Hunter didn't know why he did it.

No, that was a lie. He knew why he had basically attacked his uncle. The emperor for crying out loud!

He'd threatened his friend.

The teen didn't know what had shot through him, but at he watched his uncle take the palisman in his hands, he'd been overcome with the want, the need, to protect him.

Now, he was bolting down the halls of the castle, running from his uncle's throne room, with his friend gripped in his hands.

People were screaming, yelling to grab him, but Hunter kept running, deaf to their cries. All that matter was getting out, getting Rascal as far away from Belos as possible. His uncle could hurt him as much as he wanted, but he refused to let him hurt his friend.

A cry tumbled from the teen's lips as magic snagged his leg, sending him crashing to the ground.

No!

He struggled, but it was no use as the force pulled him backwards. He rolled over, panic choking him as he looked up at his uncle. He was an imposing figure normally, but with Hunter on the ground, he towered over the teen.

So disappointing...

His uncle's voice said, voice calm despite the rage Hunter knew was brewing beneath the surface.

I expected better from you, Hunter...

Hunter clutched Rascal close to his chest, sending him as much as a glare as he could manage.

I wont let you hurt him.

Hunter hissed through bared teeth. The emperor tilted his head.

And how exactly do you plan on stopping me from doing so? You're powerless without your staff.

Hunter didn't respond, pressing his lips into a fine line. He was right. he had no power here, there was nothing he could do to protect his friend. He pushed away the thoughts of how pathetic he must look, just a child being punished. He wished he could hide behind his mask, wished that everyone would disappear, so they didn't have to see him in this weak state.

Hunter squeezed his eyes shut and clutched Rascal tighter as he bent down to take the Palisman from him.

To his surprise, instead of his friend being ripped from his hands, he felt the floor disappear under him, the magic releasing his leg as he started falling. His eyes flew open, and he was met with sky. He turned his head and caught sight of a beach. A beach he was rapidly descending towards.

Candy was laying out on the beach... Arms stretched out to their maximum.. just soaking up sun.

And he seemed to be enjoying it too! That is.. Until the fated portal opened up and swallowed him whole. Spitting him out rather barbarically into the next dimension.

And, well... Lucky for him he could float, instinctively summoning every protective measure in his list of powers to stop himself from breaking in two... His skin glowing a soft pink under the sudden stress

Not that he doubted it, but he was very relieved when he landed safe and sound in the sand below, slowly but surely returning to his.... Normal shade of pink, the glow gone.
