I'm 12 minutes into Paranormal Home Inspectors and I'm already obsessed. It's very much set up like any other ghost hunting show except the one guy who's an actual home inspector and explains everything with like "well you have a cat" and "there's raccoons in the attic" and "the door isn't hung well". AND THE KICKER is they don't even have him at the end. They've followed him with a psychic who's "talking" to ghosts!

The assistant quits part-way through the first episode, and it's framed as "the ghosts drove her away." And in my heart I know it was a disagreement over how much acting to do about things they were hearing in their overnight investigation.

Home Inspector: "yeah 'cause there's literally no heat exchange down here. And no insulation in your old-ass walls. And it's winter in Canada."

Psychic: "no there's definitely a bunch of dark spirits in here and it's dropping the temperature."

Owner: "i just feel like the psychic is more correct"

SORRY I'm obsessed with a show that wants to convince you there's ghosts by doing an overnight with a bunch of motion detectors set up AND THEN the fucking cats just walk into the clip where they're freaking out about it. Like bestie please 😂😂😂 Do you think it might be the cats???? Setting them off????

Okay ep 8 is actually really rough, because their young adult daughter OD'd but the parents think it was murder and it's not clear if they want to go on the show in the hope of getting more reach and maybe someone who knows what happened that night sees it and comes forward or if they genuinely believe she's haunting the house, but I feel some kind of way about "psychics" in situations like this with actively grieving families.

I truly cannot overstate how much this show is obsessed with using motion detectors in homes with cats and they make no effort to hide the existence of the cats. Like I really feel like I'm doing theatre-level shared suspended disbelief. I know they're faking the overnight investigations. They know I know they're faking them. But we're all having an entertaining time.
