any of them first. I promise my grandmother I would go back to school, I’ve always want to learn piano, and god, would I love to own and run a small witchy shop. But damn is it hard to do all these things, chase these ambitions, working 40+ hours a week while trying to raise 4 babies. I barely sleep as it is. Can I really sacrifice more of myself? Do I dare stretch myself any further? I can’t. Making sure that I am healthier, happier, will benefit us all in the end. Once my babies and I are somewhere permanent, where we ill never have o pack our things again. Somewhere that’s ours and safe. Then, and only then, will I chase those dreams and I won’t fail.

A Journey Within

Prompt: Write about 3 things you have recently learned and 3 things you want to learn.

I’ve recently learned that I have ADHD. Something I’ve always assumed, but was never tested. But when my son was diagnosed, I did a lot of research, and yeah, he’s gets it honestly. I’ve learned that my ex is a true narcissist, and that almost all of who I thought I was, was basically just one big trauma response. What’s crazy is that I can remember the moment I noticed when survival mode kicked in. And I just let it happen. Fucking stupid. I’ve also learned to trust my gut and be quick to cut out the shit vibes. A process for sure. And because of this massive hit I just took in my life, it’s clear there are a lot of things about the whole of who I am that  need to learn. One: Who am I currently and why? Two: Who do I want and dream to be? Three: What do I need to do; change; build; and repair in order to get there? This journal. This self-inflicted mind-fuck. This is the first step.
