for you to put it in gear and drive straight out of the city. maybe we’re too polite. 

before, we were hungry. we never settled for more than light. i felt my stomach burn from a delirious oversight. 

a friend is more than this; he has thoughts to reminisce anything i feel at all. i push my heartache to the side, let it slip into the night--what’s left of this. 

so pour me another, and let me feel it go down. a mindful realization didn’t occur in time.
