I really wish we saw more interactions between master Splinter and Casey in the 2003 series.

I mean the resemblance between the turn of events that made them the way they are is undeniable: They both had their fathers (figure in Splinter's case but still) killed in front of them while being too small and weak to do anything to stop it, both deciding to train and become stronger to make sure something like this ever happens to them again (both scenarios even had Hun front and center).

I mean it's really interesting how despite the almost identical origin stories they turned out so different: master Splinter chooses to really put everything into defense - yeah, he trains his sons to fight but he warns them so much against ever going up to the surface that it's obvious he only means for it to be for self defense, revenge never seems to be something he cares about or wants - even when the opportunity presents itself.

Casey on the other hand goes all out in a "get strong to make them pay" plan, and very recklessly constantly puts himself in harm's way in order to take his trauma out on the purple dragons.

It really is a shame they never really have a conversation about it, especially since the show draws some very clear parallels between them, and I thought master Splinter could really help Casy let go of the past and focus on rebuilding a future the way Splinter did.

Don't get me wrong, angry raph befriending angry human is nice and I appreciate their relationship, I feel like Raphael, who never lost anyone in his life, is a poor choice to preach to Casey about letting go of anger.

I mean your brother making fun of you is not comparable to the trauma Casey lived through...

you can have Raph be the one to relate to the anger issues, but I really think master Splinter should have at some point talked with him as the only one who can really understand some of what he went through, maybe help him find a better way to deal with it, rather than every interaction between them boiling down to " wise master ninja exasperate with/poking fun at dumb clumsy man"...

¡Una pila de Leos! Después de terminar a los Rafas, sentí la necesidad de hacer al líder azul. Fue mi primer husbando animado, antes de saber o entender lo que eso significaba. 

Mis tres preferidos:

1.- 4kids 2k3. Estoico, idealista y el chico bueno. El peso de la responsabilidad -a veces auto impuesta- lo mantiene al límite. Ha visto mucha mierda, lo han engañado y traicionado más de una vez, el mundo se empeña en demostrarle que las cosas no son como él cree y aún así trata de hacer lo que cree que es correcto, sin importar cuánto lo juzguen los demás -o lo aburrido que la gente lo vea-. Siento que tuvo que madurar muy rápido y jamás se le permitió ser un niño.

2.- Rise 2k18. Lo contrario del anterior. Sin la carga de la responsabilidad esta versión puede disfrutar al máximo de su adolescencia, lo que le permite ser un bufón, irreverente y feliz. También ayuda que el mundo en el que vive sea el segundo más relajado de toda la franquicia. 

3.- Nick 2k12. Adorable, medio friki, eficiente pero ignorado. Quiero mucho a este Leo, el único problema que le encuentro tiene nombre -y se llama Karai-. De verdad, si no fuera por su obsesión molestamente enfermiza sería de los mejores personajes de la serie. 

También me gusta mucho el de Mirage -mi pobre niño introvertido-, pero aun no termino los comics como para dar un veredicto. También tengo pendiente los de IDW. 

¿La peor versión? el de Bay. Es un imbécil >:V

I never really liked the old one, it felt kinda clunky and too long, and I only left it as a placeholder until I decide on a better one.

2003 Master Splinter becomes absolutely hilarious when you consider that

I mean he is probably a black rat (although I don’t really think it makes a lot of difference)

Which means that when he ran into the turtles he was at most 12 months old.

He is sixteen years old by the time the series starts. 

This man, who raised a family, gives April (a fully grown adult) life advice, makes horrible dad jokes and loves soap operas is a teenager.

how did you end up liking the ep ?

It was ok... kinda felt like the younger, less developed sibling of the episode in 2003 season 1 where the turtles fight an overwhelming muscular foe in a wrestling cage  & the episode in season 6 where Raph and Leo become wrestling champions kinda by accident so it really just made me wanna re-watch those again tbh =_=‘’

At least we got a heartwarming ending and the fighting between them was refreshingly short & resolved quickly, and I kinda like that they both admitted the other one was at least partly right :)

some thoughts about the 1987 TV series’ Splinter

one of the most interesting things in my opinion about 80′s splinter that separates him from any of the others I’m aware of is his view of the turtles - most noticeably, he doesn’t consider them his sons in any way.

which is actually pretty strange when you consider that not only did he raise them all their lives, but they were literally partly made from his DNA.

he sees them as his students, and is not too concerned with being their guardian - we see this since season 1 in episode 5 "Shredder & Splintered" when Splinter is all too willing to go after the retromutagen gun in order to become a human again despite knowing perfectly well that the same can’t be done for the turtles.

he only destroys the gun when the turtles' lives are on the line since he does actually care about them.

becoming a human again is a constant wish of his the turtles are well aware of to the point that Donatello ends up making a cure for Splinter himself in season 2 episode 9 “Splinter No More”.

seeing as how it’s pretty obvious he would not have gone to all this trouble to change back just to keep living isolated from humanity in the sewers and of course he couldn’t take the turtles to live with him on the surface, it means he was willing to leave 4 fifteen-year-old kids who never had anyone but him to rely on in order to regain his humanity.

I want to make it perfectly clear that I’m not judging him - I have no idea what I would do were I put in the same situation, but I have a feeling he wouldn’t have considered it if they were human children he was leaving behind, however highly trained they are.

80′s Splinter had a surprisingly deep and emotional character arc (in theory. I mean this was a 193-episodes-length commercial for the toys. nobody had an intentionally deep character anything...). he learned to accept his life as a rat with 4 turtles students, eventually rejecting the possibility of becoming human via Donatello’s aforementioned cure.

This Splinter started out human and it shows. 

He cares about April as a fellow human being - the first he got to talk to in years - since the moment the turtle bring her in and never seems suspicious of her even though she is fully capable of ruining his and the turtles’ lives in terrifying ways I’m glad my 5-year-old brain could not imagine. 

He has never considered them his sons and probably never will - it is actually brought into focus in the “turtles forever” movie when they are shocked to hear the 2003 turtles refer to their own Splinter as “father”, but when 2003 Leonardo talks to 80′s Splinter he remarks that even though the settings are very different the place felt like home. 

So while he is unique in his treatment of the turtles and thus doesn’t have a place in my rat dad list (he’d probably be my 2nd favorite instead of 2012 Splinter) he is definitively a great sensei and he has a special place in my heart.

*yeah, I remember the episode where Michelangelo was transformed into a human but it was never mentioned since and master splinter had no way to know about that, especially so early in the series

OK, Leo looks really freaking adorable and all but... 

I feel like I know where this is going and “A character becomes cocky after accidentally winning a prize/competition and has to be reminded of his place/the importance of his family/hard work” is a trope I really really hate - hopefully the show dosen’t go in that direction but I don’t have a lot of hope in that regard...

all in all this episode so far makes me cringe really hard...
