Maybe it's dumb but like- I love to think about the fact that Logan is Sparrow's son. That before he went mad, he was cherished, and his whole life he was someone's baby. It's so bittersweet

Can you imagine how terrifying it must have been to fight Sparrow, especially before they were well known? No one has seen a Hero in years, no one would know what to expect. Imagine you're a bandit and you just jumped some grubby traveller on the road. But it's almost impossible to get a hit on them. When you do, it doesn't seem to phase them. Slice them, stab them, shoot them repeatedly... they just keep coming. They won't go down. What's that animal with them? Looks like a dog but you've never seen one on real life so- oh my god it's mauling you. This was supposed to be easy. They were outnumbered! There were 8 other bandits with you, but every time you look, another one is dead. Oh, and now they're shooting lightning at you. What the hell

Been toying with the idea of Heroes as a sort of natural response to world threatening events. When things get particularly bad for Albion, an exceptionally strong Hero emerges. It's part of the mechanics of the universe. The first Hero emerged to combat The Court. The Hero of Oakvale was there to fight Jack when he returned. The Hero of Bowerstone is meant to stop Lucien from damaging the world with The Spire. The Hero of Brightwall is there to fight the Crawler. The Corruption is coming, and Gabriel, despite not having Heroic blood, is imbued with the same power. Sort of like in the Legendary Godzillaverse movies, where the monsters keep eachother/the ecosystem in check.

I really feel like Sparrow losing 10 years to the Spire irreversibly shaped them going forward, and they really do live life like an ex-convict.

Losing so many people due to coming back home changed, not being able to adjust, and never being able to return to the person you once were are all obvious--but Ex-cons have stated that after getting out of a controlled environment, and returning to a world where they have freedom again, they end up overcompensating.

Atonement for their actions, catching up with the world, indulging in things they longed for in confinement... it feels like a must--an obligation--and we already know that Sparrow has a complicated relationship with duty.

But all those achievements? All the heroics? Taking Albion's future in their hands as a ruler? It's likely an internal struggle to make up for all that was lost (especially if their wish was to save all the other lives the spire took).

But here's the thing... it never feels like enough. They're always going to be weighed down by the guilt, shame, and loss of agency. What time you have left is going to feel so precious, and they can't fuck it up. Life spent in the past is life wasted. They didn't stop moving forward when Rose died, and they didn't stop after losing everything else.

If they "fail", they fall apart... and that's not something they feel they can afford, knowing what it cost them before. So... they keep doing things. Keep building, keep their hands busy, and keep telling them self to live up to every promise they made. It's the only way they know how to live.

They must be the hero Albion needs. They must ensure its future. When Theresa tells them their kid is a part of that legacy, it feels like another obligation.

It's tragic, I think, that they probably never broke out of that mentality.

sparrow and reaver 100% accidentally became best friends during those 50-some years between fable 2 and fable 3

Like yeah sure, there's some murder attempts, genuine contempt, and spite thrown in there, but is there anyone else out there that quite gets them? Not really. No one else can match a hero's pride like another's.

-But there comes a certain point when you realize "oh my god... the only 1-on-1 wine drunk conversations I've actually enjoyed these past decades has been with that dickhead", and then you bash your head on the table

You know how Sparrow was trapped on a secret island prison for 10 years of their life?

Then in Fable III we learn Sparrow built their own secret island prison to lock up their enemies. Dude?!

#This is one more thing that supports my headcanon that Sparrow was some flavor of evil #even if they weren't an outright villain #I mean Fable 3 takes place 50 years after Fable 2 #For Logan and the HoBW to be their respective assumed ages Sparrow (who is at youngest 28 at the end of Fable 2) would've been fairly old-#-When Logan and HoBW were born #(Not IMPOSSIBLE especially if M!Sparrow)#HOWEVER the age Sparrow must've canonically reached comes close to confirming that Sparrow did NOT sacrifice their own youth-#-To the Shadow Court #There's also NO remnant of the Temple of Light as far as I'm aware in Fable 3; implying Sparrow either did not protect it or actively-#-destroyed it #And even WITH Sparrow retaining their youth they'd still be fairly old to be having children at the time Logan and HoBW were born #Which supports my hypothesis that Sparrow may have had their own dark deal like Reaver #But I actually LOVE the implication that Sparrow wasn't a good person #as Monarchies do not tend to be GOOD things #And canonically Sparrow rose to power purely by buying up most of Albion and putting it under their thumb #But Sparrow's reign was considered a good thing #SO it's likely that Sparrow seemed to maintain a neutrality by doing a lot of SUPER good things AND super evil things

it's objectively hilarious that the people who saved albion from destruction consisted of:

Two very tired senior citizens who could've gotten this done yesterday if they didn't need to babysit

Someone who's been living off of nothing but sexually-charged power plays and wine, who has way too much time to kill

A well adjusted grown woman who just got her 5 year anger management chip

And a very angry 30 year old who hasn't showed in anything but blood and miscellaneous bodies of water for years

Do I still read Reaver's Diary and The Life and Adventures of Benjamin Finn every time I come across them, hanging on to and obsessing over their every word like its the first time I'm hearing them, every time??
