Fire Giants – “Fire Giant” is the common name used for Nethercats for adventurers who’ve seen this beast (and lived to tell about it). Nethercats are fire proof creatures like Ghasts; they are able to sit in shallow pools of lava or on top of flaming Netherrack. They’re also almost as large as Ghasts, males sometimes being big enough to take one down on their own. They’ve been known to consume flammable items as well, like eating fallen Ghast fireballs, hunting and eating Blaze’s, or drinking lava. For some reason they don’t emit fire though.
Conceal and Carry – Nethercats seem like big, peaceful creatures from afar. They have the most cat like nature of all Mud cats, napping whenever they can. Up close and personal though, they unveil their array of defense. Long, dagger-like claws that could easily cut a man in half with one hit, sharp teeth capable of breaking diamond tools, and whip-like tails that have been known to knock out columns and pillars of netherbrick and netherrack.
Inside – Nethercats are infamous for being found sleeping or nesting in Fortresses alongside the other mobs. They often roost under the bridges or within the pillars if they choose to take over a Fortress and make it into a home.
Outside – Nethercats also roost outdoors, most often making their homes in the endless roofs of netherrack. Their homes are easy enough to spot, appearing as random caves and tunnels in the landscape that are attached to the roof, and they’re bold enough to hang in plain sight from the ceiling like bats.
We Are Family - Nethercats are very loving creatures. To each other, not to anything else. Their flocks are massive in size, but widespread over the whole entire Nether. They rarely ever get into fights together except over leadership and mating, and even Nethercats from different flocks get along well.
I’m the Leader! – Nethercats are patriarchal, meaning for these big kitty cats only one male will look over his flock at a time. Younger males can challenge his position but it’s more common and also safer to just wait for him to die and have the strongest male take over after that. Males duke it out first by a show of their wings. They stretch them out to appear bigger, and normally the easily intimidated back off quickly. After that they use the spikes on their jaws and their claws and tails to beat out the weaker opponents. The final one standing wins!
Hard-To-Get – Y’know like that game the humans play sometimes. Female Nethercats are truly beautiful and magnificent creatures, even when they’re trying to kill you or taking down a full grown Ghast. They typically have brighter, bolder, more pronounced markings on their bodies and wings compared to their male counter parts. Males have to court them by giving them love bites and essentially trying to overpower them and force them to submit. Stronger males will head straight into a cluster of breeding females. They start out by attempting the mount, and if they’re immediately rejected the male will ‘fight’ with his chosen female until she gives up or until he loses. The final part of the battle is locking their jaws. Males have tusks that come down, while females have tusks jutting up. Sometimes their broken off and yes it does hurt but they grow back remarkably fast.
Mothership – Nethercats become extremely protective once impregnated. Very unlike their collective and happy nature, the females expecting cubs will close themselves off away from the flock until the cubs are ready to be born. They return and roost deep, deep underground to give birth and raise their offspring.
Get off my lawn - Get out of the Nether. Nethercats have amazing eyesight and unlike other mobs, aren’t so easy to avoid. They are extremely territorial and hostile to intruders and non-neutral mobs (aka you, the human) and won’t hesitate to attack if they see you. The only real way to avoid them is to be a fast runner, go around, dig under them, or sneak past when they’re asleep.
Nethercat Proofing – There are few things that are able to stop a Nethercat in its tracks, but one of those things is obsidian. It’s hard to enough to dig through with diamond, and impossible to break through otherwise; even for a Nethercat. The next one up is small spaces! Nethercats like to dig and roost in tunnels and caves sometimes, but if prey escapes into a small crevice or hole in the ground, they won’t bother to dig after it. In the event that you are being pursued by a Nethercat, it’s always safest to find a small hidey hole until it gets bored and leaves.
Top o’ the Food Chain – Not even Herobrine can compare to these beasts. The only one creature higher than them is the Ender Dragon. Nethercats are massive and deadly forces of the supernatural all on their own. They are not hunted by any creature, and roam as they please without fear in the Nether.
How Do I Kill It – I know it seems impossible to kill these things, but if the Dragon can be killed so can they. Long range attacks with a heavily, heavily enchanted bow are one way, so long as it doesn’t get close to you, or poison, or melee if you’re badass enough to do that.
I Hate Everyone – Nethercats don’t take any crap. They’re neutral to other mobs (most of the time) but one getting too close is sure to become a quick snack. Females are much worse, especially when they’re injured or raising a litter of cubs. They’ll chase off anything within a 30 block radius
