"Dark Side of the Moon" [S05E16]
#dean has been cleaning up after his father since before the fire #since he was a /baby/ #dean has been an emotional crutch for as long as he can remember #not that mary would have meant to use him that way #but his heart is so tender and giving that he saw this need and this hurt and he wanted to fill it #but children shouldn’t have to say those words or carry those burdens #even before the fire dean carried too much responsibility because of john #it wasn’t just the fire it wasn’t just losing mary it wasn’t just monsters and demons #look at this closely and you will see the first stages of an abused child #it breaks my fucking heart #dean #fuck john winchester #mary winchester #5x16 #q
I have a little bit of a problem with your tags here, and I wanted to add to them, you don’t have to respond if you don’t want to, and please don’t consider this some kind of insult. Our views don’t match up when it comes to John Winchester, but they don’t have to, and I respect your opinion (I used to be sierranic, by the way, I think we messaged a couple times).
Anyway, my problem is… this scene? This is on Mary, not John. We don’t have any idea what kind of fight they had, why John left the house, but for all we know, it may have been the right decision at the time. Just because it upset Dean, doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right thing to do. We can only speculate about the fight that led to John leaving, but married couples fight all the time, and sometimes the best decision is for one of them to walk away, even just temporarily.
John wasn’t relying on Dean to clean up his mess, or to give him comfort, that was Mary. She accepted Dean’s comfort, and she didn’t do much to give him any in return; she didn’t need her 4 year old to tell her that John still loved her, but I’m sure Dean could have benefited from hearing his mother say that John loved him. That the fight wasn’t his fault. John didn’t leave because of Dean.
And you say "not that Mary would have meant to use him that way" … but isn’t that just an excuse, one that you will not allow in John’s case? The point is, Mary did allow Dean to give her emotional support, when she should have been the one giving it to him.
So it just seems really unfair to say “Fuck John Winchester” for this, when he wasn’t even there; but Mary was, and she gets a pass because she didn’t mean to rely on Dean so much.
my issue with john winchester i think is 80% an issue with the spn fandom itself…50% of people are like “trash physically abusive evil neglectful dude useless dad” and the other half are like “um excuse me he was amazing he did nothing wrong he didn’t mess...
First of all, I just want to say that I wasn't attacking you or anything. Sorry if it came out that way.
My reply was basically to let you know that the fandom is not split between people who hate John and people people who love him.
50% of fans hate John (whether for reasonable reasons or mindless hate), about 30% don't give a fuck about him at all, maybe 18% actually love him while acknowledging his mistakes and then there's the 2% who are considered stans that you unfortunatley had to come across.
So, it's not true that the fandom is split between people who HATE him and make him out to be the worst and people who LOVE him and make him out to be perfect.
This is also why I have a problem with post you reblogged, that post makes it seem like the fandom is split into two extremes regarding John Winchester, which is not true at all.
my issue with john winchester i think is 80% an issue with the spn fandom itself…50% of people are like “trash physically abusive evil neglectful dude useless dad” and the other half are like “um excuse me he was amazing he did nothing wrong he didn’t mess dean up in any way i’ll stan him till the day i die and all your accusations are false” like…it’s not as simple as that you are both wrong
I would love to know where you find these 50% "um excuse me he was amazing he did nothing wrong he didn't mess dean up in any way i'll stan him till the day i die and all your accusations are false" fans, because as a John fan, who surrounds themselves with every John fan they find, I've maybe seen one or two who are stans like that. Every single characters has their stans.. but John probably has the least of them.
Most (90%) John fans (including myself) have the habit of beginning their posts that talk about positive things about John with "I know John wasn't perfect" or "I know he made mistakes regarding Sam and Dean", etc, which I think is getting a bit annoying because how many pro *Sam or Dean or Cas or Bobby or Mary, etc* posts have you ever seen that start with those kinds of sentences? I'm betting not many.. even though all those characters made lots of mistakes.
Personally, I mostly post positive things about John (isn't that what a fan is supposed to do anyway?) because there's more than enough of the bad things about him. But when someone asks me what I think about a certain mistake he made I will talk about that mistake and show my frustration with what he did. Like if I talk about Something Wicked I will go on about how wrong it was of John to leave Dean and Sam alone.
But you're not going to see me make a post every single day about why John wasn't perfect.. it's kind of unfair for people to expect that of us when it's not expected of any other fan.
yooooo
but imagine
john returns, sees what’s happening and goes all ‘fuck y’all, my boy didn’t sign up for this, I’m calling a do-over’ and takes the mark from dean bc if anyone can rule that tattoo wannabe it’s john

I know there’s no way...
oh no cain lost his upper hand. i am so up in arms about this development. someone should have lent him a hand. i mean yeah he did overplay his hand at first, but who would have thought that dean still has some tricks up his sleeves right? on the other hand, cain’s death is not shown explicitly so there’s still elbow room for his return in the future — let’s keep our fingers crossed!
[omg i’m so out of hand control someone help me]

I know there’s no way it’ll happen, but man, how awesome it’d be…
Why is everyone worried about Dean killing Sam? The writers couldn't even let Dean kill innocent people as a demon (he killed Lester but the man was going to kill his wife for cheating.. even though he's a cheater himself.. so he was no innocent) and even the massacre was against scumbags who should've been behind bars for the rest of their lives anyway. I really don't think that the writers would be able to go that far.. maybe Dean will kill Crowley (and I'm hoping he will) but that's all. There's no way that he'll kill Sam.
This Sunday, February 22nd, take some time out of your day and rewatch the very first episode of Supernatural, the Pilot. The one that started it all :)
I know John isn’t in much of it, but it is our first glimpse of him, and the only time we get to see him as the family man...
