Uunvraxis had been searching the Ancient Basin for materials for his construction project when he saw... them.

He couldn't tell who, or even what, they were, but they were hauntingly familiar to him.

And so he approached them.

"Hi," He said, waving his hand. "May I ask who you are?"

By the Void, they were even more familiar to him up close, but he couldn't quite place them...

*The figure turns their head toward the snail shaman, squinting slightly in the dark to see him better. They fully spin around to face him, their tail shaking like a rattlesnake before ceasing and going limp.*

*They hear his question, then they stop to think before hoarsely answering.*

We aren't ourself. We- we recognise you.

Uunvraxis tilted his head.

That tail...

"You say you recognize me. I could say the same. I feel as though I recognize you. I am not sure why.

"My name is Uunvraxis, and I am a Snail Shaman. I am... attuned, let's say, to the Void."

Uunvraxis made an effort to look as non-threatening as he could. The creature before him was clearly uncertain and scared. He didn't want to make that feeling any worse.

*It stumbles slightly, attempting to take a tentative step toward Uunvraxis, but it trips on the horn of a fallen vessel and falls forward, landing on it's face.*

Uunvraxis winced as they called the Void "vile," but before he could really complain, he watched as they fell over.

"Oh, that looked like a nasty fall," He said, taking a step forward and reaching a gentle hand out to help them up. "Are you okay?"

*They get up without taking the shaman's hand, holding onto one of the dead vessel's mask.*

We are fine. Why do you come down here, shaman? We assume you are here voluntarily, although your motive for such an action remains alien to us, as many things do.

"I came down here to look for possible building materials. I have a, uh, a construction project, I guess, that I'm working on. And then... I saw you. And you looked familiar to me."

He was a little uncomfortable that this bug was just calling him 'Shaman,' despite the fact that he did give his name, but... He was used to these sorts of microaggressions.

*They glare at him, not entirely believing that it's by mere coincidence that the first bug they meet after waking in the Abyss with little to no memory of who they are or what is going on.*

*They step closer, their tail raising again and they hiss at Uunvraxis, narrowing their gaze.*

"I don't know who you are, yet. Not for sure. But you look familiar to me. Let me think."

With that, Uunvraxis sat down, and put his hands to his temples.

He rubbed circles on his skin and tried to think.

"You're black. Okay. How many bugs do I know with that color palette?" He thought out loud.

Ugh. The answer was too many. Can he narrow it down?

The head shape. The tail.

... Yes. Okay.

"... I don't believe I ever got your name," Uunvraxis said. "But I do know you. You were there. When I was fighting the Lament with the Pale King. You helped us. You did a lot to help us in the fight."

He sighed, trying to think about it.

"I think you were a Wyrm. Are? Are a Wyrm? Do... Wyrms even have names? I always assumed they just used titles, like most gods. Usually ones relating to their colors. So you're... What? The Night Wyrm? The Ebony Wyrm? Or maybe you kept it simple and called yourself the Black Wyrm or something."

Uunvraxis stood up, shaking his head.

"Sorry. I wish I could tell you more, but back when we met, well... I tried to steer clear of adventure and new bugs. It just seems that adventure doesn't want to let me go, though. I wish I had gotten your name at least once... And that I was paying attention when I did. I got a good memory, normally."

*Their eyes widen when the subject of the Battle with Lament comes up. They suddenly stiffen, their face taking up a more worried expression.*

The Pale King, Strelitza.

Oh gods, that's right...

Strelitza wasn't himself. We remember this.

*They stop to think for a moment until Uunvraxis mentions the name Blackwyrm and it is as if they were struck by a bolt of lightning.*

Blackwyrm! They called us that, before this happened. Before we designed this new body, before...

It's so hazy, like a dream half remembered...

*They sigh before sitting down on the ground, head in their hands.*

You best go find your materials, Shaman. We need a moment.

"Okay. I'm glad I could help. If you... ever want to talk to me again. Well. Chances are I'm in the Abyss or the Ancient Basin. I... I wish you luck remembering these things."

so how does being reborn feel

*The thing wandering the Abyss seems a little bit more stable, the sharp horns on it's head are the same size now and the cloak it draped over itself now covers all of its lower body. It also has made a makeshift hood from scraps so that it's face is mostly obscured apart from it's eyes.*

*It scratches it's throat and whips it's tail against the ground impatiently before it stops and retches for a moment. It then clears it's throat and hoarsely speaks.*

*It waves gently with a long thin arm and one can see it's true size as it does so. It seems to be crouching, but it looks like if it stood up fully, it would be the height of a sentinel.*

*Within moments of processing that they are of similar(?) size, the creature's fur rises slightly, but they keep such tension out of their voice as they give a sort of series of sounds consisting of rumbling, chirps, clicks, and only a few bursts of churring.*

*It nods in understanding, but pokes at it's throat with one of it's claws, and then not making any sound.*

*Something in the dark crawls among piles of the husks of old vessels, tripping and stumbling as it goes. It looks up at the ruins of the White Palace, squinting as the dim light from it hits it's eyes.*

*It falls over, smashing the mask of one of the void touched husks under it's weight. It notices an empty cloak of one of the dead vessels and it looks at the cloth before fastening it around it's body. It then resumes it's climb.*

Tiny worm?

*It is noticeable that there is a stroke of blood leading away from the wound, it seems to suggest that perhaps it was caused by a tail that was covered in the red sticky liquid.*

*Pieces of dark bloodstained carapace lay scattered across the void infused ground.*

*A breach, there is a breach in the wyrm's carapace, atleast the size of one of the kingsmould, fresh blood and void leaking out of it. *

*Something has ripped it's way out of the dead god.*
