⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧ A random soulmate AU with a member of the band consisting of about 500-1k words.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the tour! Here’s Remus Lupin of the Marauders for a solo opening performance :
Remus always tried to keep his head from wandering about the string on his hand. Red and it was drawn out in loopy circles, stretching to Merlin knows where, and almost glowing.
He tried not to mind it and think of where it leads. It would have been easier if he didn’t have the monthly problem, he could embrace it then.
But the thing is, he can’t. He is scared of who the other person on the line would be, and he knew what he will ask of them will be too much. He’ll demand something he can’t payback.
He has his fears about it. How his soulmate would react to someone like him, he knew he can’t hide it. He knew he won’t be able to just disappear monthly and show up without running out of excuses.
If even the Marauders who were as young as second-years figured it out all on their own, surely his very adult soulmate would too. So he is just scared, and a selfish part of him wishes to never see the end of the string, to meet the person on the other end.
“How’s the ministry work?” James asked, making Remus remember just where he was - that is, a pub where the four boys would meet every weekend.
They’re all out of school and living their lives out in the real world with very real jobs, and he can’t help but feel weirdly about it. 8 years of his life was spent in those castle walls, and now he’s just outside.
Remus shot James a look. “Do you even remember what Department I work in?”
James grinned, unashamed. “Nope!”
“I work in the Department of Magical Education, Prongs.” He deadpanned.
“Ah, whatever it is you do there,” James shrugged. “How’s it been?”
“Fine,” was all he managed to say when Sirius and Peter finally joined them. Peter dropped to his spot next to Remus with a huff and Sirius slid next to James.
“There they are,” James beamed. “You two got here together?”
“Nah, I met Wormy at the door.” Sirius shrugged.
The night was spent catching up then, talking about work and plans for the rest of the weekend, it felt like home whenever they all came together. They all miss their days at Hogwarts, those were the best days of their lives, and they can never go back but being together - it brought a familiar feeling of the vast black lake, dark castle halls and moving stairs.
They didn’t feel like 20 something year-olds when they get together like this, they’re just a bunch of kids again scheming their next mischief.
It’s well into the night now and the music has mellowed down, people piled out in drunken strides while the four remained laughing, talking in their own bubble. Peter suddenly perked up as if remembering something.
“Heard through the grapevine - a Potions shop selling Wolfsbane.” Peter whispered to Remus as his eyes were kept on Sirius and James arm wrestling, pissed off their minds.
“What?” Remus asked, incredulously. “Isn’t that, well… illegal?”
Peter shakes his head. “It’s not, but not entirely legal either with the restrictions placed on werewolves. But it’s legit, you might have some luck if you manage to stock up for the next full moon?”
Remus didn’t answer, just quietly nodded as he allowed the information to sink in. Someone was selling Wolfsbane Potions, on the market - which is unheard of. No one would buy one, knowing they’d out themselves for being werewolves and also, no one in their sane mind would market to… to monsters.
He tried to ignore it. But he’s 24 now, and soon he’ll be older, and the transformation will just be harder and harder, and Wolfsbane is impossible to brew - almost impossible, he could never manage it and yet someone is selling it.
It’s way too convenient, he worried it may be a trap, but Peter would never tell him that if he wasn’t certain. He knew better than to endanger his friends.
So that’s how Remus found himself standing outside the Potions shop. It wasn’t too big, not small either, and it looked homely. Plants littered the space outside and even vines grew out of the attic window, and right in front of him was a wooden door.
He was already here despite his doubts, he should really just go in but - the string attached to his finger was leading right to the door. His mind is buzzing, he can’t tell if he’s about to trigger a panic attack or not.
He stood there for what felt like forever, eyes tracing the string to make sure he wasn’t mistaken. And he was not, it was really leading him to the shop. He exhaled exasperatedly and took slow and hesitant steps inside.
The bell chimed overhead when he swung the door open, despite it being done slowly - he startled himself at the sound. It was then he saw you, mid-stocking your shelf, turning your head to greet the sound of the bell.
You grinned widely, welcoming the customer and Remus felt all the air get knocked off him. The door closed behind him and the shop darkened from the lack of light outside, only - he watched as the red string glow a bright golden colour.
He couldn’t explain how magical it felt, how he felt it pulling at him so he drew closer and closer until the string was only about a yard long, and it glowed golden and brightly. Remus stammered, unsure of what to say - he had been here for a Potion and yet - he found his soulmate.
“H- hi,” he managed to breath out.
You look down at the glowing string with an impossibly wide grin, then back up at him. “Hello.”
