Why hello there! It seems I am needed on more than just the cameras. I am... unsure why I have been given access to a phone, but so mote it be.
You may call me Hierax, and I'm quite pleased to make your acquaintance.
Warning: This blog will contain JCC-typical topics such as violence, death, gambling, alcohol, etc, alongside spoilers for the 1st chapter of the game. Hierax's lore in particular will contain torture, exorsexism, and queerphobia. (Not exactly sure if there will end up being further topics to be added here, but individual posts will be labeled when necessary)
This post may be edited to add more if deemed necessary.

Character Notes:
Hierax uses it/they along with mirrored pronouns
It's in its late 20s & is roughly 5' 7". weird inconvenient middle height ass
Their biggest crime is serial murders, having been previously known under the moniker of "The Ostriched Killer" due to them leaving feathers around of varying species of birds. However, they did do more than just murdering, of course.
(Ostrich was chosen due to most of their bodies having wounds that mimic an ostrich's talons despite the fact that most of the feathers left behind were of falcons)
It did a lot of jobs of all kinds over the years, but is most well known for its fortune telling and falconry shows within a traveling Renaissance Fair. It was also one of its favorite jobs it has done
Hierax would've gone with Vega's group, having been recruited for their vast amounts of knowledge and expertise. However, it would often leave while on investigation, doing its own thing as well
On that note, I think they could've been Vega's partner? It managed to convince Vega to trust them despite their reputation and work alongside her.
If it wasn't too obvious, Hierax is loosely themed on the Wheel of Fortune major arcana, among other things :)
Seems that's all for now... but feel free to ask them for more
Its Ref
Their Artfight Page
Curious? Here's some topics you could ask about...
Their family (although they did make up some strange story about Fate)
Any parts of its past (Seems to have been a falconer at some point in time, among other things...)
Their crimes?(they elaborated a little bit about being a serial killer, but was lots of elaborate bullshit. they did mention 'co-workers', though)
Why did it join B&F anyway?

"Hello Lady Bree! I've been wonderful, thank you for asking, and I hope you have been as well. Especially with your Lady Mechanic."
*They wink with their visible eye for once, smiling, then put a finger to their lips as if to keep a secret.*
"May the Lovers be ever in your favor, Lady Bree."
*After its brief well wish, they straighten their posture once more, hoping to not overwhelm her all that much.*
"Anything interesting? Well, I've mostly been having some conversations, really, nothing as crazy as what some of the others have been up to. Quite the blessing, really.
"I met up with Lord Painter again, was part of his and our Paranoid Liege's investigation for a time. I also, earlier, learned quite a bit about cars from your Lady Mechanic, actually! I did not know there was, well, so much about them. Not that I've really driven one myself, either, so I suppose there's quite a few things I don't know.
"Ah, and Lady Sweet-Tooth! Quite the lovely girl, a bit on the nervous side, but we had quite the... sweet conversation, I guess I could say!
"It is just so... strange to see so many young squires. I'm not sure if strange would be the best word for it, but I can't imagine some of them are even proper adults. A rather dreadful sight considering what we're all here for... for multiple reasons."
"E-E-EXCUSEZ-MOI?! W-What do you mean by t-that? We are NOT t-that close, we are just f-friends, hahahahaha..."
She tries to laugh, but just sighs heavily.
"...Is it t-that obvious? Or ssssomeone told you?"
As the conversation continued, speaking about young contestants, Bree slightly tensed up.
"...There is too much children at t-this place. There are supposed to be adults, not freaking minors?... P-Production team probably hit their head or something when they let children be at this place!"
"It isn't glaringly obvious, no. And it's just between you and me. I don't need a second opinion to know that you, at the very least, enjoy Lady Mechanic's presence."
*Hierax smiles warmly, a glimmer of amusement in its eyes from Bree's initial reaction. But it falters slightly as she continued.*
"I am still not... fully acquainted with how Modos exactly works legally, but surely this violates some sort of moral jury. At least, in my home town, it would've. Even if some of them are nearly 18, I don't see how they classify as adults."
"It-t's unethical to even let minors be here... T-They should study at schools and spend their time with their friends, not f-fighting for their lives on some death show! It breaks my heart to even see them here... Poor children..."
Small tears appears in her eyes, but she quickly rubs them away.
"It's not everyday someone can speak to a serial killer." Caspian leans across a table, an arched eyebrow on the painter's features, following an intrigued smile. He and Hierax pair were in the same group - that being with Corbyn, Poppy, and Vega. It was fair to at least make some sort of acquaintance with the other contestant. At least, in Caspian's eyes.
"Hope you don't mind me taking up some space. I'm just awfully fascinated." There's a lighthearted purr in Caspian's voice as he pulls over a chair with his leg, then sits down in front of Hierax. It's then when he slides a drink over to it.
"I gotta ask. Did you work with anyone?" What a sudden question; he really wasn't hesitating, was he? It was then when he clears his throat, and clarifies. "Not like I'm doubting your ability to work alone. But, I've heard you mention coworkers in passing."
( @mischeviouspainter )
"Ah, Lord Painter! Lovely to see you again."
*Hierax tips its head in a small bow, sitting at the table with an admittedly more straight posture than their fellow contestant. Their simple smile twitched ever so slightly at the mention of being a serial killer, but steeled it just as quickly. Not the words Hierax would like to be called, but so mote it be.*
"You aren't taking up any space, don't worry. You are quite the pleasant company to keep! And thank you for the drink."
*It wasn't often Hierax got many questions about their... well, they would call it a hobby, although most others definitely would not. First that anon, and now Caspian. But why not indulge the man? After all, Hierax was more than willing to share.*
"For most of my little hobby, I worked alone. Not that I didn't want to work with anyone, I like working alongside others, but it's not that easy to recruit anyone to a cause such as my own. Especially with people who... simply just don't understand where I'm coming from."
*It takes a sip from its drink, mostly out of politeness before setting it down and to the side. Alcohol never sat right on its tongue, no matter the drink they tried. Perhaps a blessing - or a curse - from Temperance itself.*
"I didn't realize you'd heard of my, ah, co-workers. Not that I mind the question, of course. They started working with me near the end of my journey, and would unfortunately lead to my arrest. One slip up, and suddenly, it was as if they understood everything about me and my intentions. And I couldn't have my endeavors ending so soon.
"They were less like co-workers, more like assistants, really. I made sure neither of them would call the police, and they would typically help with disposals and such. Should've just killed them, really, like the rest of them, but you know how hindsight is."
*They shrug, sighing a little bit. There were many things Hierax would've done differently, but the time would've passed regardless, and someone was going to find out at some point. There wasn't much point in ruminating about it any longer than necessary.*
The way Hierax so simply spoke about their aforementioned “hobby” so simply had the painter captivated hook, line, and sinker. To have it laid out so openly before him was new and strange. Not in a horrible way (even if serial murder wasn’t the best thing to do). But, they were both nothing but confined captives in this “game”. Caspian supposed it made sense for them to be so forward.
“You didn’t have any suspicions on who’d snitch on you so… carelessly?” The painter was trying to find the right words to describe what occurred. Mind him; his own murder was more so out of self-defence and adrenaline rather than long-winding. Maybe he didn’t have the right vocabulary. “Hindsight is a pain. I understand that far too well.” Caspian agreed with Hierax with a light chortle, accompanied with a short nod. After taking a rather long sip of his cherry-flavoured beverage, his head tilted.
“Did any of them have a similar memo…. moe… motor… Ahem, MO to you? I wouldn’t think having someone work with you so willingly would be a simple task at hand.” He totally knew how to say modus operandi, absolutely. “Though, if they were a hassle in the end, why have assistants in the first place? Starboy says you went on for a while, no?”
"Well... I suppose the circumstances in which they were... brought on definitely affected it. I was only really working with two others, and both came from the same circumstance, so I knew they had a pretty high likelihood that they'd snitch."
*Hierax waves their hand around as they talked, glad to share (while still sparing crucial and visual details that Caspian didn't really need to be privy of, really) in an activity they enjoyed, no matter how legal it was.*
"Their, ah, modus operandi?"*It said that way too playfully, as if just knowing Caspian had fumbled the phrase he wanted to say.* "Hm... I'm not one to peer into people's minds, but, regardless of how I'd like to think, it was based around fear. Fear of what, I suppose I'll keep that part a bit of a secret."
*Hierax frowned, shaking their head in some strange form of disappointment. Like a normal person should be glad and grateful that they get to work with a serial killer.*
"It's not like I had much of a choice in the matter, really. Had to do something with them, and I thought that maybe having an extra set of hands or two would be beneficial and more efficient.
"...I suppose that became one set of hands. But, no matter!"
*It laughs awkwardly, moving past an irregularity in its explanation. It was smart to keep at least something secret, no? Better to have the conversation move along anyways.*
"Enough about me, Lord Painter. What about you? Our Paranoid Liege is quite vocal about all the things I've done, but what about you? Doesn't have to be why you're here having this conversation with me, could be anything, really."
Hierax's rather playful correction was enough to make him gawk, then lightheartedly stick his tongue out that the other contestant - all good naturedly, of course. Yet, the mention of fear reeled Caspian back in again in awe. Almost like a moth to a flame, some would say. Yet, he knew better than to singe his wings for any further information.
With little time to question the irregularity of its explanation, Caspian grins as Hierax laughs, snickering lightly along. He'd always been someone made easy to laugh, especially with others.
"It's fascinating to hear your perspective." The painter's voice is softer, more genuine than the 'mischevious' role given to him. "Thank you for being so transparent. I'll take it to the grave." With a chuckle, he playfully winks at it.
As the tone shifts, Caspian gasps as the attention is brought onto him. "A-Ah! I don't think I could usurp anything riveting as that. I was but a humble painter. Most of my work followed a lot of emotional aspects from history, or horrific things from dreams and the macabre." There's a slight shrug of Caspian's shoulders as he mentioned his (now, previous) occupation.
"Some... robber tried to break into my home, with my old 'ma on the couch. She was sickly, too. Far too much of a risk, y'know? I was lucky enough to be working late in the night to take care of it. Just didn't mean to kill the guy."
There's a faint shiver, and a falter of his smile that lasted a beat or two. Caspian looked remorsful, a stark contrast to Hierax and it's own killings. But, he quickly resumed that 'role' the show gave him, and barked out a laugh. "Anyways, 'ma and I tried to hide the body together. Shame that our neighbour called the cops before we could properly get it out of the house."
"You flatter me, truly. You call yourself a humble painter, but I know the arts are far more extravagant than even you make yourself out to be. I know I could never hold a pen to the masterpieces I'm certain you've created. If we really want to be parsimonious about it, I was but a humble performer who happened to be involved in the deaths of others."
*They huffed amusedly as Caspian talked, absorbing his explanation. They couldn't help but feel a little bit of sympathy for Caspian's past situation, Arcana knows what Hierax would've done in his shoes. Probably something similar, really. But that wasn't really important.*
"It is unfortunate what had happened to you and your mother, and I offer my condolences. I would hope your mother is, at the very least, faring well?"
"Uuummm... Hello, Hierax... It's b-been a while since I visited you... H-How are you doing lately?... Anything int-teresting happened?..."

//ooc im really tempted to very slightly redesign hierax to make its cloak look more like a wing rather than just a static color.... like it would look sick as hell..... gahhh im not even home but it would be so cool and awesome and make them more falcon-like....
edit itd also make their design a little more cohesive & connected... cuz like the green lowk stands out even though i was trying to make it more blue than anythin
QUESTION FOR THE MOD! if your jcc oc had a kin character list/board, what characters would be on it?
//ooooh! i, the mod, am not wholly experienced w/ kinning (im assuming it's characters you vibe with/identify with? idrk im very casual about shit lol) & related things, and i also cannot, off the top of my head, think of characters that sort of fit/match hierax's vibe.
there was mostly just, like, a vibe for hierax that i wanted to go for? idk i finished listening to a tarot-inspired dnd podcast recently and really wanted to do someone who's a little fanatical about the arcana (<- im a vaguely agnostic/dont really gaf guy for the record).
i suppose there's elements of gillion tidestrider (probably like. early gilly, it is my destiny, follow the prophecy) you could attribute to them? little bit of jaguar joe following that kind of similar idea? also elements of alric (the big big bad in jrwi wonderlust) and maybe professor cross? (i've only really seen him in wonderlust, havent made it that far in pd. just thinking about the weirdo energy in him.)
also there's definitely a few vibe similarities btwn hierax & paeon pestifus. weird ominous ass people
do NOT ask me why i can only think of jrwi characters.
wait. there's definitely elements of cyrus and volo. from pkmn.
idk i very rarely take inspo from other characters? if anything sometimes i try to avoid making ocs that feel too much like characters from existing media, although i cant help it sometimes. also why i made hierax in particular, because while definitely sharing a few elements w/ some of the other contestants, they are fairly distinct in personality (at least i think so?) i did give it the pragmatic title for a reason.
(fun fact! i wanted to jcc-ify another one of my ocs bc he'd fit in perfectly (bombastic arsonist freespirited type) but he felt a little too much like benny in my eyes so i didnt do it lol.)
//OOC OH MY GOD???? MY STUPID MOTHERFUCKING BIRD???? SLASH SILLY????
this is awesome how did i not see this earlier omg. god i hope that augur doesnt get too pragmatic. GAH i love how you draw hierax oughhhh im eatting thgis UP
//ooc that post took me too long to write im tired as hell <_< <- guy who literally asked for that ask. also i somehow forgot to add all the "main" tags (oc blog tags rather than organization tags) but whatever ig
anyways if anyone has any simple/mundane questions to ask hierax feel free :D or just anything in general. gonna keep formatting simpler for now & will give them their gradients some other time
Any thoughts on the other contestants? Does anyone stick out to you?
"Hm, the other contestants? I suppose I have a few thoughts..."
//ooc long post below, also no other images of hierax cuz im kinda lazy. also im not tagging the canon characters here bc they're all here ok? ok.
"My mind first drifts towards my companion and group in the beginning of the game: my Paranoid Liege, Lackadaisical Lady, and Lord Gardener. They're quite the colorful cast, literally and figuratively.
"Our Lackadaisical Lady and I chatted quite a lot about fortune telling, actually! I didn't know she was such a proficient palm reader. We actually did readings for one another, and it was quite insightful, although what we both saw I'll keep to myself.
"Our Lord Gardener and I talked quite a bit about poisonous flora. Well, he did most of the talking, I'm not all that much of a horticulturist, but I did give my own insight about fauna in exchange. He actually reminds me a lot of one of my former classmates back in school.
"My Paranoid Liege on the other hand...
*It sighs dramatically.*
"She just refuses to have a pleasant, civil conversation. I understand that, yes, he is aware of what I did to be here, but that shouldn't be the reason why they're afraid of me. At the very least, we were able to communicate during the preliminaries well enough for us both to survive, and fae did allow me to join their group, regardless of how temporary it may have been, so I hope our relationship improves at some point!
"Ah, there was also Lord Writer! I would love to read one of his books, if I haven't already. What a gentleman it is. Both he and Ser Lord of Crows, in fact, very professional and distinguished individuals that I have had the pleasure of interacting with."
"Hm, let's focus a bit on the little Crew before talking about the, ah, quote unquote 'villains'.
"I quite like our Heartless Maiden, her title is quite easy for me to fit into my character. I have asked if I could call her my Heartless Lady, but she prefers Maiden instead. Our conversations were unfortunately much shorter than I would've wished, but she does have bigger fish to fry. or, well, a mare to dote upon.
"Speaking of, I do love the dedication our Loyal Equestrian has to her title. So loyal to her lady, it's the exemplar subordinate! Ah, but, you probably shouldn't tell her that. And the Devoted Star that keeps a watchful eye on her... oh, now that's a delightful stageplay if I've ever seen one.
"The little Dappy Captain is a pleasure to be around. He and Ser Underdog are quite the lively pair! It's a shame what Ser Underdog experienced, but I do respect the tenacity! And our Lady Heroine is so lovely and jubilant, so vibrantly dressed against the color palette of this set.
"Xing, my Starry Detective, and Bree, our Blooming Lady, are both very kind individuals whose titles seem to... betray them? Especially for Lady Bree, I'm still work-shopping a title considering hers is just so negative.
"As for our Enigma Lord... well, I'm sure their name speaks for himself, no? He does have quite the lovely outfit, something I wouldn't mind wearing myself, and their way of communicating is very fun and delightful!"
"Regarding the show's "villains", they are quite the scheming bunch.
"The Tycoon Lord reminds me of an old boss I once had, back when I was working, ew, retail. Fitting, considering his title. So glad I was only there for a few months before getting a job I actually wanted back in school. He is quite the strategist, I can't deny that.
"Our Lord Jokester is quite the strange one, I will say. A very entertaining Fool, I'll say, but a Fool nonetheless. But, you have the fill the archetype somehow.
"Objectively, I think Lord Dreamboat fits his role. Well, perhaps not the 'Deadly' part yet, mostly the latter part. And this is objective, of course, because I've honestly never experienced nor lingered long about anything of that sort, really. It'd be nice to experience, although I'm not exactly sure how that... happens? Ah, but I digress.
"And, yes, and there were also quite a few who didn't truly stick to one group, quite like myself. Probably the most iconic of them would be Lord Runaway and Lord Gates. Those two make quite the pair! Even the Arcana themselves see it in them. And Lord Runaway's sister is very charming as well. Not to compare the two at all, of course, seems Lady Mechanic gets quite the attention for looking similar to her brother rather than the other way around, but she is a wonderfully interesting person! I never realized there was a whole sport about racing in cars! Although, I suppose there is horseracing as well, so I probably shouldn't be all that surprised...
"Lady Sweet-Heart is just as lovely as her title makes her out to be! It's lovely to meet another bird-enjoyer, although she did seem a touch insecure about being... what, lacking in skills? I'm sure they must've dubbed her a 'savior' for some reason, I'm sure.
"Ser Author is, well... Mumbly is apt enough of a descriptor. Very secretive, although I do believe they've formed quite the bond with Bree, which is very lovely to see. It was quite embarrassing how I acted while it was an owlet and I bearing a pair of wings, though...
"Hm, I believe I'd also seen our Vengeful and Foolish Lieges together... they make quite the couple Lovers, no? Granted, it seems they are, ah, a troubled duo forced to wade in their own trenches. I can only provide my condolences, but I am quite grateful I am not in their shoes. How they are even being transported places is beyond my knowledge.
"As for people who sticks out to me... well, there are quite a lot of people whom I've yet to meet. There's quite a wide variety of people here!
"I believe there are... other magically-adjacent people here? It would be nice to speak to a like-minded individual, I'm sure you understand. Someone who... understands my beliefs and could prove to be an additional ally.
"There are... quite a concerning amount of young squires within this show as well, many of whom I mentioned earlier. To think so many of them in a life of crime, willing or otherwise... how dreadful."
*Hierax lingers on that last word, as if to remember something.*
"I can only be grateful, can I? To have lasted as long as I have? To have lived somewhere that isn't this Devils-hearth that is Modos? Not to offend the Devil himself, of course...
"...oh! I didn't realize I was still on mic. I'm still uncertain how these things worked, never really was, ah, raised around such innovative technology."
"Ah, well... I believe the press called me... 'The Ostriched Killer'? Definitely not the title I would've called myself, maybe The Arcana's Proxy? Or Death's Executioner? Something much more refined and specific about what I did and why I did it.
"I am not ashamed or regretful for what I did, no. Being dubbed a 'serial killer' is simply a fact, although I would prefer a much fancier title myself.
"You could reasonably do some research on myself, but to make it simple enough for you, I killed those I or the Arcana believed deserved it, and acted accordingly. There is, I suppose, some merit in my title being the 'augur', considering how they found what remained of my, ah, 'victims'."
"As for how I was arrested, well...
"I had simply been giving some of my... co-workers and opportunity to join me in my Arcana-given task! And yet, they were oh-so ungrateful, I just had to punish them. Despite that, they still managed to call the police, and, well...
"I thought I learned from my last run-in with the police, but Modos's police are much more ruthless than my home town's. And now, here I am!"
*It bows, as if simply giving a performance rather than explaining its sins.*
if you dont mind the question, what was your family like?
"My family?"
*They're quiet for a long moment, feathers rustling behind their stiffened back. Then, they smile slowly, careful to not betray a single emotion.*
"I don't mind at all! I- ah- well, you see, the Fates raised me. Not the trio of Fates, no, but rather the Fates that watch over the World, you see. The Grand Arcana, if you will. I was an only child, and when the Fates realized my, ah, original parents were... unfit for the task, well... whatever happened to them is just between the Arcanas themselves."
*It laughs softly to itself, the sound trailing off as it clenches its fist tightly.*
"As if they deserved a child like me."
*As if realizing they were still talking, Hierax smiled, the grin ever so slightly too large.*
"Ah, but other than that, I suppose my family was... uneventful. A blip compared to what I've come to experience on my own. Nothing important."
[Winged Hierax - 5/5]
*With a magical poof, the wings behind Hierax disappear.*
"Ah, what a shame. I was really hoping to attempt to break free from my Cretan Tower here, haha."
"Hello, Madame Mechanic! I'm the Pragmatic Augur, or Hierax, whichever you prefer to use. I couldn't help but notice your... odd similarities with Mr. Runaway, are you two related by any means?"
- @the-pragmatic-augur
“I swear this is everyone’s question…let’s get this introduction outta the way! I’m Dazey or the messy mechanic, and yes I’m Bennys twin sister. He hates when I mention it but I’m the older twin by 3 minutes”
"Oh, twins! I do apologize for the redundant question, you don't often expect to see relatives in a place like this, be it your own or other's. If it helps, I did assume you were older by some degree, regardless of your title being... messy."
"How has the show been treating you? I noticed you were mostly alone, bouncing around. Bored at all?"
“GOD YES IVE BEEN BORED, I haven’t seen the open road in WEEKS. Seriously all we have is drinking and gambling. And dont feel too bad about the question it’s a reasonable ask. Sometimes I wish that people would ask about me instead.”
"Well... were you actually a mechanic like your title suggests? Not many people's titles reflected their actual occupations, but yours seems reasonable enough to fit."
"Huh, is there any reason why you had to quit? I don't know much about cars - or really what... F1 is - but it seems like a fairly reasonable and stable job."
“Oh right i forgot not everyone’s a car nerd, well f1 stands for formula 1 it’s an international motor race. Tons of people come from around the world to watch the cars and I was the mechanic for em. Every lap each car stops and changes its tires to get better grip on the road and it takes a team of mechanics to do so and that was my job among other things like preparing cars for races and repairs afterwards.”
(Once she starts rambling it’s hard to get her to stop but she ends up stoping herself and getting to the point)
“And it is a good job and I made good salary. I would have kept going but due to some eh, complications I had to quit and let’s just say their the reason I’m here and leave it at that.”
