Teeth
Satya was sitting in her living room, her youngest daughter, Rajni sitting in her lap, reading a book out loud to her and her eldest daughter, Eva was playing with some odds and ends that Jamie had given her on the floor (after she had approved of the pieces, of course). Jamie had taken Aarush to a nearby Junkyard to get pieces for their little father-son project (a surprise for her, apparently.) and they were due to return home any minute.
She heard their door unlock and open, âWEâRE HOME!â Jamie cried into the house with a cackle.
âDaâ! Aarush!â Her little girls cried as they put down what they were doing and rushed over to the front door to hug tackle their father and brother.Â
But they were ready for them, Jamie was on his knees, Aarush by his chest and both of their arms were out and ready for hugs. Rajni and Eva leapt in, their fatherâs flesh arm quickly pulling them in while he pushed them off of the floor with his metal one to greet his lovely bride with a peck on the forehead.
ââN how were me girls today?â He asked her, beaming as he slipped her into the family embrace, âPerfect as always?â
âOf course.â She purred proudly as she snuggled her babies, âAnd how did you two fair?â
âWe got some good ones, Iâll tell ya thaâ! But thaâ wasnâ thâ highloight, though!â He said cheerfully.
âOh?â She asked as he released them from the hug and picked Aarush up for all to see.
âReady?â he asked him. Aarush nodded eagerly. âOn the count of three, alroight?â Jamie said, looking to his daughers, âYou two can help with the count down.â The little girls beamed at this and smlied broadly as he started with, âOne!â
âTwo!â Eva cried.
âThree!â Rajni squealed.
Aarush opened his mouth and revealed the hole where he had lost a tooth a week and a half ago and the bit of white poking out from his gums, âMah new toofh is cominâ in!â he announced proudly.
âReally?â Eva said, amazed.
âI canât see!â Ranji pouted. Jamie chuckled as he knelt down to bring Aarush closer to his sisters, who looked at the new tooth in awe, âDoes it hurt?â Rajni asked. Eva looked worried at the suggestion, but Aarush shook his head.
âNope!â he said, pleased with himself. His sisters and mother were pleased with that as his father brought him back up for his mother to get a better look, âIt seems to be coming in nicely, but Iâd like to schedule a dentist appointment to be sure.â
âOh, come on, love.â Jamie said dismissively as he put Aarush down with his sisters, âHeâs far too much loike you ta get my teeth.â He then gave her a large toothy grin, revealing his pearly white (except for a few golden ones), but jagged, teeth.
âDaâs got shark teeth!â Eva teased.
âOh do I?â he purred playfully before holding out his arms and began chomping his teeth like a shark seemingly would, their children squealed with delight at the thought of a fun chase with their father as they fled into the house, Jamie not too far behind them. Loudly singing made up lyrics to the Jaws theme song as they laughed and cried out playful, âNoo!âs when he caught them and pretended to eat them like a shark would.
Satya shook her head as she made the appointment anyways, secretly hoping that her son at least got the pearly white part of his fatherâs smile.
When the dentist had told her that, yes, the tooth was pearly white as all hell, but he also told them that Aarushâs new tooth was far sharper than it would be normally. Satya asked about the other teeth, worried for her son in case the teeth would cause him pain.
âThey seem to be quite large, sharper than usual too. But they do need to pierce through the gums first, so time should wear them down to normal, but I thought you should know just in case he experiences any pain while these new teeth come in.â The dentist said, âIf that happens, Iâd like for you to bring him back so I can see how we can either help the teeth come out easier or at least dull the pain for him.â
âThank you, weâll inform you if that happens.â Satya said, her stomach twisting with concern as she left his office. She walked into the waiting room where Jamie was making their boy (as well as several other families in the waiting room) laugh with goofy faces and jokes.
âSo?â he asked after they had paid and were on their way out.
âYou were right, the tooth is coming in fine, but they told me to bring him in if any places where new teeth come in hurt.â she said, waving it off as if it wasnât a big deal as they walked to their car.
âWhy would they say thaâ?â he asked, confused.
âHe said that he tells all parents this, since itâs better to be safe than sorry.â She fibbed. Jamie pondered this before accepting with a shrug and a nod of understanding before he got to work opening the side door and getting Aarush strapped into his car seat.Â
Mako and Molly sat in their kitchen, Satya looking at them, concern written all over her face.
âAlroight, let me get this straight âere.â Molly said, âYer worried âbout Aarush havinâ some Junker teeth?â
âJunker teeth?â she repeated.
âYeah.â Mako replied, moving his mask and showing her his own large, sharper than normal teeth, âThe radiation didnât jusâ mess with our DNA, but our diets. Mine are pretty average in Junkertown, but theyâre still pretty sharp compared ta thâ others âere. âN kids exposed ta thâ radiation in Oz after the omnium blew all had sharper teeth than ones from the coast, probâly cause they had ta eat more meat due ta thâ plants ya could eat becominâ scarce âcause of thâ radiation. Rat grew up in thaâ stuff, so itâs possible thaâ it could be passed down, but,â he motioned to Molly, âMolly âere has Junker blood, but she wasnât born in thâ Outback ân look at âer teeth.â
Molly opened wide, revealing that her front teeth were larger than most, her cuspids in particular were far longer and sharper than normal, if they were any longer, sheâd think that the girl was wearing fake vampire teeth or something (making her wonder why the hell sheâd never noticed how large they were before) but the tips had been worn down over time, looking almost as if she had sanded them down.
âThâ bac âre big too, but thaâs it, stuthâ she informed them with her mouth still open before closing her mouth, ââN it hasnât really messed with how I eat or nothinâ so I donâ see thâ big deal âbout it. I mean, we all loike Ratâs smile⊠Especially you.â Satya felt her cheek burn at the comment, âSo, if Aarush happens ta get it, good on âim. âEâll have a charming smile ân good looks. Worse thaâll probâly happen is you, Eva ân Rajni will be beatinâ sheilas away with flyinâ hard loight shields.âÂ
Satya chuckled at that as Mako spoke up, âThere ainâ no reason ta worry âbout it unless Aarush says âis mouth is hurtinâ. I donâ see a reason ta get worked up when ya donâ know how itâll turn out.â
âYou two are right, thank you for talking with me about all this, I was unsure about how Jamie might take the news.â She said, relieved.
âHeâd probably be happy âbout it.â Mako said flatly.
âShoutinâ it to thâ rooftops.â Molly agreed with smirk.
Satya laughed again and thanked them once more for their time before getting up to leave with a wave.
Ten years later, Aarush Fawkes was waiting on a street corner for his ride back to the Gibraltar base, a plastic bag filled with a few missing supplies for a cake he and his sisters planned to make for their parentsâ wedding anniversary in his hand.
âI hope I havenât forgotten anything, Molly was nice enough to give me a ride here and back and Iâd rather not ask her to have to bring me back here again later just because I forgot somethingâŠâ He thought. He pulled his phone from his back pocket and quickly texted his sisters for a short list of what they needed, just to be sure when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
He turned to see a random person looking at him with a partly curious but mostly judgmental look, âYes?â he said, despite feeling a bit annoyed at the look he was being given, âCan I help you?â
âYouâre that skinny Junker guyâs son, right?â the man asked.
âJunkrat is my father, why do you ask?â He said.
ââCause you look nothing like him.â The man said accusingly.
Aarush managed to be mature enough to not let out a sigh or tell him that did not mean that he was not his son, but knew better than to fight people on this and instead did what normally shut them up.Â
He gave the man the biggest, toothiest grin he could manage, revealing the large, sharp glisteningly white teeth he inherited from his father.
âHoly shit..â the man said as he staggered backwards.
âTheyâre pearly whoite as all hell, ainâ they?â Molly teased with a laugh from behind the man, making him jump, see the armed woman in the motorcycle and flee.Â
Aarush closed his mouth and gave her a flat look, âThat last comment was not necessary.â he said, unamused.
âNah, but it made âim scamper.â She pointed out before patting the side car, âCome on, me Daâ says thaâ theyâll be back soon, so we better leg it if you wanna have thaâ cake done in toime.â he scowled at her, but got in anyway, a bit upset at the reaction to his teeth. It was because of people like that he hardly opened his mouth when he smiled.
âOi, Aarush, donâ let blokes loike thaâ get ta ya,â Molly said, most likely reading his thoughts, âTheyâre jusâ jealous thaâ their smiles donâ have any charm. Thaâ bloke in particular was probâly jealous of those pearly whoites you got. I mean, did you see his teeth?â She made a gagging sound before telling him that, âIt was loike lookinâ inta a bowl of piss! Teeth shouldnâ be thaâ yellow!âÂ
Aarush started to laugh as she continued to mock the rude manâs teeth, his laugh not much different from his fatherâs as they made theyâre way back home.
Aarush is @bowlersandtophats
Eva is @raedoodles
Rajni is @the-inline-rex
Molly is mine.
This is kinda based off of a comic bowlersandtophats did a while back about Aarushâs teeth. I love that comic far too much, but I wanted to know how Satya reacted when she first wondered if her son would inherit his dadâs chompers.Â
So I made this. :P
@bowlersandtophats if you think sheâd have a different reaction to learning how her son would have pearly white shark teeth, PLEASE TELL US, IâM DYING TO KNOW!!!!
