Anyway, when I was in college I was constantly going to marches and protests against canadian and saudi mining projects in the Santurbán páramo, one of the most important ecosystems in Colombia in terms of biodiversity, and the source of drinking water of 30+ municipalities in my state, including the city I live in. Ultimately these mining proposals lost their license due to environmental regulations.

But now that our new far-right president elect is looking to suck up to imperial core powers once again, canadian mining corporation Aris mining is interested in re-starting mining projects in Santurbán. Which, would inevitably give cyanide poisoning not only to my city's drinking water, but 30+ other municipalities and indigenous communities.

in defense of doug eiffel, he was literally on the hephaestus on remand, he was doing penal labor, he did not want to be there and any vague illusion of him having a choice in the matter was cancelled out by cutter threatening his daughter to get him to comply. in offense of doug eiffel, hera was also there as forced labor and she only fucked around maybe 30% as much.

everyone has said this but god zach valenti's delivery of the big limbo monologue is so good. it's so direct and not shy, but also not morose or even really sad. very unflinching, you just sit there like "well. fuck, I guess." it gives me the feeling that eiffel has tried different ways of narrativizing this in his head and he's consciously stripped it to these bare bones.

Today's wasp of the day is Greene's Giant Ichneumonid Wasp (Megarhyssa greenei)!

This long long girl's life mission is to seek and destroy the wood devouring sawfly known as the pigeon horntail/pigeon tremex (Tremex columba). What did the humble tremex do to deserve such a fate? Well for starters, it exists— and the way of the wasp is that pretty much any and every insect gets to have its own personalized wasp grim reaper (sometimes multiple). Second reason would be that while T. columba does the important job of breaking down dead wood, they sometimes miss the mark and can pose a threat to previously healthy living trees. M. greenei is here to restore balance by keeping the T. columba population down.
