Splake are a hybrid of the Brook and Lake Trout that are technically capable of reproduction, though it does not occur often. They are most commonly made from the crossing of a male Brook Trout and female Lake Trout, and have an incredibly fascinating history from the 1960s-1980s that you should read more about.

The brown trout is the most widespread species of trout, known as one of the world's most invasive species due to its popularity as game species. They are incredibly adaptable and have three distinct subspecies, but the general appearance remains the same across all three. They have large mouths, teeth in a zig zag pattern and range in colouration from silver to dark brown.

The Brook Trout is a common species of trout with two distinct subspecies, one of which has a notibly longer lifespan than the other. It is native to Canada and eastern north america, and is distinguished by the unique shade of green on its body and the polka dots scattered across it.

The Ohrid Trout is native to the Ohrid lake, which is located in the southwestern border between North Macedonia and Albania. It is commonly recognised as a subspecies of Brown Trout, and is easiest to differentiate from other subspecies by the location the fish was caught in.

The silver trout was native to New Hampshire before being declared extinct in 1939 when a biological survey of the waters found none remaining. Remaining descriptions say it was about a foot long with a green top and silver underside, although males also had red on their underbellies. These trout also had far more prominent size based sexual dimorphism than other trout, with the female trout being far smaller than the males.

The Aurora Trout is perhaps one of the most easily distinguished species of trout, set apart by its unique red underbelly and otherwise green scales. It's a subspecies of Brook Trout native to two lakes in Canada, and was recognised as a separate species in 1923 after being caught by four american anglers.

The Bull Trout is native to the north-western section of North america, but tragically is listed as vulnerable to extinction. The species was once considered the same as the Dolly Varden Trout, but were classified as a separate species in 1980. The name comes from the unusually large head and mouth of the species, and can be distinguished from Brook and Lake Trout by the lack of spots on the dorsal fin and the non-deeply forked tail fin.

The tiger trout is a sterile hybrid of Brown and Brook trout with a distinct pattern of markings that bear suspiciously little resemblance to actual tiger markings. They are a rather rare anomaly in the wild but are bred by some specialised facilities, sometimes used to keep down the numbers of overgrown fish populations due to their carnivorous diet.

The Rio Grande Cut-throat Trout is the state fish of New Mexico, native to the western region of the United States and one of nine subspecies of Rocky Mountain Cuthroat Trout. They were most likely the first trout found by European explorer's in 1541, and come in various different skins. They have rosy pink to plain olive flanks, unevenly shaped dots located mainly above the tail region, and often feature warm colours such as orange, red and pink on the gills and throat.

The golden trout is native to California and, shockingly enough, found most commonly in the Golden Trout river. Since 1947 it has been known as the freshwater fish of California, and is easily distinguished from other species of trout by the red underbelly, golden sides and significantly darker top.

The rainbow trout is a popular species of fish native to the freshwater tributaries of North America and Asia. It is recognisable by the distinct pink stripe running down its side and the current scientific term for the species as a whole, not including branched off species, is Oncorhynchus Mykiss.
