My name is Saja. I’m a wife, a mother, and a woman who once believed her story would be simple. I thought my days would be filled with watching my daughter grow — from her first smile to her first steps — surrounded by the small joys of everyday life.

Imagine holding your baby in the middle of the night, not because she cried, but because the world outside roared too loud for either of you to sleep. Imagine whispering bedtime stories not to lull her into dreams, but to keep the fear from settling into her tiny bones.

This is my life.

This is my daughter’s life.

And even now — especially now — I believe in softness. I believe in kindness. Because when everything else is taken from you, hope becomes the most valuable thing you have.

Why I’m Reaching Out Our home has been damaged. Our lives changed. But through it all, my daughter wakes up every morning with a smile. She reaches for me with trust, with love, with faith that I will keep her safe.

That’s why I keep going.

My friend arden and I thought of this plot yesterday and lowkey It could be funny, but I never write nor read romance, so this is a first to me, but it could help me make progress, an dby that i mean a lot. Writing might be a bit funky so sorry in advance, and I just wanna know if it has potential or if I should just forget about it-

Chapter 1

It all started on a Thursday morning, the day had started like every other, Eleanor woke up as the sun rose, knowing fully well she would only get to rest once, in the evening. She made her way to her father’s bakery, ready to help him out as best as she could.

Eleanor wasn’t the most suited for this life, it wasn’t what she wished to do, but her family needed her : the taxes had gone up once again, and this was the only way to make money ; so there she was, kneading the dough with all the strength in her arms, not caring about the pain burning her joints. She worked hard for a couple hours in the back, waiting to open the store at 8 am, and when said time arrived, she filled the stands with warm pastries and breads, right out of the oven.

She closed her eyes as she breathed in the sweet scent that was now filling the entire bakery. Customers will soon walk in, and her day will officially begin, but until then, she needed to prepare another batch of sourdough.

As she carried a bag of flour to her kitchen, she heard the tingle of the front door’s bell, signalling the entry of the first customer of the day. She gathered herself, and soon she was behind the counter, greeting him.

« Hello sir, how are you today? »

« A loaf of bread, quick. »

« Oh…you seem to be in a rush, do you have somewhere to be? » She said as she served him

« Did I ask you to talk woman? Do your job and give me what I asked. Lord has mercy on the man you'll marry. »

His harsh words cut deep into her, but not dropping her smile, she kindly kindly asked:

«A pound and a half please»

The man put the money on the counter, grabbed his bread, and left as fast as he entered. The exchange finished; she took a break in the bathroom.

In front of a mirror, Eleanor stared at her reflection: her curly brown hair was tied in a messy bun behind her head, her skin was dull and tired, the bags under her eyes opposing the white of her skin, her dress had white spots because of the flour she dropped earlier, her apron making her appear shorter than what she actually was.

She wasn't the most beautiful woman, that was for sure, but she still didn't enjoy the way that man talked to her earlier. She might not be rich, but she wasn’t worthless either. So, giving her reflection a reassuring smile, she wiped a stray tear away from her face and went back to the front.

The rest of the day was calm, the regulars picking up their order, the sweet lady from the neighbouring shop bringing her a basket of plums in exchange of a few pastries, and before she even knew it, night was around the corner.

As she was closing up the store, a man, about her age dressed in a long trench coat approached, holding the door

“Is there anyways a pretty lady would agree on serving one last customer today?”
