Making circle squares for a quilt! ✋🏻🧶
Here are my works in progress, after a very VERY long time! On the left we have a double-stranded DK honeycomb scrap blanket, about a quarter of the way done, and on the right we have one square from a circles-squared worsted quilt, which is about halfway there. Both of these will be available to commission as soon as I can give an estimate, so gear up for the holidays and gift your loved ones something spectacular! 🎁🎄
Update on Baby Bash: I will be postponing the first episode until May 29, because I was socially burned out and ill last week and didn’t get to where I wanted with Starwalker illustrations. Thus, I will be streaming those from Youtube Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The Obligatory Roe vs. Wade Post (It’s Not as Controversial as You Think)
I don’t really like discussing politics online because it so frequently becomes a reason for harassment. But regardless of how anyone feels about it, it is likely Roe vs. Wade will be overturned in the U.S. Supreme Court. And that will leave mothers without access to abortion - again, regardless of how you feel about the morality of that. And I think people on both sides of the issue can see the merit in helping struggling young mothers without access to abortion.
In light of this, I have decided to do a charity project. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays I livestream myself doing art. I will soon be approaching the end of Starwalker illustrations, and I will not be illustrating Sage and Failsafe until Part 4 of Starwalker has begun releasing. With this in mind, I want to do something different.
What is it, you ask? Well, it’s going to be what I call a “Baby Bash” beginning May 19. I’m going to be crocheting several full infant wardrobes and donating them to charity (the details are fuzzy right now, but I hope to work out the kinks of which charities I will be supporting).
If you would like to join in, here are some ideas:
1. Look up baby clothing drives near you and donate clothing and supplies to those if you have the means.
2. Share this post! I would love if others did their own “baby bash.” I will not be hosting as a unified event until I have worked out which charities I am donating to, because I do not want to have a bunch of squabbling about where we will be donating to.
3. Join the conversation with me on Discord (you’ll need to DM me for my server link since I do not post it publicly, or look in my bio). I am always willing to have respectful and kind people on my art streams with me.
4. Check out my Youtube streams and consider sending in a superchat during the stream if you support where I will be donating to. Proceeds will be used to purchase more yarn for Baby Bash.
The first episode is linked below, and will begin again on MAY 19, 2022. This series will continue until I run out of yarn.
Reblogged from my main blog.

Ooh ooh ooh I wanna make this
One of my favorite patterns ever!
Almost finished with Panel 2 of @eaudecrow’s Feather Wings Shawl! Unfortunately, I ran out of yarn about 9/10s of the way done. I’ve ordered more, so in the meantime I’m going to work on Panel 3 and hopefully by the time the yarn arrives I will have finished it. We’re in the home stretch!
Well. I have found something very…
Hm.
I did not expect to see a pattern for a crocheted penis this early in the morning.
Or ever.
Huh.
Anyone else have that problem where you crochet so much that you end up with a sore arm and knuckles that feel like they’re being poked with needles? Just me? A’ight.
What are your thoughts on “plarn”?(refashioning plastic bags into “plastic yarn”) I’m cleaning out my FMIL’s cabinet of plastic bags, and there’s so many I couldn’t make enough trash to reuse these as garbage bags in a decade 😬. My craft brain says “make into useless plarn baskets” but I wonder if there is a better way to reuse or repurpose them?
Plarn (plastic bag yarn)
To be honest, I haven't used plarn since I was a kid.
That said, it's always better to use what you have rather than throw it away. We can't undo the fact that these bags have already been made. Even if an item will eventually have to be thrown away, delaying its final trip to landfill is great if you can find a use for it. Whatever you use it for is likely one less new item you need to buy.
Making and using plarn:
Making plarn is pretty easy: check out these tutorials by The Spruce Crafts and Liveabout to see how its done.
(Image source) [ID: three skeins of plarn made out of blue plastic bags.]
There's plenty of projects you could make with plarn:
Plarn crochet patterns
Knitted plarn grocery bag
Scrap yarn and plarn basket
Plarn patterns on Ravelry
26 plarn projects
Crochet plarn basket
Crochet plarn planter
As we're working with plastic bags, I highly recommend against using this material for clothes or for objects that will be used by small children or pets.
Reusing plastic bags:
If you're looking for other uses for plastic bags, these articles by The Spruce, One Good Thing and Natural Home Brands might give you some ideas.
You could also hand out a bunch in your community to be used as garbage bags and such. Whatever you do: the important thing will probably be to avoid them ending up in your environment if you don't reuse them.
If you can't find any good options to reuse them, contact your local recycling facilities. They'll be able to inform you about the most responsible way to dispose of them.
