Opinion of Dr Martinez?

i have complicated feelings on her.

i think the idea of max accidently meeting her birth mother by chance was unrealistic, if kind of neat. it makes me happy that max was like "if i had a mom, i'd want her to be just like Dr. Martinez 🥺" and then she got that.

but it's frustrating that even after max found out that dr m donated her egg to be experimented on, she still loved her unconditionally. i understand that jp doesnt understand how complicated relationships work, but i think anyone would be pissed about that, you know? i do think its pretty unfair of her to hate jeb for the longest time (sidenote: she should have still hated him even after she found out he was her dad) for working for the school, but was totally fine that dr m worked for itex. and i cant believe maximum "i never trust anyone" ride was never suspicious about dr m or her motives after finding out.

also like,,,it's so weird that dr m just. moved on and had another kid after effectively abandoning her first kid to be experimented on for the rest of her life.

idk i have lots and lots of thoughts about how the whole thing with her was done. i wish that more of the flock noticed how hard max was wearing her rose tinted glasses around the people she loves. she holds such hard grudges against everyone, unless it's someone she cares about, which means they get an automatic free pass, no matter what they've done

YEAH and i also think dr. m got a get out of jail free card with her shady itex past bc 1. we don't ever see her (willingly) engage in shady science stuff on page, and 2. max wanted a mom, and dr. m is all sweet and maternal so of course she's ok and can do no wrong! she's a mother and somehow that makes her incapable of evil.

also max praised her for the bare fucking minimum lmao. not that max has a frame of reference for good parenting (in fact, dr. m IS her frame of reference), but the scene that comes to mind is in book… 7, i think? when dr. gunther fucker whatever was like "max needs to get married to dylan and have babies" and dr. m intervened and max was like "ayy go mom!!" even tho ANY reasonable PERSON, doesn't even have to be a parent, would say no to child marriage.

the "max's parents" situation was one whole big mess imo
