Starlight kingdom AU concept
Okay so this AU I had in mind for a little while now, is so good I just had to share it on here, but hear me out when I say, what if my OC universe was actually a hell disguised in someway? Of course this is mainly inspired by Dante's Inferno, which I am really only a little knowledgeable on, but I plan to actually study wtf goes down in it bc this AU is inspired on the ideas of the poem. Also I'm not a good writer so forgive me if it seems like there's a lot of loop holes and inconsistencies.
Now I won't get too deep into world building bc I wanna focus on the characters I ended up using, which was the Cosmic Court, again as I've probably mentioned before, they're a group of divine-like beings in Starlight kingdom, the council if you will. I like to think they're the ones who decide where a soul will end up in the different "layers" of Starlight kingdom, just know this place is initially like a floating island in the stars above, but yk not important rn.
Ofc I haven't fully decided on who would be representing what layer, but so far I've only gotten the ideas for a few of them. Now quick disclaimer, all ocs in this AU are 18 and above, which includes two members of the Cosmic Court who in canon Starlight kingdom are both children. In this AU they will both be adults. (Please note that I do not know much about the layers, but will try my best to get a grasp of them. I'm only writing about the ocs who would represent these layers)
Layer 1: Limbo
The first layer in Starlight kingdom would likely be run by Alice Rose, an angel-like being, since the first layer in Dante's inferno is said to be a sort of deficient version of heaven (if I'm correct, bc again not too knowledgeable about the poem) it seems fitting that an angel-like being would be the one to represent Limbo, so I've placed Alice here. She has a demon sibling, but we'll talk about him in a bit.
Layer 2: Lust
Astrophel/Astro would probably run layer 2, again not set in stone. Though. They're not too connected to this layer by any means if you ask me, but I'm basing them being the representative of lust because of Minos in the poem who judges sinners in this layer. Which in Starlight kingdom's main canon, Astro is considered one of the higher ranking members in the court due to their abilities.
Layer 3: Gluttony
Likely run by Star zoomer, Astrophel's little sibling. Now gluttony isn't just about over-eating, it's basically about over-indulgence. I'm not super knowledgeable on this layer yet, or at least in it's general concept, but when I do get more knowledgeable I will update this part.
Layer 4: Greed
Layer 4 is going to likely be represented by one of my oldest ocs in the Cosmic Court, Clover. A typically generous (and likely wealthy) woman who well, likely looks down on the sinners of this layer, and being the one in charge of this layer in this version of Starlight kingdom, she generously gives away her wealth to these sinners (I'm going to derive from the punishment given to greedy sinners in the poem) which weighs them down to a painful degree.
Layer 5: Wrath
Okay NOW we get to talk about Alice Rose's brother, Rue Thorn. I think this one makes a little bit of sense, as I said earlier he's a demon, but that's not the point. In his canon personality, he's relatively calm most of the time. It wouldn't be a stretch to say he'd probably oversee sinners in this layer and actively let them fight it out only because he knows they did this to themselves. He's not an enraged person by any means, unless it's towards the other members of the court or his family. (I'm surprised he has enough patience to deal with wrathful bastards though.)
Layer 6: Heresy
SP4-RK2, the battle android... Running the layer of heresy. I think we're starting to get the ironic layers. SP4-RK2, has always been a rule breaker, and most people tend to associate the word "heresy" as basically going against religious rules. I think I don't need to explain much here do I?
Layer 7: Violence
Lynx Little, okay I think I can go most in depth here since the reason I put Lynx as the representative/overseer of layer 7 is because of their character story. They are a pretty vengeful person. Their story literally had them learn to fight and reach the top of the hierarchy just so they wouldn't feel scared of anyone anymore, they wanted to feel what being respected was like. By the end of their story their blinding rage is shattered and they come to the realization they'd just left so much unnecessary bloodshed in their wake. If I'm correct layer 7 is divided into three rings, violence against others, violence against one's self, and then violence against god. To which Lynx has technically done all three.
Layer 8: Fraud
The overseer of layer 8 is Kei, okay I know this doesn't make sense to some, but here's the thing. Kei in both of their story canons (13 Cards Kei and main Starlight Kingdom Kei) both have to deceive in some way. They had to deceive just so others would not ostracize them. There are numerous types of frauds, but having someone who IS a bit of a fraud themselves run this layer is irony at it's finest.
Layer 9: Treachery
We finally reach the bottom,,, kind of. Here we have the overseer of layer 9, Mx. Shooting star, or my sona aka Sparky. I put them into the very last layer because it just made so much sense. The exact definition of treachery is, "the deliberate betrayal of trust, faith, or loyalty. Often involving deceit or trickery." Now for the people do know what Sparky is why it's so ironic they're the representative of this layer, is because they're a false angel. My version of false angels are cannibalistic, but in actuality they are not. Keep in mind, in canon they are an idol, and at some point used their supposedly kind demeanor to get what they wanted, which meant betraying the trust of many. This includes people they were once friends with (though now in the main canon, current day they've given up on deceiving people and then betraying them.)
Extras
So my friend who was helping me with this AU a little, is to sort of try to incorporate a system similar to the Buddhist reincarnation cycle where you can only reincarnate/be reborn if your soul has been cleansed. if you're not cleansed you get sent back to the start to do it all over again and essentially you need to redo every trial to be cleansed of all your sins, but I'm not sure how i'd even incorporate this idea into this AU, and I don't wanna accidentally do something wrong with this idea so I've left it in the extras as something to consider for this AU
Conclusion
So that was the full AU, and the character explanations..... I know I might have not done it very well, but please feel free to put your own input on this AU, since it's one of the most interesting one's I've conceptualized in a long time. As you can tell, it is HEAVILY inspired by Dante's inferno and a few other ideas I wanted to throw in.
