PSA: Don’t Forget USPS Will Increase Pricing Jan 17th

This can be kind of confusing if you have been printing labels without really looking at them so I’m going to break it down in simple terms. I’m going to specifically be talking about Etsy because I print most of my labels through them.

Etsy uses Commercial Base Pricing for domestic (US) orders. For first class (the majority of what I ship personally) It will increase 7.6%, about $0.13 on average. On the bright side, first class packages can now be shipped up to 15.99 oz, but this has already been the case when printing through Etsy. 

For priority, it will go up about 2.4% for zones 1-8 for an average of $1.01 more per package. Zone 1-8 essentially means the entire continental US. The only other zone is 9 which is Guam. Flat rate priority will also go up with an average of $0.40 to $0.85 increase per package. The WORST news for the average seller is that international rates will be going up. A lot!

First class international will see an increase of 21.6%. Priority will see an increase of 10.2%. This is especially hard hitting for those who ship items under 1lb or over 4 lbs. Here are the average price increases for First Class:

– Up to 1 lb. – Average Increase of $5.17 – Up to 2 lbs. – Average Increase of ($1.77) – Up to 3 lbs. – Average Increase of $1.63 – Up to 4 lbs. – Average Increase of $11.58

This covers the shipping options most likely to be used, but if yours isn’t there, you can look it up. Stamps.com has a pretty good blog article on it.

Don’t forget to adjust your shipping rates, especially if you have an item with a processing time that would be scheduled to ship after the rate increase. They should be adjusted immediately to avoid paying out of pocket for shipping later.
