Disney Meme: ten friendships [1/10] Baloo and Bagheera (The Jungle Book)
Well, come on, Baggy, buddy. Let’s get back to where we belong and get with the beat!
*Peeks into Baloo’s cave* you alive?
*organ cover of Bear Necessities softly drones*

* watership down
watership down is a novel by richard adams.
‘ by yourself, alone? ’
‘ you can’t. you’d die. ’
‘ i’ll look after you. ’
‘ i think that’s something we can only wait for. ’
‘ what do you think of that? ’
‘ you need a rest. ’
‘ i’ll tell you all about it later on. ’
‘ you hurt? ’
‘ they didn’t want to disturb you. ’
‘ just let me look after you for a bit. ’
‘ are you all right? ’
‘ how did you get that wound? ’
‘ can you hear me? ’
‘ i don’t blame you. ’
‘ you haven’t got to. ’
‘ if you are not careful, people will begin to trust you. ’
‘ i can’t trust anyone else, but you’ll come with me, won’t you? ’
‘ can we trust you? ’
‘ i don’t like this story. i know i’m not brave – ’
‘ let me go! let me go! ’
‘ why did you cry like that, if you were all right? ’
‘ you’re all alone, sharp and clear, like a dead branch against the sky. ’
‘ come down there: we can talk more easily. ’
‘ you can see the whole world. ’
‘ the funny thing is that you feel terrified to stay and i feel terrified to go. ’
‘ there’s nothing to be afraid of. ’
‘ there’s nothing to worry about. ’
‘ i don’t want to go. ’
‘ i feel very sad. ’
‘ he seems quite at home with you. ’
‘ where do you come from? ’
‘ does the thunder worry you? ’
‘ are you sure? ’
‘ and if that’s not meeting your fears halfway, then i don’t know what is. ’
‘ why can’t we go home? ’
‘ do you really think we will? ’
‘ what’s your idea, then? ’
‘ why’s he called that? ’
‘ he’ll remember that. ’
‘ that is the test of your belief. ’
‘ well, i thought, this sounds hopeful. ’
‘ couldn’t wake him up. ’
‘ how can we find them? ’
‘ are you trying to make me angry? ’
‘ how can we find them? ’
‘ do you know he was out all night in the rain? ’
‘ can we go back to sleep now? ’
‘ we can’t fight them. ’
‘ let’s hear the rest of the story. ’
‘ i hope you understand. ’
‘ have a look outside and you’ll see why. ’
‘ i’m not going to get angry because you call me stupid names. ’
‘ what’s the alternative? ’
‘ it doesn’t matter where. ’
‘ just you and i? ’
‘ but what else is there to hope for? ’
‘ it’s all forgotten. ’
‘ then all the rest follows. ’
‘ it’s no good. ’
‘ run! ’
‘ piss off! ’
‘ bad place. ’
‘ yes, yes, all friends. ’
‘ i don’t know what it is. ’
‘ you can hide there and i’ll join you. ’
‘ come on, hurry up. ’
‘ they’re all mad, you know. ’
‘ blame you? blame you for what? ’
‘ unless you feel it isn’t safe? ’
‘ no, it’s safe enough. ’
‘ it must be something very bad. ’
‘ we’ve all got to stop running one day, you know. ’
Welp... Just saw The Lion King. Expect me to be active again now.

Do you have a preference for either Disney's or Kipling's Baloo? Is there one that comes easier for you to write?
Disney’s Baloo without a doubt comes more naturally to me because I already basically talk like him in real life. I also grew up around a TON of guys like Ed Harris (good ol’ midwest boys who barely care about anything). The 2016 Baloo is a pinch harder to get into despite me finding him more interesting than the cartoon version. So when I do get into 2016 Baloo it’s really rewarding because he’s perhaps my favorite version of the character.
All that praise for Disney’s versions said - I absolutely love Kipling’s Baloo. He’s the one who takes the most to get into just because of how intelligently Kipling wrote the character. That being said, I can sometimes get into his vibe pretty easy because I absolutely LOVE LORD OF THE RINGS. How is that connected? Well. Kipling Baloo is pretty much just a bear Gandalf.

when i created this account: Probably around late 2014 or so??? I played Baloo on a Disney ask blog for a long while and went from that to this.
why i created this account: I relate to Disney’s Baloo so damn much. I’m an eternal optimist and that mindset seems to only grow with age. The world that Kipling made and which Disney adapted both appeal to me just so much because of my love of deep lore AND an even deeper love for the natural splendor of our planet’s less touched sections.
Keep peace with the Lords of the Jungle
— the TIGER, the Panther, and BEAR.
And trouble not Hathi the Silent,
and mock not the Boar in his lair.

Catching a glimpse of his good friend was reason enough for Bagheera to break from his current path. Arriving in the clearing and joining the bear, he sat back on his haunches atop the natural platform of jungle plants. The comment delivered at his appearance caused for the panther to roll his eyes good-naturedly. “I would certainly hope not. Even if it were, I doubt it would hardly matter. You are my friend after all, hm? Hardly someone I should find reason to be wary of.” He reasoned. Despite his refined and strict composure, he couldn’t help but smile. A chuckle was soon to follow as he glanced at Baloo from his perch.
"And how are you today, Baloo? It’s good to see you.”
“Not half bad, Baggy! Not half bad at all.” He jutted a clawed thumb back behind him as he continued, “Mowgli and his whole gang seem in dandy spirits. Where you been off to?”
