Day 8 : Teeth
My Lord and General
The Boogeyman
The boogeyman is a creature that shows up in almost every culture. They are what kids are threatened with if they aren’t good or follow the rules. However in some cultures boogeymen can hurt anyone. Sometimes the boogeyman scares you, other times it rips you limb from limb (not cool).
Origins
( This does in no way include the origin from every culture, just some beliefs).
A priest would kill children in his town and once the parents figured out who killed their children, they brutally killed him. After he died his spirit goes around tormenting misbehaving kids.
If you have an imaginary friend as a child and then forget about them, they turn into a boogeyman that ruins your life for forgetting them
Word origins of boogey are connected to a word meaning “something frightening” but also has connections to words meaning goblin, beatle, bud, scarecrow, bear, and demon.
Appearance
Being a wide ranging type of creature, its looks varies depending on the location, mostly the creature looking as a scary animal in the location or a demon.
Claws, talons, & sharp teeth are common features on boogeymen
Boogeymen more closely tied to demons or the devil commonly have horns and hooves
There are actually boogeymen that are on a better side that don’t have the terrifying features, like good old saint nick is a good boogeyman.
Types
There are three main types of boogeymen, with the third one being something you probably won’t regularly call a boogeyman
The punisher of misbehavers: These ones usually scare young children, leave bad presents, annoy them, give small punishments, or prank misbehavers. Sometimes they can get violent for you doing wrong, but they will never just drag you to the underworld for the fun of it like a violent boogeyman will.
The violent ones: Violent Boogeymen is what is commonly what is thought of when people imagine boogeymen. These are the creatures stalking in the dark for usually kids doing wrong, but do-gooders can get caught by these fellows too. This creature lurks in the shadow waiting to get you when you’re not careful.
The protector of good: Do exist to make sure kids don’t do bad things, usually only give something not that wanted if you are bad instead of murdering you.
Boogeyman Around The World
Krampus: I actually grew up hearing about krampus and being absolutely terrified. I’m not going to show you a photo of him, but if you want to have nightmares you can look it up. Krampus comes out around Christmas, being an anti-santa. If you are a bad child he will drown you, eat you, or drag you to hell. In certain areas he’ll give out coal and bundles of twigs to hit children with. He has a sack that he puts the kids in.
More Examples Include: Santa Claus (a protector of good), the babadook, Madar-i-Ar, Tata Duende, Babaroga, ابو رجل مسلوخة, Golden arm, Bokkenrijders, Butzemann, Baba Yaga, H’awouahoua, Tokoloshe, and many many more.
Many horror characters are inspired by the boogeyman, including Slenderman, IT, Freddy Kruger, Michael Myers, and John Wick.

But I am still going to headcanon it as Pitch Black training his Nightmares.
My thoughts on Pitch Black: A character Analysis
This is based of the Movie, I have unfortunately been unable to read the books so forgive me.
My thoughts on Pitch Black, the boogie man, is that he’s an amazing villain. He’s slick, suave, and downright dastardly too the core. I love his design and how everything but his eyes are monochrome with his name. As a villain is one of my favorites. But I don’t ship him with anyone, not canon Pitch at least. Fandom Pitch is misunderstood and moody and the fan art is killer!
But canon Pitch Black, he’s wicked in all the right ways and ready to slit the throat of anyone who gets in his way. Canon Pitch is written beautifully with the story, he knows what he wants and he’ll murder to get it. That’s how he is, and that’s how he fights. Because of this I don’t ship Canon Pitch Black with any of the Guardians.
Do I respect Black Ice and Black Sand shippers? Of course, the art is stunning, the fiction on point. Shipping is anyone’s choice but I choose not to ship Pitch with anyone because he wants power, to be Believed in by children who will fear him!
Pitch is that bad bitch who will get what he wants by any means. And that’s how I choose to view him and his actions.
