"aha! there you are" I tugged on my friend's sleeve.
"you found me!" they exclaimed.
"can we play again?" i asked.
"of course." they replied. "but we can't play for too much longer."
"... Why not?" i hesitated. I did not like when they gave me a serious look.
Their tone was lower now. Almost sad, though their face showed nothing. "You should know this. I told it to you when we first met."
"do you?" they tilted their head, chlorine stained hair falling from their shoulders.
"i told you. You cannot get attached to me. You have such a kind heart, but there are many you simply cannot love."
"why am i not allowed to love you?" i asked.
"this world is mean about rules. Every part of me wants to love you, so much of me knows it has loved you..." tears form in my eyes.
"Just as i have loved you." they told me softly, holding my face in their hands. "but this world says it can no longer be so. And not even we can stop this world."
I gently put my forehead to theirs as the tears roll down my cheeks.
"My breeze... My sweet breeze..." I heard myself whisper.
"My flame..." they whispered back.
Two sobs fell from my mouth.
My heart had been torn out, my emotions shattered into tiny, bloody pieces of myself.
Drenched in the blood that was my thoughts. Motionless from the pain that is my feelings.
Had it been wrong of me to love them?
And I will stay their flame forever.
I will burn the world and all its rules.
This pathetic place will not be where we are torn apart.
I always have and I always will.
