sitting in a sideroom, it flipped through a few of the dna files she'd picked up, skimming them. Nothing interesting. He didn't understand why urbanshade cared so much about the dna. It didn't seem interesting enough to be noteworthy? all just some corporate jargon.

*It skittered along in the vents, rapidly making xyr way from room to room, before it noticed Barracuda and stopped abruptly.

It paused in a vent behind you, looking into the room, staring at you from behind the grate, looking down at what you were reading.*

Standing up, she watched the door for a moment, not bothering to check behind himself. Main concern was anglers. Too prominent.

*It growled and chittered quietly behind you.

It hungered. Xyr body hurt so, so much. So hungry.

The spines on their back raised, scraping lightly against the roof of the vent.*

It shoved the vent cover off and threw it aside with a loud crash, and then crawled about halfway through the vent.

A few tentacle-like appendages came from the vent as well. It looked similar to those locker-creatures you’d been seeing.*

Will you… help me?

Its claws dug into your arms and chest, its serrated, doglike teeth far too close for comfort.

The inside of its mouth was bright purple- and so were the spines on its back, and the tips its claws.*

So… hungry…

*It responded to the kick by developing another mouth- it’s ribcage splitting open to form teeth and biting down on your leg.

But after an excruciatingly long moment- their grip loosening almost completely.*

*Its voice wasn’t its own. It spoke in others voices, switching tones and pitches and volumes. It repeated the same phrase over and over.

the sudden movements didn't help her dizziness ,but if it was for !a good reason !then it wouldn't argue.

*It paused over a vent cover, looking down into the room below, and mumbled something under its breath.*

*It dropped down into the room- Sebastian’s shop, you could see now- and carefully put you down onto a ledge overlooking the area.

It shifted back to its preferred form, and fidgeted with its lanyard.*

D-don’t fall asleep. Won’t be good.

“ I know better than that. i won't , don'worry !”

she tried sitting up again, slowly pushing himself up. nnnot smart BUT better than before ?not really.

- Squidy sat holed up under one of the many empty desks littering the facility. His tentacles were scrunched up to his chin, arms wrapped around himself. The kid was sleepy, drifting in and out of consciousness- unfortunately, the distant sounds of metal scraping against metal accompanied by feral growls and roars kept waking him up every few minutes. Basically, he was not having a good time, but who is down here? -

*Mockery launched out of one of the vents on the ceiling, rapidly changing form from a shifting blob of arms and legs to a more humanoid form, and landed on all fours.

They skittered around the room quickly, picking up spare DNA and research and putting it in their bag.

They leaped up on top of the desk Squidy was under, jolting the desk slightly- but they didn’t seem to notice him.*

- Well that definitely woke him up. He made a sort of surprised squeaking noise, glowing eyes shooting wide open and wildly looking around the dark space. He didn’t quite seem to realize the mysterious thud came from right above him though, still in that dazed state of half awake and half asleep. -

*It heard the squeaking, and quickly dropped down to the front of the desk, staring at Squidy curiously. Its long, thin, spiked tail flicked as it landed.*

Who are you? You definitely aren’t an expendable.

*Its bag came down with it. You heard clacking from inside it.*

“AAH!”

- Squidy yelped in surprise, grabbing the nearest object- an empty tape dispenser- and throwing it at the mysterious creatures face. And then proceeded to miss completely. He went dead silent for a few seconds, face flushed with embarrassment before quickly clearing his throat. -

“That was a warning throw. I missed on purpose. Just so you know.”

“…and, uhm, my name is Squidy.”

…Sure you did.

My name is Mockery.

*It seemed to be examining you very closely, silently studying your appearance.*

- They look quite similar to the Squiddle creatures found down here, with the same dark skin and tentacles. They’re also wearing a slightly glowing mask, resembling the faces the squid-like creatures put on when threatened. Their voice is fairly squeaky, and they’re quite small… they seem a bit young to be in a place like this. They’re also staring down the new person, now known as Mockery, locked in a one sided staring contest he literally cannot lose. -

*Suddenly, they began to change. Within minutes, you were staring at a near-perfect replica of yourself- though still only a silhouette.

The light didn’t seem to hit Mockery at all, making them a pitch black shadow. The spikes going down xyr back were still there, however- and their unblinking newly formed eyes were blank white.

Mockery was also far too young to be in a place like this. Xe decided not to bring it up, though- it was an uncomfortable topic as to how it ended up an expendable so young, and they imagined it would be uncomfortable for Squidy as well.*

- Squidy gasped- not in fear, but in awe. He tilted his head curiously, leaning closer and staring at the inky replica like a moth transfixed on a light. Xe didn’t seem to attack him right away… and xe also talked back… therefore, friendly! Probably. Hopefully. He decided this was the perfect opportunity to shove down the stinging loneliness rattling around in the back of their head. -

What are you doing hiding down here, anyway?

*It smiled at you, tilting its head to match yours.*

“What are YOU doing down here?”

- Squidy deflected, skimming around the question because, well, honestly he didn’t know the answer himself. He thought for a moment, then reached out to poke the face of the strange clone. -

Eating. What else?

Plenty of expendables. It’s not like Urbanshade will run out any time soon. Though, I’d enjoy if they sent down more capable teams…

*Its voice sounded strange, like a patchwork of voices stitched together into a messy quilt, changing pitch and tone at a moments notice. You heard your own voice in there.*

- Squidy did a full body shudder, harshly recoiling and pulling their slightly clawed hand back towards their chest. He sounded absolutely horrified, like he just watched someone kick a sick puppy. -

“You EAT them? Why!?”

- He suddenly became very aware of the fact he was still trapped and cornered by this mysterious shapeshifter under the desk with little to no escape plan. He didn’t want to get eaten, he was (probably?) too young to die! -

*It pulled at the lanyard on its neck, bringing up the card attached. Experiment Z-8395, it read.*

Urbanshade made me like this. Blame them.

Plus, what else do you suggest I eat? You? I wouldn’t do that.

“Nuh uh! Just don’t eat then! It’s not like you need to.”

- He said with 100% sincerity. Grass is green, water is blue, and people don’t need to eat and only do so for fun, obviously. -

“I sometimes eat random stuff I find just to see what it tastes like, but I wouldn’t eat a person!”

- How on earth was this kid still alive. -

*It paused for a second, then laughed.*

Where’d you learn that from? Of course people need to eat.

I don’t have organs, but I still need to eat. I’m hungry. Always hungry.

Hunger is painful.

*It got closer with that last sentence. Was it going to eat you?*

- He opened his mouth to answer, and then closed it. He did this a couple of times, just thinking. Squidy was staring downward at the floor, deep in thought. -

“I’m not sure. It’s just. A thing I know, I guess? Or thought I knew at least.”

- When he looked up he realized just how close the mimic was, practically face to face. They yelped and batted at their face like a cat, immediately snapped out of their daze. -

*Mockery seemed to have no response to being batted- instead just transforming back into what they looked like before and giggling quietly.

They had similar coloration to those void-locker-creature things you’d been seeing.*

What are you hiding from anyway?

The expendables aren’t allowed to have weapons, I doubt they could hurt you.

“The ones in the wetsuits? Yeah, they’re harmless, mostly. Some of the other creatures down here though?”

- Squidy shuddered, reliving bad memories. -

“The big screaming fish, especially the one that smells like rotting corpses and has way too many eyes, the wall people that chase you down, the bright whale with the sharp stabby bits? They weren’t really uh… keen on being friends.”

*It laughed.*

There are plenty of ways to get around the blacksite without running into anyone.

The vents are my go to- they connect everywhere, and im the only one that can fit in there and still move quickly.

No point in hiding anyway. If you don’t keep moving, something will find you eventually. And it might be hungry.

A few tentacle-like appendages came from the vent as well. It looked similar to those locker-creatures you’d been seeing.*

@Squidy-the-squid

- Squidy sat holed up under one of the many empty desks littering the facility. His tentacles were scrunched up to his chin, arms wrapped around himself. The kid was sleepy, drifting in and out of consciousness- unfortunately, the distant sounds of metal scraping against metal accompanied by feral growls and roars kept waking him up every few minutes. Basically, he was not having a good time, but who is down here? -

*Mockery launched out of one of the vents on the ceiling, rapidly changing form from a shifting blob of arms and legs to a more humanoid form, and landed on all fours.

They skittered around the room quickly, picking up spare DNA and research and putting it in their bag.

They leaped up on top of the desk Squidy was under, jolting the desk slightly- but they didn’t seem to notice him.*

- Well that definitely woke him up. He made a sort of surprised squeaking noise, glowing eyes shooting wide open and wildly looking around the dark space. He didn’t quite seem to realize the mysterious thud came from right above him though, still in that dazed state of half awake and half asleep. -

*It heard the squeaking, and quickly dropped down to the front of the desk, staring at Squidy curiously. Its long, thin, spiked tail flicked as it landed.*

Who are you? You definitely aren’t an expendable.

*Its bag came down with it. You heard clacking from inside it.*

“AAH!”

- Squidy yelped in surprise, grabbing the nearest object- an empty tape dispenser- and throwing it at the mysterious creatures face. And then proceeded to miss completely. He went dead silent for a few seconds, face flushed with embarrassment before quickly clearing his throat. -

“That was a warning throw. I missed on purpose. Just so you know.”

“…and, uhm, my name is Squidy.”

…Sure you did.

My name is Mockery.

*It seemed to be examining you very closely, silently studying your appearance.*

- They look quite similar to the Squiddle creatures found down here, with the same dark skin and tentacles. They’re also wearing a slightly glowing mask, resembling the faces the squid-like creatures put on when threatened. Their voice is fairly squeaky, and they’re quite small… they seem a bit young to be in a place like this. They’re also staring down the new person, now known as Mockery, locked in a one sided staring contest he literally cannot lose. -

*Suddenly, they began to change. Within minutes, you were staring at a near-perfect replica of yourself- though still only a silhouette.

The light didn’t seem to hit Mockery at all, making them a pitch black shadow. The spikes going down xyr back were still there, however- and their unblinking newly formed eyes were blank white.

Mockery was also far too young to be in a place like this. Xe decided not to bring it up, though- it was an uncomfortable topic as to how it ended up an expendable so young, and they imagined it would be uncomfortable for Squidy as well.*

- Squidy gasped- not in fear, but in awe. He tilted his head curiously, leaning closer and staring at the inky replica like a moth transfixed on a light. Xe didn’t seem to attack him right away… and xe also talked back… therefore, friendly! Probably. Hopefully. He decided this was the perfect opportunity to shove down the stinging loneliness rattling around in the back of their head. -

What are you doing hiding down here, anyway?

*It smiled at you, tilting its head to match yours.*

“What are YOU doing down here?”

- Squidy deflected, skimming around the question because, well, honestly he didn’t know the answer himself. He thought for a moment, then reached out to poke the face of the strange clone. -

Eating. What else?

Plenty of expendables. It’s not like Urbanshade will run out any time soon. Though, I’d enjoy if they sent down more capable teams…

*Its voice sounded strange, like a patchwork of voices stitched together into a messy quilt, changing pitch and tone at a moments notice. You heard your own voice in there.*

- Squidy did a full body shudder, harshly recoiling and pulling their slightly clawed hand back towards their chest. He sounded absolutely horrified, like he just watched someone kick a sick puppy. -

“You EAT them? Why!?”

- He suddenly became very aware of the fact he was still trapped and cornered by this mysterious shapeshifter under the desk with little to no escape plan. He didn’t want to get eaten, he was (probably?) too young to die! -

*It pulled at the lanyard on its neck, bringing up the card attached. Experiment Z-8395, it read.*

Urbanshade made me like this. Blame them.

Plus, what else do you suggest I eat? You? I wouldn’t do that.

“Nuh uh! Just don’t eat then! It’s not like you need to.”

- He said with 100% sincerity. Grass is green, water is blue, and people don’t need to eat and only do so for fun, obviously. -

“I sometimes eat random stuff I find just to see what it tastes like, but I wouldn’t eat a person!”

- How on earth was this kid still alive. -
