I go by Acanthus or Nether! I’m a 22 yrs old Georgia peach 🍑 ⚝Why Acanthus or Nether?⚝ My pagan name Acanthus comes from the greek name for the thorny plant genus of the same name. I feel it symbolizes the hard things I've gone through in the past but also the strength gained from those things. I actually went through a ceremony with a based and progressive pagan church to formally have that name. Nether is from a fursona I made a long time ago inspired in not small part from Minecraft that I threw all my gender longings at before I realized I was transmasc. I go by both at the same time because I think trans people with multiple names is badass.

the place I work at remodeled these split gendered restrooms into “inclusive restrooms” and never told us what they meant while construction was ongoing. I need you to know every atom of potential criticism or whining that could’ve happened disappeared when people found out this meant we got 10 fully separate private bathrooms with sinks inside. I’ve not heard a single person crack a joke about the inclusive signage. this is the world TERFs are trying to steal from you

This is called a "superloo" and terfs are actively trying to steal this from you, in the UK they changed bathroom regulations to mean new buildings have to prioritise gendered toilets rather than build superloos.

This also upset a lot of architects and designers who like the superloos. They're also typically more like small rooms rather than having doors you can look under.

I have a friend who was strongly against inclusive bathrooms because he felt that “bathroom stalls are already really exposed due to how they’re constructed, so no wonder women don’t want men in the same bathrooms as them” and when I pointed out that we could just… build better bathrooms… with less exposed stalls, he got really quiet and then said “honestly that sounds so much better, but there must be some problem with building them like that, because otherwise wouldn’t we already be doing it?” BESTIE we are. WE ARE. Old-style bathrooms are cheaply made, poorly designed, and all around bad. Haven’t you noticed that men’s restrooms rooms get weirdly sticky? Haven’t you noticed that women’s restrooms end up with giant lines? This is because these rooms are architecturally awful. And we can do better now, because we know more! And we are!!! People are actively designing better bathrooms that address known problems, and guess what: those bathrooms are “inclusive” in the same way that curb-cuts are inclusive. It doesn’t matter if the ramp was built for a wheelchair or a stroller; it doesn’t matter if the bathrooms were designed specifically for gender inclusivity or just because fall-apart-if-you-sneeze-on-them metal stall dividers with giant ass peek gaps suck. We can in fact improve our built environment to better meet our needs. Stop cutting off your nose to spite your face; stop settling for less just because someone else might also enjoy it.

Seattle's SEA-TAC airport has an all gender restroom that's a row of about a dozen fully enclosed separated little rooms that lock, with a shared bank of sinks and it's great. Love it. Lot of very strange encounters at the sinks, feels odd the first few times! But people laugh it off almost instantly. Because it's not actually a big deal to share a sink.

Every single one of you uses a shared gender bathroom every day.

It's called the bathroom in your house.

Both male and female people have used that bathroom. For some folks, daily.

Nothing bad happens.

You have total privacy while in there because you can completely shut the door.

Now imagine that, but in a public building. Just a bathroom like the one in your house (without the tub/shower). With a door that fully closes and locks.

Nothing bad will happen. We'll all just enjoy more privacy.

I wish more people coming into greek mythology as a fandom and not a religion would realize that it is in fact one practiced actively by real people.

That's not to say you can't enjoy it as a fandom. So much media is based off the greek mythos, and the poems and media that tell those stories are themselves media.

But I've also seen to many people carry over fandom arguments into actual hellenist spaces. Which is not okay. The gods, as gods, as a religion, are not inheritly good or evil. The concept that God must be good is one held in Abrahamic religions, not pagan ones.

The are gods and are forces of nature and the domains they represent. They are not good or evil, they simply are.

Do not bring your fandom into someones religion, and do not argue about it to them. You are enjoying a peice of media, they are practicing a religion, these fundamentally different things and both sides need to respect that

The Spirit of Spongecake Day and the Passage of Time

I'm 33 now. I've got silver hair coming in my hair and what beard I've managed to grow thus far. Today I got groceries and there are strawberries in my fridge. I was maybe 19 when I made that offering and in many respects that part of my life feels like it happened to someone else.

Not in the sense that I've turned away from it, but that key choices I made in my mid-20s allowed me to grow into who I am now. (And who I suspect I would have always been, had it not be for many factors in my personal life.) My circumstances have changed, but the past housing and food insecurity is never far from my mind.

When the offering was made, I certainly never expected that anyone would remember it after so long. Nor would I have believed that some people still mark it on their calendar as a low-effort, low-cost way to honor Loki with sweets and humor. I put the photo out there, but to was the Lokean community who decided what it was. You all, still, decide what it is.

As my circumstances have changed and I'm lucky enough to be able to, I plan on making a donation to a local food bank in my area on Spongecake Day. The amount depends on how much I'm able to save, but at least a few hundred. I say this not to pat myself on the back but to consider how Spongecake Day's meaning, for me, has grown as I have.

The core of the original offering was that I didn't have a lot of fresh food and offered what I had, even though I wanted to hoard it all for myself. Times, especially in the US where I live, are such that many families are struggling to get food or other things they need. For me, as an adult with some expendable income, Spongecake Day is more about paying it forward. Helping others. I strongly believe that if I have the ability to help, I am morally and ethically obligated to do so. And I believe this is what Loki might expect as well. I am, again, speaking for myself and my practice.

I see Spongecake Day as a day of humor, silliness, taking joy in the small things we can do and that no act of devotion is too small. I also see it as a reminder to care for others in our respective communities in any way we can. Especially in this current political and social climate, when government systems are unable to care for their people as they ought to.

Ultimately, the choice is not mine to decide what Spongecake Day is or will be in the future. Or if it indeed has a future. It's up to the Lokean community at large. It doesn't belong to me. It belongs to all of us.

On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.

i do find the rules around clothes fascinating because of how made up it all is. we invented the idea of covering our bodies from the elements because we lack fur like other mammals and then made up all these rules around it and now people will unironically tell you "men cant wear skirts its unnatural" girl none of this is natural. we are born naked and made up the rest as we went along. hope this helps.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
