For years now, I have been deeply ashamed of every new scandal that has been coming out of the Church. Those who were supposed to act as Servants of God has been committing abominable crimes and has yet to answer them. Sexual attacks on minors, bribery, corruption, spreading hatred towards the LGBTQIA+ community, manipulating those seeking abortion, trapping and guilting couples to stay in loveless/abusive marriages, etc. And the worst of it all? The Church has been trying to cover it up. It’s no wonder why millions of people abandon the Catholic faith. And if the Church continues its regressive stance on certain controversial issues, millions more will leave.

I used to have a tendency to turn away from these things because it violates my belief that the Church is supposed to be flawless and pure, and depending on who you ask, in many ways it is. A perfect religious structure supported by sinful, imperfect people. But we cannot ignore the ugly mess that's been hidden underneath the floors nor the skeletons that has been racking up inside the closet. From now on I will not shy away, but to display any and all wrongdoings that must be corrected by true justice.

For crimes committed by the priests and clergy: St. John Vianney, pray for us. 🙏🏻

For the harm committed and misguided actions by the Catholic community: O Mariam, Blessed Holy Mother, pray for us. 🙏🏻

And praying for the victims that are traumatized and negatively affected by the people addressed above; may they be able to find peace and justice. Amen. ✝️

One of the things I love most about Conclave besides literally everything is the element of tenderness and care running through the film. Despite what some people interpret it as, it’s not meant to be a gotcha. It holds a mirror up to some of the nastier parts of clericalism, Vatican politics and the institutional church but uses this to show the divisions between what the church has become and what the faith is meant to be, and does this all in a way that was somewhat unexpected and pleasantly surprising.

I don't remember if I already posted this but Mr. Holdsworth has some good points: most notably that this creepy doll takes away from what the jubilee year actually is about, by pointing to something in popular culture (chibi-style dolls and anime) instead of pointing to the Divine through something like Sacred Art.

As an adult if you're obsessed with Luce it's just flat out embarrassing, this is clearly meant for children.

Meanwhile I see no one talking about the actual Sacred Art associated with this Jubilee Year, so I will share it below.

It’s not creepy that’s a personal opinion and not fact

Yes it’s for children. We’re allowed to like stuff for children. People who get mad at adults liking stuff for children are just anti-fun. There is no reason adults cannot like her and it’s not embarrassing; that idea was made up by people with giant tic sticks up their ass.

Evangelism is about meeting people where they’re at and making the Word approachable. I’ve already seen many people engage with Catholicism specifically because of Luce.

It’s not causing division. The people baulking at this are the same trad weirdos who are basically heretics in the first place. There’s no theological basis for opposing this; if anyone genuinely turns away from the church because of a mascot I hope the door hits them on the way out.

Opposition to this is baseless and entirely born of personal taste and not of any genuine reason

as for the “i see nobody talking about this sacred art” thing: yeah Caravaggio is awesome. but its not like its a new thing nor are the majority of people willing to study the composition of an art piece.
