So I wanna know your thoughts.
Basically, I’ve been getting a lot of shit from people I know because I, a black college student, want to rush a typically ‘white’ sorority.
The sorority does not have any other black students in it, while there are a few other minorities.
When I talk to my friends about it, they just say, “Well why don’t you join a black sorority? Why don’t you stick to your own?”
Personally, I get angry when people (mostly black people) try and tell me what I can and can’t do because I am black.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Advice? Any black girls in ‘white’ sororities? Please let me know.
This stuff frustrates me so much. People give sororities like Alabama's Alpha Phi shit for not being "diverse" enough, yet the moment a black girl tries to join OTHER BLACK PEOPLE discourage her. You can't blame them for lack of diversity and then stand in the way of them becoming diverse. Ignore everyone who tells you to "stick to your own". My situation is different as my organization (a Canadian national sorority) is not "white" or "black" or "Latina" or "Asian". We are just us. We have girls of all shapes, sizes, colours and ethnicities. I don't know where you are going to school so I don't know what your Greek culture is like. All I know is that it's so important to join a sorority where you can be YOU, and if you don't feel you can do that in a black org, then you shouldn't join simply because of the pigment of your skin. Be true to yourself because real sisters will love you no matter what. Good luck with rush. 💜
