She's been experimenting with wandless magic again today. So far, so good.

"Miles Davis…Good on you."  Vil marveled not at his usual ability to bait a subject, but rather at the series of contrasts that had ensued in the witch’s winding character. The true experiment had yet to take place and yet here she was bearing a development in sociological contrast he had very little probability for. She hid in these dark and luring woods for the greater days of her life and yet, a reference to something so modern… not to mention her formerly unwavering conservatism and it’s momentary disruption thereof.  He could tell fullwell that her remarks on history were still tailored to her own augmented stances of self-superiority still, clearly viewing herself as an innovator among the magically inclined for all of her hatred. But in truth, not only was she just that, as the readings foretold… but a slight spark of the genuine crept into her expression when she spoke of learning to grow. Ever so slight only someone so perceptive would even acknowledge it.  "And you will find, my new colleague, that innovation is the very nature of my career since I embarked it so long ago. If I could seek your respect on no other front, than I could seek it there in the knowledge of our mutual revelation… that I have met so few like you, and know you soon will see you have met none like me."

"There are no others like me, sir." She replied, her smirk widening just a touch at the thought.

There was something oddly intriguing about this Muggle, something that Lady Banister couldn't put a finger on but that she wanted to explore.

She wanted to figure out what made this man tick.

And then figure out a way to not only bring him into the Valkyries, but his... Technology as well.

"And it seems that you have made the decision for me for us to become colleagues. Normally I would not... Allow such a thing, but in this instance? Consider me intrigued enough to tentatively accept."

"You will have your pick, it suits me to say."  He might’ve reviled the idea of the zealous witch within any proximity of his life’s work, perhaps many years ago, even visually. But professionalism stood the test of time with the Hourly, and holding one’s own before the most revolting of characters over so many years had been only one of his saving graces. "I am more than a scientist. For as long as I have been, among the many things I am and the skills I have accrued, I am an accomplished archaeologist, with of course, a particular brandish for the exceptionally occult…" A brief flash of his many excavations came before his eyes, as well as the feeling of his own bare hands and all the wondrous objects that had graced them; the knowledge seeming always to pour right through his fingertips and into his mind when the darkest secrets of history were unearthed and collected in the name of the Ward.  "As such, the world’s foremost vast collection of tomes, treasures, artifacts and eons more would be yours to… consider. Make no mistake, I part with no one thing until I’ve properly yielded all that I can yield from a marvel such as yourself, and a there are those of my collection which are not meant for any other’s eyes… but you might see what I have to offer, and in no simpler words, understand the true weight of history as even someone of your years has not seen before… and if history cannot catch your eye… then their power might fare the better."

She refused to let the hunger that his offer inspired show in her eyes, though she was practically salivating at the idea of getting her hands on some of the things that this Muggle potentially had to offer.

He seemed to know exactly what she wanted and was willing to tease just enough to tempt her without actually making any hard bargains.

"I've always thought it best to... Learn from History, sir. Whether that of my own or others. We must learn to grow, do we not?"

She crossed her arms over her chest, gently tapping her finger against the shaft of her wand as she quirked an eyebrow upwards, meeting his gaze as a hint of a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.

"How does the saying go? First you imitate, and then you innovate?"

"Desire is immaterial. I desire what our relationship will yield long-term for my empire… but the truth?"  Stagnant and standing tall for a human before a witch, the Hourly settled into the familiar and fearsome coldness that was sometimes impossible to keep under wraps; particularly in situations where the truth of character held more weight.  "As to why I would sully to associate with beings like yourself… I was born by beings such as yourself. Grew in my adolescence under their influence until I was able to understand  the difference between them and I, and cut them loose before I had to waste another year of my childhood in their stew… but in my time, I’ve learned that maleficence is perennial with the nature of our world. And just the same as I took all I could from them before they were of no use to me, so long as the detractors of this world pose an importance to my practice, to my evolution, then they will be permitted."  "I want to work with you," he said stepping forward, "because it is the professional thing to do for the benefit of my career. We will have a business relationship, perhaps not of respect, and never of absolute trust, but of professionalism. Because personal inclinations and biases have no. Place. In. My. World."

She titled her head slightly to the side at his words, her eyes widening a fraction as the coldness swept through his frame and into his eyes even as she felt her own coldness deepen a touch as his words carried on.

"You have said how a working relationship would be beneficial to you, and yet..." she paused, her spine stiffening a touch as she watched him pocket the devices she had so ruthlessly pulled out and off of him.

"...I can't help but wonder how this... Relationship could be at all beneficial to me. What can you offer me that I can not already get for myself?"

His focus remained in tact despite the itchy little scabs upon his skins particulars.  "Why? Where to begin, milady… For one, as a renowned being yourself, surely after this encounter what little contact you share with your underworld will be spent conspiring against me as well as learning of me… You will no longer be surprised to hear that I have already researched and prepared for you however, of course."  Vil stepped closer to the witch than he would’ve cared to do, his eyes on the magical-sphere in her hands as it contained his preferred machinations in suspension.  "That device, that little focal point of your ever-expanding contempt for me, is but one of 100,426 devices in its mystical category alone. Your years might seem to dwarf mine, but my experience speaks for itself not solely in the beings you will meet who know me….  …but in those you will not meet, because they chose to oppose me.” His eyes locked hers without aggression, despite his tone, for the man had to keep his wits about him as to not buy his own press. 

"This is not for your confusion, however. I wage no war with you as you have not with I. I convey oppose in a strict sense; I hold no contempt for those who will not work with someone of my disposition, but I hold no quarter for those who attempt to cause me harm… as do they hold no hope of success. This device’s unique engine, as you will come to find, is privy to associates… a title I would prefer for you to embrace. But the choice is yours… assuming you can sleep with the idea of my technology remaining very much a part of this world. I am no passing fad. I am an institution just as you. And a relationship is only natural."

She briefly tried tugging the little device apart with her magic, though wasn't entirely surprised when nothing happened. She could've used something stronger, but didn't want to risk damaging what she suspected was inside.

"Why me?" she murmured after a moment before carefully dropping the shield she had around his objects and slowly floating them back to him.

"Knowing now what you know of me, knowing that I... Stand for everything that you hold in contempt, why would you still want to form a relationship with me?"

The Hourly grimaced at the knowledge of his own anatomy, and the extra hour it would take at a later night to properly reinstall the Stitch into him. Disregarding an easily replaceable but all too necessary defensive measure, however, his attention remained with the witch’s curiosity, seeming as if he had peaked it more properly than previously thought.  "How- again- is a matter of trust. You will not find it so easy to pluck apart as you have my minor accessory defenses… Trust is the bridge over the deep-waters of contempt, milady… Where I cannot have appreciation, as I clearly cannot have from you yet, I still require trust and respect for a working relationship."

She turned just enough to focus her eyes on him, an eyebrow quirking upwards at his words.

"You assume that you and I will have a working relationship? Why is that? I have no use for you and can see no reason why you would have a use for me?"

She readjusted her gaze back to the device in question, her eyes narrowing slightly as she reached out a hand to lightly stroke a single finger along it's side, feeling the magic surge against her skin for a moment before she pulled away again.

"The object within was found, wasn't it?"

The probabilities of hazard had come to a bloody swell, both figuratively and literally. The veins of his wrists bleed openly into his sleeves, and the same of 18 other key veins scattered across his body.

She might not have been aiming directly for the vascular-neural Quarantine Defenses *codename: Stitch* but her sorcery was specific enough that it came apart piece by piece anyhow, all of its armaments accompanying; the wrist-mounted gauntlets and scalpels, the electro-static thimbles, a laundry-list of accessories that left him fortunate for his only constant contingencies of the King’s Collar device and it’s spinal-base interface.  The last-resort Collar remained inactive beneath the skin of his neck though, while the Hourly maintained the best grace he could while bleeding into the sleeves of his suit; ruby nectar dripping through the tears that the witch had formed. Ignoring the wish for the morphine-pricks stashed in his currently floating gauntlets, accompanying the full-body defenses in the Witch’s force-bubble, he focused his best and responded.  "It is an innovation of mine, merely a prototype… The science of it eludes you. Understand that this is not among the armory to directly interface with magic… this is a duplication, siphoning the residual energies of sorcery… A synthesis of my own design that I have not revealed to my empire’s relations… so fret not for that fact. But the rest of it’s machinations… that knowledge must be earned by trust."

"Trust is almost as foolish of an endeavor as love..." she murmured, almost to herself, her eyes narrowing a touch as she contemplated his 'prototype.'

Lifting a hand and absently waving her fingers at the man, she heard his small sigh of relief as his skin carefully knitted back together from where she'd ripped his machinations out of his skin.

She hated the smell of blood.

"This... Innovation of yours. There's something quite old about it. As if... But how?"

Darwin… You are their very reincarnation. 

Vil was made of stone in that moment. He had to be. The witch’s mention of Darwin, matched with the genuine tone of hers, undeniable, told him all that he needed to know. Her pureblood mentality had carried her to the very brink, to the very same mentality of those that had raised the Hourly. The people he reviled with every atom of his being, even after a lifetime spent learning from their example and reaping what they had to sew. 

Holding his expression against the barracks of his own hatred, he decided best to lead by example. Reaching into his own vest, his hand wrapped evenly around the Mozart’s Flute prototype, it’s space-age polymer cold to the touch of his printless fingertips.

"To cite Darwin is indicative of your true lack of understanding in this world…Survival occurs on a microscopic level, my lady… Every millisecond, microbes fight to climb atop one another until, innately, a cooperation is achieved and the natural course thrives on… with or without the biggest, toughest microbe."  The device would immediately give off an aura to the seasoned witch, though a humble, narrowed semi-stick that seemed un-auspicious. It wirred to life in his hands as his eyes spied a tree-limb not but 20 feet from the two of them. "You see, Darwin’s concept, misinterpreted throughout the ages by beings such as yourself to excuse such crimes against humanity, is a relative concept like any other… such as strength is relative to definition…" The Hourly showed no moment’s pause before holding the device to his mouth, as his words lit the little thing with a deep-red glow. "Bombardo-Maxima." After his words, the Hourly straightened his arm with speed in aiming for the tree-limb, watching the red-pulse erupt from the base to the tip and clearing the distance… shattering the tree-limb, and the left half of it’s trunk, into splinters. "Oh… to answer, I am a scholar of… everything. And I have learned much."

She threw up a defensive shield the second she realized what words he was forming, an angry snarl crossing her features at the impudence of this... inferior Muggle man.

"You have learned nothing!" She growled." You say the words and yet you do not feel the magic! You bastardize the purest form of energy and twist it in order to prove a point, and yet you don't even realize that what you have done is tantamount to assault!"

With a complicated twist of her wrist, she stripped him of everything, the objects that he kept to close to him suddenly floating about her within her shield so she could inspect them closer, leaving him absolutely starkers though she honestly couldn't care less.

She was still snarling a bit as she motioned the strange stick he had used towards her, careful not to touch it as it slowly rotated before her. It wasn't a wand - that much was clear - but it somehow was capable of tapping magical energy and giving a non-magic person the ability to cast.

"What is this?"

"And just like the others I’ve met, you defend prejudice with rhetoric… it is not enough."  Stoic now, the playful grin submerged beneath a concrete mask of a face, the Hourly tilted his eyes gently to the witch who now stood so close to him. His mechanations lay tucked beneath his sleeves, any other situation would have his fingers at the ready, but regardless of any end to each calculation of conflict with this unique subject, a conflict would reap nothing…Some were worth this. She was one of them.  With a gritted tooth hidden behind his lips at the woman who reminded him all too keenly of those horrid men from years ago, the Hourly maintained professionalism as he spoke. “But only children pick fights without purpose… I’m here as a scholar and a pioneer. Surely even you can respect that…

"What you call prejudice, I call necessary for evolution. Only the strong shall survive. Isn't that what your Darwin stated?"

She kept her own grin formal and polite, sensing that there was far more to this man than meets the eye, though there was still a hint of surprise in her acid-green eyes that this mere Muggle had even been able to track his way through her land - that his technology hadn't already failed from the magic that was so deeply steeped around her home.

"Out of respectful curiosity, I must ask: what exactly are you a scholar of, sir, that gives you the ability to wander here where most men fear to even gaze upon?"

"That Pureblood agenda, ever-present I see."  The Hourly held still before a mild tilt of his neck, remaining stalwart even with the witch’s proximity and not-so-mild predatory instincts reflected in her wand.  "Such a conceit against your own kind could mean your end by their hand well before any of my variety are duly pressed… and I do mean your own kind. I have experience with those who thought themselves the Ubermensch of their own…and a war proved them wrong. I proved them wrong. No such hostility lasts, for with your own skills, my skills grow perennial. For I have spent my life studying the superior…and the term is relative.”

"Conceit against my own kind?" She laughed, crossing her arms over her chest. "I have nothing against those who are truly of my kind."

She ghosted over to stand before him, her voice dropping to a warm murmur as a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

"It is the false ones that I wish to eradicate. Those who don't know what it means to have their blood sing when they cast a spell or hear the songs of the cosmos when they gaze up at the stars..."

"Well pride does come before the fall, so whomever would fell you might have that in mind." 

"The Earth? A spherical dynamo of organic material that we both inhabit, of infinite possibilities. My very career reconciles your kind to the same possibilities us Muggles embrace…And for the record, dearest Morgana would not be so proud to see you in such doubtful sorts."

"Many have tried to fell me, sir." She replied, her back straightening and her smile turning into something a touch more dangerous. "And none have succeeded."

"As for Morgana," she went on, "Her opinion would be of little concern to me. I have far more interests in... Keeping the bloodlines pure than I do the opinions of those who lived hundreds of years ago."
