Acropora

A small polyp stony coral, Acropora is mainly found in the Indian Ocean and parts of the Pacific Ocean, although there are three species known in the Atlantic and Caribbean areas. This branching coral is highly sensitive and also very beautiful as it comes in a variety of colors and shapes.

Many people see coral as nothing but rocks when in fact they are animals, very alive with hundreds or even thousands of polyps that extend out to catch food that passes by. Inside corals are zooxanthellae which have a symbiotic relationship with the coral, helping to feed it while the coral houses and protects the zooxanthellae.
