Basics of Kitchen and Cottage Witchcraft
Kitchen witches believe that the kitchen is a sacred place where all of the magick happens. They focus on the use of edible ingredients and kitchen tools. A cottage witch is a witch that brings magick into the house and are protectors of the hearth and home. They bring cheer and warmth to every room they enter. Their focuses are on the family, home, and daily needs. Both the cottage and Kitchen witch believe that by honoring the home it honors the Gods and Goddesses. They bring magick into everyday life and daily chores.
Ways a Kitchen and Cottage witch can bring magick into a home:
Create a kitchen altar
Stock your shelves with herbs and spices
Bring maximum feng-shui to your home
Keep the home physically and spiritually clean
Paint the house walls in colours that bring happiness, warmth, and coziness
When making a sandwich put mustard or mayo sigils on it
When making meals add herbs that correspond to your magickal needs
Decorate the home according to the sabbats
Brew some special teas
Make your own candles, salves, and tinctures.
Make offerings to Gods and Goddesses of hearth and home.
Ask your deities to keep your house safe and healthy.
Create your own recipes and add your own touch of magick to them
Put intent into everything you cook and clean
Make an incantation or short song to sing while you stir.
Inscribe your wooden spoons with sigils
Carve your wooden shelves with sigils - carve them at the bottom of the cupboard to remain discreet
Craft oils, incense, soaps, potions, and salves.
Make herbal remedies
Chant while cleaning or preparing a meal
Use numerology in their practices by the number of times they stir or the number of times they knead dough.
During the mead moon, brew mead with magickal intent.
Decorate the home with your own art or art done by your children, poems, knits, woodcraft’s, paintings, quilts, diy’s, or tapestries.
Enchant your crafts.
Use weather magick, candle magick, ribbon charms, and anything else used to add magick to your home.
Honour the ancestors.
Bless the home.
Start a garden and will it with organic and in season fruits and vegetables.
Charge herbal oils by moonlight or candlelight to heal, bless the home or to clean and protect the woodwork she polishes with it.
Scatter charm bags, witches ladders, chimes, and bells around the home.
Grow an indoor jungle
Learn herbal remedies to treat MINOR injuries
If you work with meat make sure to thank and honour the animal it came from.
Sing or play music to raise good vibrations
Bake and cut cookies in shapes to match your intentions
Provide someone in need with a free meal
Volunteer at a local soup kitchen to bring magick into it

To Buy Your Own Home...
If You are Struggling to Get a Foothold in the Market.***
You will need:
Children’s toy bricks
Twelve gold-colored coins
A blue candle
Timing:
For twelve days.
The spell:
On day 1 build a house from toy bricks, saying, “Up the ladder, stage by stage; borrow, save, or loan. I/we’ll soon buy a home of my/our own, starting life’s new page.”
Then put a coin directly in front of the toy house to start a straight pathway from the house, saying, “Money grows slowly, seems so far away, but my/our home I/we swill move toward, before too many days.”
On days 2 to 12, add a coin to the path until you have placed twelve coins, saying the same spell words each day.
On day 12, light the candle at the end of the path (next to the twelfth coin), saying, “The road is hard, yet I/we do know, through progress sometimes seems so slow, money will grow, it shall be so, and I/we will realize our dream.”
When the candle is burned, pick up the coins, moving along the money path toward the house, and buy something small for your new home.
***This spell can be altered to change it for an apartment you want as well.

Emergency cleaning: Unfuck your whole house in the shortest time possible
So, your landlord/parents/home inspector/favorite movie star is dropping by, and your place is a disaster. You don’t have much time to clean it up. You’re in emergency mode. Let’s get started.
Don’t panic. Panic leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to the dark side. You can do this, but you have to stay calm.
Unlike maintenance cleaning, we’re not looking to completely unfuck one space at a time. Instead, we want to decrease the overall mess in stages, spread evenly across the whole area that we’re concerned about. If you think your home is at Level 10 filth, we want to bring the whole thing down to a Level 9, and then down from there. One really clean spot in an otherwise messy home is not going to be helpful here.
Get prepared. You’ll want to shut the computer down (or turn the modem off if you need your computer to play music). Trust me. Get your music going. Gather up trash bags, your vacuum and mop, some rags or paper towel, sponges, and other cleaning supplies. Use what you have on hand. Don’t get distracted running to the store and spending an hour browsing cleaning supplies. A multi-purpose cleaning concentrate or a jug of vinegar will be just fine.
Breaks are very important. Depending on your time constraints, work in 20/10s (20 minutes working, 10-minute break) or 45/15s. But take breaks because otherwise you’re marathoning, and marathon cleaning is no one’s friend. Keep hydrated, don’t forget to eat, and check in with yourself frequently to make sure you’re physically doing OK.
Make your bed. This will be your home base if you get overwhelmed or need somewhere clear to take a break.
Start with the garbage. Going from room to room, throw out anything that is obvious trash. Once you fill a bag, take it out. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Move on to dishes. Gather the dishes from all over your house and bring them to the kitchen. If you can, start them soaking in a sink of hot, soapy water or start loading the dishwasher. After the dishes are all in one place, spend one 20/10 getting started getting them under control.
Now it’s time for your flat surfaces. Countertops, tables, dresser tops, etc. Clear them off and wipe them down. Don’t get distracted in too much sorting and organizing. We’re in crisis mode here. There will be time to get in-depth once this is all done. The same applies to cabinets and closets. Unless you have reason to believe people will be opening closed doors, leave these alone for now.
Attack the floordrobe and shoe pile. Get your clothes either put away or in the hamper. Start a load of laundry if you need to, but keep in mind that laundry and dishes have three steps: wash, dry, and put it away, goddammit!
Get random stuff up off the floors. If something is trash-worthy, throw it away now rather than just move it around a bunch of times. Otherwise, put stuff where it belongs.
Take another 20/10 or 45/15 to catch up on more dishes, if needed.
Head into the bathroom. Pour some cleaner in the toilet bowl, fill the sink with hot water and cleaner, and either spray the tub and shower with cleaner, or fill the tub up with some hot water and add cleaner and let it soak. Put everything away that’s out and shouldn’t be, clean the mirror, counters, and toilet seat. Sweep or dry mop the floor. Wipe down the sink and tub/shower, and give the toilet bowl a scrub. Mop the floor.
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Vacuum everything you can, and sweep everything you can’t.
Walk outside of your house (don’t lock yourself out, please). Walk back in and see what catches your eye first. Go and deal with that.
If you’re being inspected or your landlord is coming in for repairs, spend time on whatever area they’ll be focusing on.
Give the whole place one more once-over and pay attention to anything you’ve missed so far.
It’s an old trick, but if your place is a little funky-smelling, put a pan of water on the stove on low heat and add some citrus or cinnamon or vanilla. Don’t leave it unattended or forget about it.
Take a shower, put on something clean, and eat something.
You can do this. It’s overwhelming, yes, but it is not impossible. You just need to do it. You have a list. You have directions. You have a whole bunch of Internet strangers who have been there before and who are cheering you on. You can do this, but you need to get started.
Why are you still here? GO. START. NOW.
the number of times in my past that I desperately wanted/needed someone to sit me down and tell me this stuff. I will never get back the hours and hours lost to headless-chicken mode, but it’s nice to know that in the last year I’ve learned so many coping mechanisms :D

heal yourself spell
This is an immersive and powerful self-healing spell to use to combat emotional pain. I have used it for heartbreak, but you can use it for anything that hurts you. You will need:
- Pink cotton fabric and pink cord (spiritual and emotional healing)
- Spearmint (healing, love, protection)
- Willow leaf (overcoming sadness, healing)
- Cinnamon (healing, prosperity)
- Lavender (healing, tranquility)
- Lemon balm (healing, mental clarity)
- Quartz crystal (honing/amplifying the energy of the herbs)
1. Hold the quartz in your hands, close to your heart. If you’re able, let all your sadness surface. Weep into it. Squeeze it. Cry until you can’t anymore. This quartz is you; it’s absorbing your energy and taking the burden away from you.
2. Lie your fabric square on your workspace. Place the willow leaf in the center of the fabric, to act as a bed for the quartz.
3. Placing the quartz in the center, sprinkle the herbs one by one in a circle surrounding the crystal. As this quartz contains your sadness, the herbs surrounding it allow that energy to be released and cared for.
4. Lovingly fold the corners of the fabric, making sure the herbs don’t spill, and wrap it shut with the pink cord. Sleep with it under your pillow until you think you’ll manage without it; once you feel ready, sprinkle the herbs outside and cleanse the quartz under the moon.
Tarot Card of the Day. The Magician. Shed fear so that you can unleash your full potential and personal power. Turn obstacles into into productive expression. Your intentions toward making dreams come true will manifest through sheer will. You can make things happen because you are the ruler of your reality

Tips on Grimoire Organization
Please note that if you are using a hard bound notebook or journal, adding in additional pages will bulk up your book, like so: (these are the exact same journals, btw)
- Envelopes. Let’s say you’re doing a section on Tarot in your Grimoire, and you want to include a few Tarot spreads, but you don’t want to waste two or three pages. Glue an envelope onto one of your pages to make a “pocket” where you can store little cards or papers with the tarot spreads written on them.
- Pockets. Similar to the envelope idea. If you have a page, or section for example, on herbal teas, you can make a pocket out of a piece of paper to keep your current favorite tea recipes in.
- Dividers, Cover Pages and Ribbons. If you’re like me and you like to have “sections” in your grimoire, you can easily make dividers by gluing a sheet of paper in your book (to make it heavier to make the sections stand out more). You can go further by turning your divider into a cover page for that section. And if you don’t like the idea doing that, you can always glue a ribbon, or a string, to the spine of your book to act as a bookmark.
- Double pages. I always had a problem with “wasting” pages in my grimoire. For example, my page on consecrating and charging. These two concepts are very similar to me, and I didn’t want two page stating the same thing. So, what I did was write out all my information on charging on a separate sheet of paper, then glued the top of that page into my grimoire. This way I could flip up the page on charging (as if it were on a clipboard) and have my page on consecrating underneath.
- Extended pages. Similar to the one above. In my Crystal section of my Grimoire, I decided to write out a chart that let me search for crystals by intention. So I drew my chart on a long sheet of paper, then folded it over (side to side) so that it fit comfortably in my book, then I just glued one side down into the book.
- Brochures. In my Elements section, I had a ton of information I wanted to write down, but I didn’t want each element to have more than two pages. So I used a piece of computer paper and folded it into a brochure (or into thirds) and glued it into the book so that the flaps would open and give me double the space to write.
- Clear Tape. There are many times where i finished a page in my grimoire only to find out there was a section that I left out. A simply way to fix this was with clear tape. I would write my forgotten bit of into on a separate piece of paper and then use clear tape to tape one side of the paper to my page. This allows me to flip the paper back and forth without covering up anything that I had written.

🌑 2018 Black Moon 🌑
What is a Black Moon?
A Black Moon can mean one of two things. Similar to a Blue Moon, its when two new moons appear in one month. Or, it could refer to a month with one new moon and no full moons. (source x x x)
On February 15, 2018 there is a Black moon; a new moon in a month with no full moons. Since January and March both have Blue Moons, that means February is having a Black Moon, being the only month it can happen in and happening once every 20 years or so. It’s not once in a lifetime, but still special. The last one was in 1999 and the next one is predicted to be in 2037.
What does this mean?
Some witches believe that a Black Moon is an especially powerful new moon. It is common to perform banishing and binding spells or to start projects and growth. Whichever correspondences you give to a new moon, they are heightened here. (x)
Since this moon will be on the 15th, the day after Valentine’s Day, it might be a good time to send out attraction spells or perform relationship building rituals. Use the emotions that come along with Valentine’s Day to increase the potency of spells alongside the power of the moon.
New Moon Lore
Besides spells, there’s a lot of luck, good and bad, involved with new moons. Many people believe that if you see the new moon (its rim?) over your right shoulder that you’ll have good luck and can make a wish.
Here’s a spell/wish found in Folklore (1939) by W.E. Mockler for when you see the moon over your right shoulder.
New moon, true moon,
may my wish come true
before tomorrow noon.
New moon, true moon,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
have my wish come true tonight.
Mockler also lists superstitions, mostly to do with cultivating plants and crops, but also tidbits about making soap and cutting hair. He suggests making soap under the new moon to keep it better longer.
Multiple sources also mentioned cutting hair under a new moon so that it will grow back quickly. Mockler says if you cut your hair on the Friday after a new moon then you’ll never go bald and your hair will grow back thicker. Maybe not the best advice for shaving, but if you’re looking for full, thick, long hair, might not hurt to trim those ends.
Another spell for relationships, new love, or friendships:
“Looking for love? When the Moon is New, braid your hair or some kind of string while saying: I braid this knot, this knot I braid, To know the thing I know not yet, That while I sleep I plain may see. The man (woman) that my husband (wife) shall be. Not in his (her) best but worst array, Just what he (she) weareth every day. That I tomorrow may him (her) ken, From among all other men (woman).” (x)
Click x or x for more on folklore.
Personal Note:
The moon being a traditionally feminine energy, I believe that a new moon, or in this instance a Black Moon, would be a good time to commune with goddesses of darkness, be them of the afterworld or the night itself. If you work with these deities I suggest communicating with them under this moon.
What’s interesting about this event is that it’s unobservable. I think this helps with introspection and would suggest meditating in complete darkness to embrace the absence of the moon, which won’t be too difficult since it’s still winter and gets dark early. Remember, if you’re doing a ritual that requires movement or working with materials, keep the lights on.
Let me know what your plans are for the Black Moon, my ask and messages are always open!
