Peter hides his stim toys when he enters Tonyâs lab. His mentor canât see him playing with a fidget cube. Heâll think heâs distracted or childish! Peter canât have that!
Tony has a small box of stim toys he keeps in his lab. Stress balls, fidget spinners, Iron Man squishies heâs collected over the years. He has to fidget. Active hands equal an active mind.
Tony: I donât want kids! Their germy hands touch everything. Just being near them causes me to feel ill.
Pepper: Okay so you donât like kids because they might get you sick, but when Peter was sick last week youâ
Tony: Thatâs different, okay? We donât know how Peterâs enhancements work yet so it was imperative someone keep an eye on him to make sure he doesnât keel over
Pepper, smirking: -And rub his back. And sing to him. And let him fall asleep in your lap. Andâ
Stumbled across all of my drafts of things I wrote when Parkner was my hyper fixation and theyâre still cute ideas but idk if Iâd be able to write them well anymore.
Summary: After a standard, run of the mill mission, Harley can't seem to get comfortable. Reason being, apparently he's grown a whole set of wings, and has no idea where they could have come from.
Warnings: discussion of religion, religious trauma, hurt/comfort, angst, dubious science
A/N: listen. I've been working on this fic for almost a year. let me have this

Harley felt his spine expand and pop as he stretched his arms above his head. âOh god,â he groaned.
âNeed to go to medical?â Peter teased.
âI got released from medical an hour ago, Iâm fine. Itâs probably just the usual back pain.â
âIf youâre sure,â Peter said. âCome on, we should go get food.â
âCan we just order in? Iâm too sore to even think about cooking.â
âSure. Pizza?â
âWorks for me. Iâll go load something up on the TV.â
He collapsed on the couch and scrolled through their watch list. Honestly, he didnât have much energy to focus on anything serious, so he landed on something theyâd seen a hundred times before.
Still, no matter how he sat, he couldnât get comfortable.
âFood should be here in half an hour. Harley, if your back is bothering you that much we can go sit on the bed.â
âDo you care? Itâs not painful, but itâs like I canât sit right.â
âWe have a mountain of pillows that should do the trick,â Peter said. âCâmon.â He helped Harley up and had JARVIS transfer the screen Harley had pulled up to the bedroom TV.
Peter pushed ahead of him to try and arrange the pillows as a back rest.
âThis seems a little over the top.â
âYouâre the one with back pain, babe. See if this helps.â
Harley let himself drop into the pile and adjusted himself into a sitting position. âItâs better than the couch,â he admitted.
âStill not comfortable though?â
He shook his head.
âSeriously dude, if you need Dr. Cho, we can call her.â
âI told you Iâm fine. You know I have back issues, but I donât think itâs any different than the usual pain.â It was only a partial lie. He was no stranger to sore spots, just maybe not this particular brand of ache.
âYou know what, no, fuck that. Lay on your stomach.â
âWhat?â
âLay on your stomach,â Peter repeated. âIâm gonna see if I can feel any knots that I can work out.â
Reasonably, it wasnât a bad option. Peterâs hands had relieved the tension in his neck and shoulders tons of times, there was no reason this should be any different.
He complied, and Peter straddled his thighs. âIâm gonna tap different parts of your back. Let me know when I get close to the source of the pain alright?â
Harleyâs response was smothered by the comforter, but Peter seemed to understand and started at the base of his neck, tapped twice for each section, and waited a few seconds to give Harley a chance to respond.
When Peter hit halfway between his shoulder blades and the middle of his back, he slapped the bed, and Peter stopped. âThere?â
âI think so,â Harley muttered as he shifted his head. âThereâs more pressure there so thatâs gotta be something.
Peter frowned. âPressure?â
âPain is the wrong word.â Harley did his best to shrug. âYou can keep going.â
He pushed Harleyâs head back into the mattress before positioning his hands over the spot Harley had indicated before he pressed in.
And stayed there.
âWhat the hell?â
âWhat?â
âHarley, you know I wouldnât ask you unless it was urgent, but can I take off your shirt?â
He sat up and looked at Peter. âWhy?â he asked slowly.
âThereâs something there, and I canât get a good feel for it with your shirt on. Please? Just humor me. If itâs nothing, you can put it right back on, I promise.â He fiddled with the hem of Harleyâs shirt, waiting for Harleyâs permission
Harley sighed and turned to face the wall. âFine, letâs just get this over with.â
The shirt came off easily, and the second it was over his head, he felt something release. He went to examine the shirt to see if maybe the material was bothering him, but he couldnât exactly see.
âUh Peter? Whatâs going on?â
There was a beat of silence. Then- âWeâre calling Dr. Cho.â
~~~
âWhat do you mean you donât know?â Tony demanded.
Harley felt exposed sitting shirtless in the middle of the lab surrounded by Cho, Tony, and Bruce.
âI mean I donât know, Tony. One minute I was fine, peachy even, and the next-â he motioned to the wings on his back. âI donât know where they came from.â
The wings spanned approximately twelve feet in either direction when fully extended, and seemed to flutter of their own accord.
âAnd this wasnât from todayâs mission?â Cho asked.
Peter chose that moment to reappear from the elevator, pizza in hand. âThat guy was all metal gears and robots. Thereâs no way this came from him.â
He handed Harley a slice of pizza which Tony immediately stole. Harley made an offended sound, and Peter handed him another one.
âSo how the hell did they get there?â
Harley sighed. âIf I knew, Iâd tell you, but the fact is I have literally no idea how this happened.â
Tony moved around him to examine the wings closer and took the second piece of pizza out of Harleyâs hand in the process.
âOkay, Bruce, can you wrangle him please?â
âHey Tony, why donât you go run the numbers from Harleyâs suit and see if you can spot any abnormalities,â Bruce suggested, taking Harleyâs cue to distract him. âI think Cho and I can take it from here.â
âBut-â
âTony, as much as I appreciate your input, weâre gonna need those scans at some point, so can you please just get it done?â Cho asked as she tried to subtly push him out of the room.
âAre you trying to kick me out of my own lab? Hey!â
Harley took the opportunity to smack him with his wing. âGet out or weâre calling Rhodey and Pepper.â
He glared at him, but left them alone and promised to send up any results he found.
Once he was gone, Bruce pulled on a pair of medical gloves. âAre you okay with us taking tissue samples just to see if thereâs a magical imprint or alien matter?â
âNo bases left uncovered,â Harley concurred. âSure, go for it.â
âI donât know what kind of sensory input you get from these, but I have to pull a feather or two. Helen?â
âIâm guessing you already know what needles feel like, so Iâm just going to give you a count down before I take your blood,â Helen told him. âThen Iâm going to see if I can extract anything from the base of the wings themselves and give you a quick physical exam.â
Harley nodded and held out his arm to her, wincing when Bruce plucked one of his feathers.
âDid that hurt?â he asked.
âItâs comparable to pulling out a hair,â Harley said. âItâs not bad, just weird.â
Cho gave him a warning, and Harley stared at the opposite wall until he felt the needle withdraw. âAlmost done.â She went around to the other side of the table and motioned for Bruce to hold some of the plumage out of the way. âThree, two, one.â
He tried to not flinch when the needle went in. âAnything?â
âTen more seconds.â
It was the slowest ten seconds of his life, but once it was over, he relaxed.
âAt first glance, itâs similar to what could be pulled from a birdâs wing, but we wonât know that for sure until we put it under a microscope. Bruce, want to take care of that?â
âOn it.â He took the vials they collected and transferred them to a carrier. âIâll be on the other side of the lab if you need me.â
Helen nodded and waved him off. âOkay, complete transparency, I have no idea how to conduct a physical to a person with wings, so weâre going to play this by ear. Extend them as far as you can for me.â
He waited patiently as she dragged a light and a magnifier over the surface.
âTuck in.â
The wings were large, but not difficult to fold.
She hummed. âOkay, extend again.â
He did.
âInteresting. Tuck in again, I need to examine the bone structure.â
That part of the exam was longer, but she didnât seem overly concerned about the data she collected, all things considered.
âHow we doing, doc?â
âShockingly well actually. The wings work more or less like another set of limbs, and theyâre not harmful to you at all. Honestly, Iâm almost certain theyâre functional, which medically speaking, is unbelievably cool.â
Harley blinked. âFunctional? Like I couldâŠ?
âFly without your suit? Yeah.â
He flapped the wings lightly, as if to test the theory. âHoly shit.â
âNot in the lab!â Bruce yelled from across the room. âIf you want to test that, use a balcony or a landing platform!â
Helen shook her head. âWeâll test it in a few minutes, I just have a couple more things I want to test. Iâm curious how your shirt managed to cover them so that not even you noticed they were there. Peter, did you bring what I asked you to?â
âYes maâam.â He produced a shirt Harley thought had come from the bottom of his drawer, something he didnât wear but felt weird about getting rid of.
âGreat. Harley, try putting this on.â
The shirt slipped over his head easily, which was honestly a little surprising.
She paused for a brief moment. âHow the hell? Bruce, get over here.â
âYeah? Whatâs going on? What?â Bruce looked Harley up and down in disbelief. âWhere did they go?â
âWhere did what go?â Harley glanced over his shoulder. âWhat?â he echoed Bruceâs previous statement.
His wings were gone.
âFascinating,â Cho muttered. âJARVIS, did you get a scan of that?â
âYes I did, Dr. Cho. A copy has been sent to your server, along with those of Dr. Banner and Mr. Stark.â
âThank you JARVIS.â
âHappy to help, Doctor.â
She addressed Harley. âHow do you feel?â
âThe pressure is back,â he admitted.
âInteresting,â she repeated. âPeter, come here.â
âSure, whatâs up?â He hopped up from where he had perched himself on a clear workspace.
Cho handed him a sharp looking object. âThis should be sharp enough to cut through the material. You have the best idea of exactly where the wings are from an outside perspective, so see if theyâll come through the shirt.â
He nodded. âDo you trust me?â he asked Harley.
âYou know I do.â
The scalpel ripped through the fabric easily, and the wings popped back out.
Harley breathed a sigh of relief. âThank god.â
Cho smiled sympathetically. âYou might have to ruin a few shirts until we can figure out a more permanent solution, but you can wear shirts with them, yes. Unfortunately youâre going to need it off for your test flight, just so we have a full picture of whatâs going on.â
Tony chose that moment to walk back in. âIâve got JARVIS running all the scans he doesnât need me for, but I also took the liberty of using a composite of the physical scans to get shirts specifically tailored to your wings so you donât have to ruin any more of the ones you currently own. Now, whatâs this I hear about a test flight?â
Hmmm this was a random thought (well kinda random itâs my birthday so thatâs what made me think of it) do you think that parkner or ironhusbands have any birthday traditions? -đž
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABE I HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST DAY EVER OF COURSE YOU CAN SOME HEADCANONS
for parkner:
Peter isn't really into celebrating his birthday because he didn't grow up with much, but Harley is ready to go all in
Harley also didn't grow up with much, but his mom let him pick where they went for dinner so at least he has a tradition
so the tradition becomes both of theirs
Peter likes to have Harley cook for him, which Harley loves doing so it works out
when it's Harley's birthday, Peter pays, which Harley hates but he puts up with it anyways
for ironhusbands
Tony is the best at gift giving. they're not even usually expensive, but they mean a lot to whoever he gives them too
that being said he forgets his own birthday a lot
Rhodey figured out a way around this. spend the day getting Tony away from work and stress, and when Tony asks why, he gives him a cake and says happy birthday
also, they're both big on surprise parties, so there's that
3,4, and 13 for parkner from the headcannon prompt list please!
3. Scars or painful spots
Harley: he has scars on his knees and elbows, back pain that puts people 20 years older than him to shame, and an ankle that acts up when the weather gets bad
Peter: he has scars all over his hands from spiderman related injuries, headaches, knee and wrist pain, and an ache in his ribs
4. Best places to kiss on their body
Harley: neck, shoulder, cheeks
Peter: wrists, hands, collarbones
13. What gets them flustered
Harley: people being soft with him, compliments, getting called handsome, affection
Peter: unexpected gifts, âthis made me think of youââs, also compliments, the phrase âI love youâ
đđâšSend this to the twelve nicest people you know or seem to have a good heart and if you get five back you must be pretty awesomeđ€âźïžđ«
I only just now saw this but omg awww!!! Thank you!! Right back at you dude!
