Welcome to our blog!

We are the Candlelight System, a system shaped by but not entirely made through intentional tulpamancy skills. We have been an established system for over a year now and have an interest in teaching others about tulpamancy, sharing projects of ours both related and unrelated to tulpamancy and plurality, and having a place to discuss some of the fun happenings in our life.

Some fun facts about ourselves in no real order:

Bodily adult

Current system size is 17 members including the original. This may expand in the future but we believe not by much.

Origin of the system isn't particularly important to us but we believe ourselves to be endogenic for the time being and as previously stated tulpamantic/parogenic for the most part. Due to an unusual entrance to plurality with our first non original member though and the fact that there is traumatic stuff in our past we leave room open for some traumagenic influence. Most of us would still choose to identify as tulpas either way though.

No disorderly system mechanics to our understanding. We have complete control of switching and perfect communication between members. We also do not gain new members without actively choosing to accept a potential member (what the tulpamancy community refers to as walk-ins) or creating them via tulpamancy practices. We do have memory problems and past trauma, but do not view it as related to our system or most of it's mechanics. Are open to changing this if future data suggests differently.

Bodily male but most of the system identifies as female. Do not care about pronouns and will be fine with whatever ones are used unless specified otherwise. While not fans of neopronouns ourselves we respect others who are and will attempt to use preferred pronouns, please forgive us if we are not perfect in this regard.

Some of our hobbies include psychology, philosophy, hypnosis, reading, writing, mythology, spirituality, paranormal topics, astronomy, nature, gardening, stage magic, weapons, martial arts, drawing, cooking, and more.

Now that we have discussed a little about ourselves let's get some things straight about this blog and how to interact with it. None of these requests are ironclad and there is plenty of exceptions for each, but that will be decided on a case by case basis.

We do not have a DNI list as we find them limiting and a great way to make echochambers, that being said we reserve the right to block, ignore, and remove anyone who actively gets on our nerves or we find to be unwanted here.

We are not a syscourse blog. We may occasionally reblog or comment on a syscourse topic with appropriate tags for people to ignore if desired, but we are not syscourse focused nor do we want to be. Do not bring syscourse to our blog directly unless it somehow relates directly to us and or we give the ok first in asks.

No fakeclaiming or attempting to bend us to whatever you think we should be. Do not come here without previous context or permission and try to convince us we must be traumagenic, that is for us to investigate the possibility of and it would be done with a trained professional, not tumblr of all things. This rule goes for endos aswell if we ever identify as traumagenic in the future.

We are currently studying to become a psychologist, but we are still very much learning and fallible, do your own research on any topic we discuss and come to your own conclusions using evidence and logic, not more tumblr blogs.

We'd like to stay out of mundane politics on this blog, unless we give permission first, which we have the right to revoke, don't bring it here.

Living together,

So there are already posts about how to create a tulpa, especially a really good one @tulpa-scholastica wrote (I recommend you check it out), but I've not seen many posts about what it is like to actually live with your tulpa.

Not a lot of people put emphasis on what it is like to share your entire mind with another person. Warden, my oldest headmate, has been around for about ten years (,but he wasn't exactly sentient until we indulged in daemonism and later tulpamancy). Upbringing our origin and learning how to separate from one another was a challenging task at first; we did a lot of reading in how to do it, and from most part, I think we succeeded. However, we didn't read into the consequences of it, which is something a tulpamancer should do before they even begin to touch any guides.

Well, what is it like? Warden and I wake up together, we eat breakfast together, head outside together, and even workout together nowadays. But with separation come different interests, such as Warden's expectations of our body that clash with mine, and different tastes.

Nowadays I've noticed making matcha not for myself, but because Warden wants it, or we decide to eat chicken for dinner even if I was really looking forward to eating soup, because Warden and Heather would prefer chicken over it. Separation, for us, was at first just an emotional exercise--forming our own opinions, stances, and making our own friends--with Warden talking to other tulpas more, and me sticking to my real life friends, etc. Now it has consumed our entire life, and there are decisions that aren't made by me, but my tulpas. The thought of this was very frightening at first, because I realized that things were getting real- that the people I made in my head will actually show interest in the real world we live in.

It isn't really like possession or switching, because that isn't something we do often-Warden isn't a fan of being more conscious over me, and Heather isn't fully ready to switch in either. It's this passive influence--Warden's negative feelings about somebody I regularly hang out with and call a best friend bleed into my day, and at times, I find myself sympathizing with people I despise, because Warden likes those people.

On different days, we put on outfits I am not used to, because Warden would like it that way. Every day, I get a little pestered to drink more water or eat more if I forget. But it's all within reason.

We also have physical items that belong to us individually. Warden has a little box of jewelry, Heather has an entire stimtoy box dedicated to her. We plan to make a journal about our crystals, and Warden is already instructing me in tulpish on how to do it.

But it isn't as scary as I make it out to be. Tulpamancy has drastically changed our lives, and I'd say it changed them in a good way. We are like a family together. We plan our days together, we meet new people, we learn how to live as three people in one physical body. Warden gently encourages me to improve my physical health, while Heather looks out for my mental health and assures I don't drive myself crazy. I, on the other hand, help Warden not get frustrated as easily, and I get to see Heather do all the crazy things I would never allow myself to do, and support her all the way.

Tulpamancy is a part of my life now, and I'd not have it any other way.

Tulpa Scholastica is a blog made for and ran by the owner of the Tulpa Scholastica community, a dedicated group of tulpamancers and allies dedicated to sharing knowledge and insights into the wonderous and magical world of Tulpamancy!

Tulpa Scholastica is a project dedicated to approaching tulpamancy in an experimental, formal, and scholarly way through real experience, novel ideas, refined techniques, and scientific appreciation. Tulpamancy is an art, not a science, but there is many mechanisms and phenomena within tulpamancy that can be studied learned about and improved upon. This blog will be a hub of information for tulpamancy guides, insights, commentaries, community writings, and tips and tricks for those interested in the practice.

An additional mission of Tulpa Scholastica is the sharing appreciation and preservation of the tulpamancy community's history and culture. From terminology to major events, unique models and understandings different from the Plural community, Tulpa Scholastica aims to show the tulpamancy community for what it is good and bad, as well as the unique differences it has with sibling communities.

So you want to make a tulpa, alright give me ten minutes and a dream

Hello everyone, my name is Astra of the Candlelight Society. I am a tulpa, and for the last few years I have been working on my techniques for making a tulpa, defining a tulpa, and how to learn all the tricks, secrets, and wonders of tulpamancy. Through all of this I have developed a wonderful community of like minded people and have refined many of my ideas into things I believe are practical and useful.

Due to this I have been working on a guide to tulpamancy and the wonderful mental world that surrounds it and adjacent mental skills. This guide is nowhere near complete however, so instead what I want to do is provide small independent topics of it in posts for others to use and benefit from in the meantime. To begin this process, I want to address the most common question I get: how do I make a tulpa?

This will not cover what a tulpa is, tulpa terminology, or anything elaborative. Below you are going to find the shortest, simplest guide you will ever see on this topic without sacrificing quality, in the form of some basic instruction and an exercise I wish to walk you through.

To begin, you need two things for your tulpa, a form and a personality. A form is how they are going to appear in your minds eye, and this can be absolutely anything. It can be the likeness of a fictional character, an established OC, or something entirely new and unique. All you have to do is figure out what design you think represents what you want them to be best. If you need inspiration, Google images is your friend.

Next you need a personality. To do this think of it like designing a D&D character. I want you to make a mental list of what traits you think would be most important for them to have. These can be brave, energetic, sweet, soft, mischievous, introspective, anything. It may also be useful to think in terms of literary archetypes such as the chivalrous knight or a fem fatale. Collect these traits together and see how they connect to one another in your head, let the shape of a well rounded personality take form.

Once you have the form and the personality, you have the base of your tulpa. This base is what they shall be built upon and shaped by, but it will not be the final verdict. As individuals they may change or grow from these traits in various ways, just like we do as people. More often than not however this base will be a central part of them.

Got all that? Good. That's all that you need. Now if you have read this far, congrats Tiktok hasn't ruined you entirely yet, but also I want to invite you to join an exercise with me. It's simple, easy, and only takes a moment. You'll see why in a second.

I want you to imagine your tulpa, their form standing next to you or sharing any furniture you may be using. Imagine their personality, how they carry themselves, how they act. Imagine them as your tulpa, knowing who they are. Feel their presence. Now I want you to interact with them, it can be in any way but for the sake of this exercise let's use a question. Imagine this question, imagine this question and ask your tulpa about it. Once you have asked this question imagine your tulpas response. Imagine how they would respond to this question as your tulpa, don't force it, don't overanalyze it, just passively let it come into your mind. I want you to take that first clear response that comes naturally and feels right and hold it. Take that question and response and remember it, even feel free to share it on this post.

You have it? Congratulations, you have just spoken with your tulpa.

What you just did was the essence of forcing as Scholastica's style of tulpamancy teaches it. By interacting with your tulpa in this way you begin to build up their autonomy. It may feel like you at first, but don't worry about that. By accepting these responses from your tulpa as real, they become real. The more you interact with your tulpa and get responses back just like you did above, the more they will feel separate from you. Their responses will become faster and smoother, they will feel more distinct and separate from your own identity. Eventually they will be almost entirely independent from you, and your tulpa will be an individual with thoughts, feelings, dreams and memories of their own. From here you simply enjoy and share your life with them. Try and work interacting with your tulpa into your daily routine, the more interactions with you and the world they have the more they will grow.

That's it. That's the guide. It doesn't get any simpler than this. Not without sacrificing effectiveness anyways. No extra material, no deep dives on implications contexts or further technique. This is a tulpamancy creation guide in it's purest form.

The Internet is Not Forever

Okay, so when I went to answer an ask about Tulpamancy by using the 2018 community census, I noticed the main link led to a 404. Then, shortly after, it was brought to our attention that the original Tulpa.io site is also wiped.

Both seemingly being wiped in the past year or so without notice.

I've also noticed several guides vanishing and having to rely on PDF backups. Sites like Tulpa.info have become impossible to search without an account because for some ungodly reason, there is now a full-ass minute timer between EACH search you do on the forum:

Why the fuck??? This is unusable.

Anyway, wayback machine links to both Tulpa.io and the census thankfully existed to use as backups, but I worry for the resources that didn't/don't have that luxury.

This served as a reminder that the internet is not as forever as people say it is, and it's so easy to lose important pieces of history just because some account or site went dark.

Hello, we're a tulpamancy formed system of 17 members, so we think we're pretty well equipped to answer this.

So in general the experiences of a tulpamancer or other created plural system aren't going to be super alien on the surface, but there is some pretty significant differences under the hood for certain topics. We have headmates, we communicate, make connections, have fun, switch, and do other plural things. Probably the biggest difference immediately off rip is that it is all voluntary. For us headmates are created, sometimes accidentally, but the vast majority of the time especially for tulpamancers it is intentional from start to finish. Our communication is clear without any dissociative barriers, the only hurdles are learning to talk in the first place in the development process. Switching is also fully voluntary and is a skill that has to be learned through theory and technique, switches will not happen outside of control unless the system allows that dynamic to develop willingly.

Alongside clear communication and having to learn skills tulpas often have far less relationship issues with the rest of the system for a couple reasons including lack of dissociation but also each member having a clear origin and reason for their being there. Everyone in the system outside of the original has a backstory explaining why they're here, and everyone has clear and understandable incentive to get along. Fights between hosts and tulpas are uncommon and resolved quickly so long as there isn't something else going on inciting it.

For ourselves life is good, we all chat with eachother daily depending on who wants to be active at a given time. We'll switch if someone has an event or hobby planned or is getting exhausted by the physical world. We'll split our money so all of us can enjoy our own interests without breaking the bank, and we enjoy eachothers presences and seeing eachother happy. In dark moments we comfort eachother when nobody else will, and in our greatest moments it's enhanced by sharing it with eachother.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows, like all relationships and dynamics there is real work to be put into it, it's a lifestyle change, one expected to be for a very long (life)time if successfully adopted and enjoyed. But for the majority of tulpamancers and we assume other created plurals, they'll say it was one of the best decisions they ever made.

Happy new year to everyone following our little blog!

2025 was... a year. We weren't very active on this platform and when we were it was mainly on our syscourse side blog. That won't be how it goes this year.

For 2026, we want to effectively retire our syscourse blog outside of major events, and instead focus back on our original purpose of even making a presence on this hellsite: Learning about others experiences with plurality, and teaching about tulpamancy and the actual experiences of the tulpamancy community.

So what does that mean? It means more small guide style posts on tulpamancy related topics. It means updates on personal system projects related to tulpamancy and psychology. It means sharing philosophy, insights and other learnings connected to tulpas, tulpamancy, and the wider web of practices and experiences related to our subculture and practice.

I genuinely am interested in the tulpamancy community. Not… not r/Tulpas (the discount r/Plurals at this point), but the OLD Tulpamancy circles.

I wish often that I could’ve been part of those. I’ve been wanting to learn more about tulpamancy, particularly as someone who has weirdly created parts who most certainly aren’t tulpas. I was to know how tulpas were created.

The current state of r/tulpas is really... not good.

If you want to see the most well preserved looking glass into the past of the tulpamancy community then the tulpa.info forums would be your friend, but it should be noted since nobody else has that it had it's own subculture and ideas those active on the 4chan scene or the early reddit or tumblr (back when tumblr had a real tulpamancy community) might not have shared.

One of the problems with the tulpamancy community being an internet era group is that our history is terribly archived. A lot of it was in discords and such which you can only learn of now via talking to really old members of the community. We have access to some of those people, if you Circ or anyone else reading wants us to pass on a question to one or two of them. A lot of our history is just in the memories of those who came before.

It should also be noted that the old style of the community while changed isn't actually all gone. The problem is that it's locked up tight and fortified inside of mostly tulpamancer and interested singlet only servers which usually begin to lean towards center to right wing culture (not too surprising when you remember our origin history with 4chan).

For a tulpamancy server to remain a tulpamancy server nowadays it has to be 4chan culture derived, and that's kind of sad. There is some other servers too which are mostly still tulpamancy spaces, but you can feel the plural community's influence creeping into them with how they talk and how they think of certain things. It's been quite rough for the reddit side of the tulpamancy community ever since the redditulpas server got nuked. The subreddit is both larger than ever but a shadow of it's past in community cohesion, and the successor discords are all odd and have a laundry list of problems some much longer than others.

Our community is growing larger and larger, but what makes it our community has never felt more precarious as we transition into whatever comes next for our practice.

Potential Red Flag that More than Tulpamancy Is Happening

If you and your tulpa(s) randomly switch (as in neither party consciously initiated it) or experience involuntary switches, that is not normal in Tulpamancy. Switching isn't random or involuntary in Tulpamancy; it's most often a mutual agreement between systemmates and a conscious thing that occurs. Tulpas don't randomly take front without warning or involuntarily in response to certain stimuli.

If you experience random/involuntary switching more than the random freak occurrence, you should look into dissociative disorders because this may be a symptom of something like DID.

Wrath: As the host of the Candlelight Society, I have to say this poll is certainly confusing for me from a tulpamancy approach, as we actually use both of these labels together and see zero disconnect in them. It's one of those interesting cultural differences where the tulpamancy community has brushed into and in so doing borrowed terminology from both the CDD and old Multiplicity spheres, as well as taken quite a few plurality terms. Yet, at the same time, we've remained isolated and independent as a community to the extent where these borrowed terms have taken upon themselves their own implications separate from the CDD or wider Plural community.

In our usual haunts tulpamancy is seen as a practice which causes one to become plural by developing a system of multiple independent autonomous identities. These terms have zero conflict. You call a tulpamancer and their tulpas a system, and that system is (usually) identified as plural.

Before rebranding as the Candlelight Society we were the Candlelight System, and before that the Shadowflame system. We've always used both of these terms and have been comfortable being identified by both of these terms, but these terms have also not carried the baggage either of them carry here on Tumblr.
