Its been five years of it’s august and the flow of time still haunts me

hey y’all! i hope you’ve been having a lovely august so far ☀️ i have a couple of quick updates to share- i got word from etsy earlier this week that i need to “verify my identity” by providing an ID in order to keep selling with them, even though i already did that when i opened my account. unfortunately for me, my state ID (i don’t drive due to medical reasons) is expired, and etsy won’t accept it as a valid ID. i only had a 7-day notice that this was happening, and i learned about it as i was on my way to to my one and only vacation of the year 🙃 which means i haven’t been able to renew my ID, since i’ve been out of town and don’t have the documentation on hand that i need.

i’m going to try to get to the dmv this weekend to update my ID before etsy shuts off my payments in 3 days, but there’s a chance they won’t accept my temporary ID as valid and i’ll lose access to my income regardless. if that happens, i’ll keep my etsy shop open for now since it would be a huge hassle to move all 40+ listings to a new shop, but i may move my earring preorder listings over to ko-fi so i have a chance to make some kind of income while i get this mess sorted out. i also may start listing new pieces on there if it takes more than a few days for me to get my etsy payments back.

if you’re waiting on an earring preorder from me, don’t worry, this won’t affect your order since it’s already been paid for! my next batch of made-to-order earrings will be going out early next week without any delays. ❤️

in the meantime, my end of summer sale is still happening on my etsy, and i have a day or two left of actually being able to access my funds. so if you’d like to snag something in the next couple of days, it would be much appreciated! i’ll keep you updated on when/if i start switching things over to ko-fi. thanks as always 🫶

in spite of my best efforts (including braving the DMV on a saturday), etsy preemptively shut down my shop when i tried to verify my identity. i don’t know how long this will last or what to do next. my etsy shop provides most of my income and i’m not sure how i’m going to get through this financially. i’m going to reach out to etsy support and move some of my listings to my ko-fi page, i’ll let you all know when that happens as i’m still trying to get my bearings and figure out how to fix this :( i currently have pet portrait commissions open on my ko-fi, i’ll make a separate post about them later when i’m not quite so overwhelmed

Couldn't run my ceramics class in the classroom at work because a pipe burst and there's water damage. Couldn't run it in the nature center because it caught fire and there's fire damage. Can't even get to the kiln in the garage because it's full of all the things we had to move out of the other two buildings. Did the class outside in 90 degree weather and gave freezer pops to the participants.

i know i encourage people to learn tree ID and bird ID and love the world around them but the one thing i never warn ppl about is how dramatically it narrows your suspension of belief when you’re watching a tv show filmed thousands of miles from where it’s supposed to take place.

was going bananas watching a show set in Oregon but they didn’t edit out a constant chorus of eastern pheobes in the background, but i persevered. bc one i don’t care THAT much and 2 it’s kinda a fun part of the je ne sais quoi especially if the show sort of sucks

but i do have my limits and when i was watching a show set in northern Ohio, filmed in BC I actually quit it permanently when the characters walked into a stand of coastal douglas firs.

frustrated further when i complained about this and someone from the PNW was like “yeah Ohio is so flat and nothing that was too obvious.”

☝️northern Ohio sits on one of the great lakes and was once home to one of the largest wetlands/swamps on the continent. colonial agriculture devastated it but its remnants have persevered. my issue was not that BC was too beautiful to be Ohio. It’s that Ohio’s beauty was not showcased.
