Ringing in the New Year || Gigi & Nick

As the door opened, Nick was both shocked and relieved. Shocked that Gigi didn’t have any other plans tonight, and relieved that she didn’t, as a part of him really did want to see her. After the door opened, Nick prepared himself for a harsh response from his step-sister, expecting her to use her quick wit to cut him down, but he was surprised by her calm, almost kind response. “That’s gre —-” he started, but was soon cut off by the girl slamming the door shut in his face. For a moment, Nick stood there in shock, not really sure how he was supposed to react. But the brunette couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips, though it was an odd greeting, it didn’t surprise him. It was the kind of greeting he expected from his step-sister.

When she opened the door again, he smirked slightly to himself as he saw her appearance had altered slightly. “While I’m flattered, Gi, it’s just me you’ll be hanging out with tonight. No need to try to impress me,” he told her with a smirk, raising an eyebrow at the girl’s changed appearance. He couldn’t help but to enjoy teasing her, it was fun to see her flustered. At her question, he smiled and chuckled, “Do you always have to have a plan, Gi? Isn’t life more fun when there isn’t one?”

Of course the boy had a plan for the night, or at least, the majority of one. It was still a fairly rough plan that involved champagne, a party at some club in town, and getting very, very drunk. But he enjoyed teasing the brunette too much to assure her of his plan. So instead of calming the girl down and offering her the comfort of a plan, he started walking to his car, turning to look behind him to check that she was following. “C’mon, Gi. Don’t you trust me?” He asked her the question with his usual cheeky smile, already feeling better by being around the girl. He wasn’t sure why, but his step-sister had a way of making him feel more light-hearted and at ease, though he’d never let her know that.

‘That’s the person who is going to ruin my life’ she had thought the first time Nick had been introduced to her, but that same day she had felt somehow attracted to him. She had tried so hard to push it down but the more she got to know him, the harder it became. Even when he was a farmer boy and an annoying step-brother, most of the time he wasn’t that bad. She couldn’t just pretend like he hadn’t been there for her when nobody else had. Possibly the best option was to start avoiding him until she could come to her senses and decide she did not like him anymore.

“You never know. What if I bump into someone I actually care about?” She said bitterly, but she liked that he had noticed the slight change. It was hard to believe she would be spending New Year‘s eve with Nick. She had expected to have to be around him for family things, but only because she had to and this time it was different. She wanted to. “Yes” She answered matter of factly. Of course she needed a plan. Maybe she shouldn’t have accepted, but it wasn’t like she could just say ‘never mind’ and leave. Could she? Maybe if she truly wanted to, she could. It wasn’t that big of a deal, it wasn’t the first time they had done something together. What was the worst that could happen? If anything, she could just ditch him once they got to wherever they were going.

She was too lost on her thoughts until his voice snapped her out of them and she noticed he had already started walking. Gigi didn’t answer his question and rolled her eyes before following him.

“So what’s the plan?” She asked again, looking up at him once they were outside his car. “When there’s a plan I can get the idea of how well or badly the day can go” She explained. “When there’s no plan, I’ve got nothing, so I’ll just expect the worst”
