Your small progress matters more than you know. - Morgan Harper Nichols
— Franz Kafka, Letters to Felice
in another universe, my childhood memories are sweets and cotton candy; i won’t be so good at running away; i can face the world bare and brave. in another universe, i wouldn’t have bloomed in all the wrong ways.Â
i made mistakes. i sat with them. i hated them and hated me. i sat with them. i sat with myself. i started to forgive myself, because i reassured myself, “you won’t do this again. you never wanted to the first time. you will learn from this.” i sat with myself some more. “you are not unforgivable.”
There's out there a place for you. A place to be yourself, a place where you belong. A place where you'll feel wanted, where you are welcome. A place that will make you feel safe, at home.
And I know you'll find it soon.
i promise you are worthy of your own love
Anne Sexton, from Complete Poems of Anne Sexton; “December 18th,”
Hey, it's okay to grieve for the person you were, the person you could be right now. It's okay to be angry for all the things that were taken away from you. The things that you're still healing from. It's okay.
Maybe recovering doesn’t necessarily mean you come back to who you were, but you become someone new. Maybe you find a new sense of self. Maybe you like this version better. Maybe you feel like you improved as a person, in a new direction that you didn’t expect to go. Healing comes in different ways, but I hope it works out for you, and that you feel comfortable in your own skin and that you can cope better with any challenges that may come.

“I am homesick for a place I am not sure even exists. One where my heart is full. My body loved. And my soul understood.”
