What is Re_birthday even about? For the longest time I thought it was obvious, it being Allen after the pride arc when Sickle puts him in the black box and the mysterious voice is just sickle. It's about him becoming kokutan douji. But I was wrong (?) Apparently it says it's after the events of master of the heavenly yard. I don't really understand when or what the implications are.

On the same topic, I know u don't typically listen to covers of songs but have u heard adotds cover of re_birthday. I listen to it cuz I really really like the harmonies but she used the song to convey the events of Re_birthday truth and it surprisingly matches up with a lot of the lines. Some of the line distribution is so smart.

Well, it's not about him becoming Kokutan-douji, I can tell you that much.

I would say the general idea of the song is what it seems, though. Allen was put in a box to "atone" for his actions in life (or rather, the intended purpose of being given a huge centuries long history lesson), and then at the end of the world having achieved some level of enlightenment he left the box to go find Riliane. He finally reunites with her at the end of master of the heavenly yard.

Because it's such an early song in the series I don't think it's a reasonable expectation to look at it and expect it to have solid, discernible plot. Not only because as a song it is poetic rather than concrete, but because many of mothy's early ideas have changed over the years--he's said this about Re_Birthday explicitly. Certain lines are referenced in the master of the heavenly yard book and song (such as the opening of The Heroes chapter, the repeat of "I'll go to see you very soon" in the song), but you can't look at the lyrics and say "the blue manacles refer to Kyle specifically". It's not making direct plot statements, it is broad strokes for themes and emotions. This isn't true of all of mothy's songs but it is true of this one.

I don't like adotd's cover of Re_Birthday, no. I don't like how it sounds and I disagree with the interpretation of the song indicated by the line distribution.
