Adore every little slithery-outing decision that was made in regards to the Valeskas. Not to mention Ecco’s whole deal. It’s kind of a miracle the show even managed to get as far as season 5 without being taken to court. Anyway, Jeremiah’s season 5 look (and hell, even his season 4 look) are probably some of my favourite Joker designs ever.

I don't know if I will ever feel comfortable coming out as aroace, despite being comfortably aroace. The other day someone asked me if I was queer and I felt so uncomfortable saying yes, because even if it is true, I knew it was still painting the wrong picture in this persons mind. And throughout the rest of the evening it was obvious they thought I was bi but I couldn't correct them because it's not an easy "oh I'm not X I'm Y", it's a whole new conversation: opening yourself up to uncomfortable and invasive questions, opening yourself up to the other persons astonishment and bafflement which just makes you feel more othered, opening yourself up to being hurt by casual assumptions and dismissive comments or just plain awkward silence. and usually it ends with the feeling that you didn't do enough to paint the right picture, to explain everything in a way that leaves no false impressions, that you didn't find the right words to make them truly understand you. despite such understanding taking years and years of work. It's so frustrating!

I’m so tired of the “why do people hate aspecs, they aren’t doing anything?” argument. I know that it is an attempt to support us, but it fails so spectacularly to understand aromanticism, asexuality, and any other aspec identity that it’s actively frustrating.

We are doing something. We’re rejecting allonormative ideals and that’s a massive thing to do. We’re actively fighting not just to help other aspecs, but to help everyone, because amatonormativity (and allonormativity as a whole) hurt everyone. Single people who want to find a partner but can’t also deserve to be able to exist.

There are so many issues with the expectation of marriage, including:

A single income isn't enough to get by anymore

Having a spouse is almost necessary under the current medical system

Society shames and pressures people who are single to get into relationships constantly

Rejecting allonormativity means fighting against these things that hurt everyone.

So, no, aces and aros and other aspecs aren't "doing nothing." We're doing quite a lot.

Been trying to find this for ages! I love the vampire vibe. Very reminiscent of Lucy and Arthur, at least to my mind, especially from the Hammer Horror film. Totally nailed the Junji Ito look too - Perry’s expression when he smiles is PERFECT. The entire work is just so cool!

Lili Elbe paintings by wife, Gerda Wegener

Tbh these paintings tell me more about the nature of Lili and Gerda's relationship than any of the documents I found regarding their story together.

I'm sorry but i find it very hard, almost impossible to believe, that these two women didn't share a bond stronger than merely friendship like everyone seems to imply in documents.

Look at the third painting. Look at how Lili looks at her, how Gerda chose to depict her wife's stare and look, the pose and the composition, their bodies together as Gerda plays. This painting alone shows a bond that was romantic to a certain degree. The fact they remained married until the godamn king of Denmark dissolved their marriage. Why not divorce? Why stay married to each other and prevent each other from finding love elsewhere? Because they probably didn't want to find love anywhere else, because they already had it right there.

One of the (many) sins of both the film and book adaptations based on Lili’s life - The Danish Girl - was its choice to erase any trace or implication of lesbianism from their story. Gerda Gottlieb’s work was heralded as lesbian erotica for crying out loud! While it’s impossible to know the truth regarding the two, the forced hetero-ifying of Gerda and Lili makes me sad for them. Not to mention how a sapphic Gerda would have made the film quite a bit less offensive (in regards to how Gerda approached Lili’s transition). The roots were rotten from the start when they decided to adapt the novel instead of just making a biopic, but it seriously could have been handled better.

It’s been suggested that Lili may have had to ‘play straight’ in order to have her transition legally accepted - as in the 1920s and 30s sexuality and gender were considered as going hand in hand, women love men, so on and so forth. In addition to this, it’s highly possible that Lili wrote her diary entires (which i have yet to read) deceptively in order to prevent any doubt being cast on the validity of her gender identity, so her true feelings, the ones that didn’t conform to what a bunch of cis doctors thought, remain unknown.

Regardless, the art is gorgeous, and I love seeing them together.
