This is a legitimate question: Can I use a staff rather than a wand?
Iâve never been particularly drawn to wands, but I do really love staffs and feel much more drawn and comfortable with them.
Does it even actually matter?

This is a legitimate question: Can I use a staff rather than a wand?
Iâve never been particularly drawn to wands, but I do really love staffs and feel much more drawn and comfortable with them.
Does it even actually matter?
Being someone who deals with mental illness and is also a lover of Tarot, I often find that sometimes large Tarot spreads can be a bit overwhelming, especially during days when I am already dealing with a lot. Even though I like to use smaller Tarot spreads most of the time, I still find value in larger Tarot spreads and still utilize them in my divination practice. What I found that works for me is something I call Spread Stretching. It has helped me to not only continue using large Tarot spreads in my practice but also allows me to do so in such a way where I am not bombarded or overwhelmed by a large number of cards and spread positions laid out in front of me.
So what is Spread Stretching? Spread Stretching is a technique I use to âstretchâ out the reading process of larger spreads in smaller chunks that are easier for me to manage in one sitting, instead of trying to interpret a lot of cards and spread positions all at once. I like to work out my interpretations of a large Tarot spread in a series of hours or days. I like to do this many different ways. For example, if a spread is seven positions long, I might break the spread up into a series of seven days, one spread position for each day. If a spread is twelve positions long I might break up the spread to three positions a day for four days.
Spread Stretching Technique One: I shuffle my deck and lay out the cards for the large spread. I focus on one position of the spread for that single day and write any interpretations in my Tarot journal. I will then start with the second position the following day and the third the day after that and so on and so forth until I have completed the spread. I will then take an extra day to summarize my reading as a whole before I close it out.
Spread Stretching Technique Two: I shuffle my deck and lay out the cards face down. Each day I turn over a new card, revealing the message of that position and focus on that card while writing my interpretations in my Tarot journal. Every day I turn over a new card and interpret. I also find that during these reveals, I like to relate the previous card or cards to the current card I am working with that day. I again like to spend an extra day after the whole spread is completed to summarize the spread as a whole.
Spread Stretching Technique Three: I shuffle my deck and pull the cards for the large Tarot spread. I write in my Tarot Journal the spread, its positions and the cards pulled, as well as one keyword that jumps out to me, first impression or small sentence for each card. I will tackle each card one day at a time, and expand on my initial interpretation, first impression or keyword until the spread is finished in X amount of days.
Spread Stretching Technique Four: I shuffle my deck each day, drawing one new card and interpreting it until the spread is complete. I write my interpretations in my Tarot journal.
Spread Stretching Technique Five: I use my favorite Tarot mobile app on my phone or tablet and utilize either the card of the day feature or do a one card reading from the app and use that card. I do this each day until the spread is completed.
Spread Stretching Technique Six: This is what I call Spread Stretching with friends. For large spreads, I usually try and split the amount of cards up with friends and we each interpret the spread together. So for example, if the Tarot spread is eight positions long, and it is four of us, each of us will interpret two cards and will come together to interpret the spread as a whole either in person or through email or Tumblr chat.
Spread Stretching Technique Seven: I like to call this Spread Stretching With The Tarot Community. Because so many of us share card of the day posts, what I like to do is use various card of the day pulls on social media to make up the cards of a large spread. It is such a fun and interactive way to stretch a spread and view a different opinion and viewpoint of the card from someone else. Expanding on this notion, I also like to utilize the âChoose a cardâ posts on social media where usually three cards are faced down and you are asked to choose one to be revealed later. I use this to stretch a spread by using either the three cards that are revealed later by the blogger or the card I chose to be a card in the large spread
Spread Stretching Technique Eight: I like to lay out three cards. I hover my hand over the three cards and feel which cards are not right for the position. I do this until only one card is left. I choose that card and that is the first position and interpret it in my Tarot journal. I continue to do this for each card position for X amount of days until the spread is complete.
Post Notes: Please do not remove the captions. Deck: Stretch Tarot Disclaimer: This is my way of doing things. What may work for me might not work for you and what might work for you might not work for me. I encourage everyone to tailor these techniques to fit their specific needs. I just wanted to share something that has helped me for such a long time. I created this post in hopes to help others in the Tarot and Divination communities of social media who I believe would find it useful, especially those like myself who find large spreads overwhelming. Navigation: Table Of Contents | FAQ | Contact me

âšWitchy Uses For Teaâš
A good way to unwind and replenish your energy after a spell or ritual is to relax with some tea.
đ±TEA TYPESđż
Green tea- fire, passion, healing, love, sexuality
Oolong tea- reflection, wisdom, concentration
Black tea- earth, water, strength, stability, energy, cleansing
White tea- happiness, wisdom, purification (compliments moon energy very well)
Rose tea: love, compassion, psychic abilities, good luck, protection
Herbal tea- very versatile; best uses depend on herbs used. Examples are peppermint, spearmint, rooibos, etc.
âš WITCHY USES đ«
If you are performing a ritual or spell that involves sending positive energies out into the universe, steep the tea nearby while it is taking place. Drink the tea when you are done- this will allow you to replenish your energies, leaving you less drained
Brew loose tea and read the tea leaves!
Drizzle honey into the tea in sigil patterns. Stirring the tea charges it (clockwise if you are attracting something, counterclockwise if you are banishing something) and drinking it activates it!
Brew your tea with distilled drinking water that has been charged with the sun/moon to give your magic a boost!
Make your own tea blends to compliment and refine your intent
Store tea leaves/tea bags near crystal grids to charge them before brewing- the longer you charge and the stronger you brew it, the stronger the magic will be
You can add things like lemon, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne, and give your magick some oomph
You can spread tea leaves (moist, dry, used, unused, etc) as offerings, mix them into or add them on top of the soil to help plants grow (bonus if theyâve been used in healing or growth spells!), add them to melted wax for a personalized candle, etc; the possibilities are basically endless

Beginning Tips for a Witchy Notebook
I get a lot of asks about how I started my notebook whenever I post pictures of it! I do have a background in scrapbooking/collage/art, which is reflected in my witchy notebook. Iâve been a self-identified practicing witch for about a year now, but many of the practices in my craft have been in my life for years.
Some people call them Book of Shadows, grimoire, or simply just a âwitchy notebook.â Here are some tips that helped me when I was beginning my notebook. Lengthy post with pictures!
Notebook? Binder? E-grimoire?
There are lots of ways to keep all your witchy information together. You can keep your grimoire on the notes of your phone, documents on your laptop, Canva/other graphic design website, loose leaf papers or in a binder, or a regular bound notebook. Donât place too much pressure on yourself! Whatever feels right is right.
Start with what you like (but stay open to what you donât know!)
Your notebook wonât have the same authentic magic if you fill it with things that you donât actually care about! While my first notebook contains some aspects of witchcraft that I donât practice now, they were still important to me at the time. Your notebook is a visual representation of your journey, so donât be afraid to fill it with your current obsession with crystals or a one specific tarot card.Â
These are some really great tags for exploring topics when you donât know where to start!
witch tips
baby witch
witchy 101
And some simple ideas for your first entries:
your birth chart
what you want to use magic for
a collage page of your witch aesthetic (or ideal aesthetic)
a wish list
your favorite crystals
a simple moon calendar (full/new moons of the year, month, or just information about the phases)
your favorite colors, seasons, places in nature etc
record information about the chakras/energy points in the body
list of your favorite witchy movies and tv shows
draw teacups and fill them with drawings of your favorite blends
drawings of your ideal familiars (animal companions)
A couple witchy things that you may not have heard about but are super cool to incorporate into your craft:
sigils (visual symbols charged with an intent)
incantations (short spells that sometimes rhyme)
Donât knock Pinterest.
I personally like to have very organized and planned out pages. Iâve resorted to Pinterest *many* times to get graphic ideas for lunar calendars, zodiac wheels and other witchy things that require a lot of information in a condensed graphic. Pinterest has great inspiration for those special, planed out spreads.
Separate or keep it altogether.Â
Some people like to keep everything in one notebook/binder, others like to separate their topics or layouts into different notebooks. I started a bullet journal for more planned out pages, but my general notebook is a leuchtturm1917 with dotted grids where I have reference pages and personal entries.
Here are some pages of my notebook that Iâm especially proud of.
Ultimately, your notebook is a reflection of YOU. It doesnât have to be super witchy, covered in cobwebs with etched pentagrams. It can be a simple composition notebook or a super frilly lace journal. Be true to yourself and your notebook will never lead you astray. Best of luck and feel free to message me!
Which Major Arcana are you?
So, recently Iâve been wondering which Major Arcana card I see myself as most, and I stumbled across the interesting idea that everyoneâs birthday relates to a different Major Arcana card. Itâs easy to figure out using simple numerology.Â
For example:
If my birth date were 05/07/1990, Iâd add those numbers together to get 31.
0+5+0+7+1+9+9+0 = 31.Â
Now, if your number is 21 or lower, that number becomes the number of the Major Arcana card that you (according to your birth date) are most associated with or influenced by. There are only 21 Major Arcana cards, and so anything higher than this needs to be made smaller. The example birth date is 31, which is greater than the number of cards, and so the numbers need to be added together to make a smaller one. Like so:
3+1 = 4
So, in this instance 4 becomes the number associated with your card. You would then look through the Major Arcana cards to find the card associated with you (in this case it would be The Emperor.)Â
Below, Iâve written my own interpretation of what I believe each of the Major Arcana cards would be like as a person, along with a simple sentence or two of advice.Â
0 - The Fool
If youâve added up your birth date and youâve managed to get 0, I think you need to have another crack at it. Then again, if youâve managed to add numbers together and find 0, perhaps this is the right card for you after all. If you were to be influenced by The Fool you would be someone who threw your all into everything without thinking of the consequences. Sometimes reckless and impulsive, you believe âif itâs meant to be, it will beâ. The universe will provide it. Your life will be full of adventure, full of ups and downs, full of travel and journeys, and youâll never be bored. You accept everything as it comes with no worries and no judgement. Remember: somethings need finesse and planning, donât jump into everything head first. Just because you canât see the bottom of the ocean, doesnât mean you wonât find jagged rocks should you jump off the cliff.
1 - The Magician
The Magician is someone who has the power and the knowledge to make anything manifest. If you are influenced by The Magician, you work hard, are totally committed, and as such have the focus to create and enjoy all that life has to offer. You reach for your goals and you meet them, every time. Youâre charming, charismatic and people will seem to in awe of you, though you need to be careful of this as you have the potential to use this awe to manipulate people, especially with the added use of smoke and mirrors. Youâre very good at creating illusions to help you get your way. You might not even know that youâre doing it. Remember: not everything can be manipulated to your will. If you do it too often, you might just earn a reputation which will make your life a hell of a lot harder.
2 - The High Priestess
The High Priestess is full of wisdom, knowledge, and intuition, and as such, she can almost be seen as the keeper of secrets. If you are influenced by her, you will feel a pull towards a higher power, towards anything mysterious and spiritual and esoteric. You have a lot of inner wisdom, and as long as you can learn to trust your inner voice and subconscious, you will succeed. Youâre quite private and prefer to follow your own path rather than everyone elseâs. You decide who gets to know what and how much of what you know. Because of this, you remain mysterious and elusive to most people, potentially even distant, cold and smug. Remember: just because you know more than others, doesnât mean you need to share that knowledge. Sometimes others wonât appreciate your attempts at sharing as it reminds them of just how little they know.
3 - The Empress
The Empress is the mother to all. If this is you, you have a fierce nurturing instinct and are naturally inclined to create abundance and life. You create chances and opportunities for people and things to grow and become what they always should have been. Youâre the person who looks out for the underdog and nurses them back to health when theyâre beaten down. You are incredibly creative in all that you do, whether this relates to working at the office, planning a date, cleaning the house or painting. You have a love of pleasure, of all things luxurious and beautiful, however, be careful of overindulgence. As the empress, you have natural power and leadership. You feel you know best in most, if not all, situations and because of this, you may have a tendency towards anger and control if you feel you are challenged. Remember: not everyone will accept your natural role as leader and mother. Sometimes you will need to let others rule, you will need to take a knee and let others blossom into leadership in your absence.
4 - The Emperor
The Emperor is a strong authority figure. You had a high level of self-discipline, and are protective of those who you see as âyoursâ. As such, you are charismatic and seem to have a following wherever you go. You are a natural, successful leader and come will all the natural traits that follow this: logical, organised, confident and ambitious. Your ambition naturally encourages you to be determined and focused on whatever goal it is you want to complete. Your vision narrows, and your whole being becomes fixed on your dream, your goal, your plan. With this, however, comes a tendency to tread on those who are not as successful as you, mostly due to your single-mindedness. You donât mean to do it, however, those you use as a stepping stone donât know this. You can be seen as a tyrant, or as someone who doesnât care about those outside of your circle of âfollowersâ. Remember: compassion can be the greatest trait of a wise leader. There will always be someone who is left out in the cold, you can help them all, but thereâs a difference between not helping them and kicking them to the curb as you surpass them.
5 - The Hierophant
The Hierophant is a lover of rules and boundaries and doesnât often move from the orthodox way of attempting things. You are a rule follower, you do what is expected of you, and take joy from tradition. You might be drawn to exploring different philosophies and ways of looking at the world as you enjoy figuring out and learning about how and why things work like they do. You are a natural counsellor and mentor because applying these findings to other situations is a logical step for you, and you seem to be able to understand the small idiosyncrasies that have built up to cause the larger problem at hand. Incorporating your natural problem-solving skills and your love of tradition into a profession may mean you become a teacher, leader of a club or a spiritual leader. On a slightly negative note, you have a very strong view of what you think is right and you arenât often tempted to sway from it. You may have a tendency to become too rigid and feel threatened when someone is encouraging you to break the rules. Remember: Just because there is a rule, doesnât mean it is the right way to do something. Sometimes youâll find it freeing to break out and forge a path for yourself.
6 - The Lovers
The Lovers not only stand for love, but also for balance. You strive for all things in your life to be in harmony, for the yin and yang, for the femininity to complete the masculinity. You enjoy bringing together two opposites or two broken things and making a whole. Youâre a natural problem solver and you canât resist tinkering and working every single aspect of your life. You may find yourself to be a matchmaker of sorts, constantly medalling in everyone elseâs life to aid them in finding the balance. How can you relax when there are friends, or family, or parts of your life where not everything works as it should? Your life will be strewn with choices, with temptations and opportunities. They can seem overwhelming and distracting, but donât allow the desire for balance distract you from your main goals. Not everything needs to be 100% balanced 100% of the time. Remember: whilst harmony is a beautiful thing, donât allow the temptation of fixing others pull you from the important decisions you need to make in your own life.
7 - The Chariot
The Chariot is about opposing forces working together to reach victory. You are controlled, confident, wilful and, overall, successful. Sometimes it may seem like your head and your heart wants two completely different things, however, as long as you stay focused, you have the sheer strength of will to reconcile these difference and make it work. You need to keep moving forward to reach victory, even when everything seems to be moving at an impossibly frantic and uncontrolled pace. Focus and direction will be everything for you. Once you have lost those, it will seem like you have lost control of everything. It may also seem like every aspect of your life is pulling you in a million different directions. Remember: you canât control everything. The key to success is to control what you can and to not worry about what you canât.
8 - Strength
Strength, no surprise to anyone, is incredibly strong mentally and emotionally. When life knocks you down, you are able to get back up, dust yourself off and carry on. Even when it seems like youâve been hit a hundred times and every time you attempt something it fails, you have the sheer strength of will and determination to keep going. You are the embodiment of âKeep calm and carry onâ. You also have a lot of compassion and love for others. People lean on you in difficult times as you radiate stability and power. Despite this, if your focus is lost, you can sometimes force issues and end up pushing too hard. The term âyou donât know your own strengthâ springs to mind. Remember: sometimes the best thing you can do is to be patient and wait for the right moment. Push something too hard and it will break.
9 - The Hermit
The Hermit is a very introverted soul. You prefer your own company, often needing to draw back and spend time alone. You use this time to analyse things and to develop your own inner wisdom. Youâre not one to ask for advice, preferring to work things out in your own head. You may find that many others are drawn to you for advice, seeking your counsel on all manner of things, and this can sometimes irritate you. Donât become too insular, though. Isolation is fine when itâs for a purpose but everyone gets lonely sometimes. Being around other people can bring fresh new ideas and approaches to problems. Remember: a problem shared is a problem halved. Even if youâre not going to follow someoneâs advice, sometimes asking for a fresh perspective can encourage new thoughts.
10 - The Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune deals with the unpredictability of fate. Have you ever noticed that your friends call you lucky? Opportunities are seemingly hounding you and pounding on your door. They arrive out of the blue and can take you completely by surprise. Finding a ÂŁ20 on the floor, friends gifting you tickets to a concert, a dream job, finding the love of your life. It happens all the time to you. There will, of course, be bad times when things donât go your way. Times when your luck has disappeared and youâre drowning under that big black cloud with holes in both your shoes. When times like this happen, you have a tendency to become overwhelmed and discouraged. You forget the highs and only focus on the lows. Remember: the purpose of a wheel it to keep on turning. You canât appreciate the good without the bad. Â
11 - Justice
Justice represents justice of any kind. You treasure truth, balance, fairness, and logic. You weigh things up very carefully, looking at the pros and cons of a situation before you make your decisions. You are aware that your actions have long-term consequences and it is because of this that you analyse everything. You seek the truth behind all, as you value honesty and until you know the truth, you cannot be honest. However, you also need to be aware that not everyone is as honest as you, which means thing wonât play out the way you had hoped. Sometimes people allow their emotions to rule their actions, and this is something that you forget. You can have a tendency to be slightly cold, or not as compassionate as you could be. Remember: not everything needs to be analysed. Sometimes itâs okay to do things just because. Allow yourself to have fun and leave Justiceâs scales at home.
12 - The Hanged Man
The Hanged Man reflects the need to suspend action and not rush into things. You are the type of person who needs to contemplate your actions before you jump in. As with The Hanged Man, you may be someone who has a completely different view on the world; as one might image, being suspended upside down causes you to view things in a revolutionary new light. What is up becomes down, and what is normal becomes unusual. You are aware that some things need to be sacrificed if you are to move forward, hence your ability to suspend action in the face of decision when the natural instinct might be to keep moving forward. However, this ability can sometimes lead to you becoming stuck and restricted, or tied up, as it were. You need to get in touch with your emotions in order to truly be able to move on, and not just concentrate on whatâs going on in the physical world. Remember: Not everything needs to be viewed in a completely new light. Sometimes things have simple answers. Donât be tempted to over analyse.
13 - Death
Death represents the ultimate transformation and rebirth. You are someone who doesnât care for tradition. You donât want rigid patterns and suffocating structure and useless rules, you want something new and fresh and beautiful. You want to chuck out the old and usher in the new. You revel in endings and new beginnings. You are the type of person who always has sometimes new on the go, who is constantly closing one door to open the next. You create new projects, new meetings, new events, and opportunities, all so you can have that rush of newness. You try to never do the same thing twice. But because of this, you feel stagnant when youâre stuck doing the same thing. If change doesnât happen, you feel constricted. However, just because something doesnât change, doesnât mean you canât approach it in a new way. You can be the change you need to see. Remember: just because something is old or traditional, doesnât mean it always has to be changed. Things become the tried-and-tested-way for a reason. Â
14 - Temperance
Temperance is a card that talks a lot about balance. If this is you, youâre someone who doesnât often get lost in your emotions. You feel emotion, but at the same time, youâre quite logical. Youâre not tempted into excess, youâre grounded, and peaceful and calm by nature. When youâve got ten projects on the go at the same time, you donât let it overwhelm you. That doesnât mean to say you donât have a fire in you. Youâre driven and focused, and willing to do just about anything to see what happens. Youâre the type of person who experiments. The person who will put two opposites (people, elements, magics, religions, anything) together just to see what happens, to see if it works or to see if it goes bang. Remember: not everyone will appreciate being experimented on. Donât let your curiosity allow you to forget people still have feelings.
15 - The Devil
The Devil is all about temptation and power. Youâre very good at getting what you want and you get it by any means necessary. This might be through manipulation, through control, through smoke and mirrors, or simply by knowing just when to strike. Regardless, you get what you want and be damned all those who stand in your way. No one else controls you, you are your own power and ruler. You enjoy being in charge and in control, and when one of your âminionsâ slips away and begins doing something that you donât approve of, it can make you angry and irritable. You may give in to temptation far too often and have a fixation on materialistic things, or on something rather addictive. You can be distracted by âshinyâ things and you often find you obsess over them until theyâre yours. Remember: being hell-bent on an idea, situation or endeavour might be your greatest downfall. Obsession can only lead to unhealthy relationships, addiction, and dependence. Â
16 - The Tower
The Tower symbolises sudden and tragic changes. You find that your life isnât stable and it is often shaken up on a regular basis. You dream about stability, about calm and tranquillity, yet it never seems to come. If youâre not changing job, youâre moving house or breaking up with your significant other. Itâs one thing after another with you. You need to learn to accept the new experiences that life throws at you and accept that you wonât be able to control everything. The energy of the tower is dramatic and powerful, so even though it feels like your life never settles down, at least you know it will never be boring. Remember: Everything has a silver lining. With new experiences comes new understandings â youâre going to be incredibly wise and nothing will ever faze you.
17 - The Star
The Star represents hope and faith, and a sense that the Universe is looking over you. You are a romantic, optimistic and perhaps a little dreamy. You accept new phases of your life with a calm energy and mental stability as you know you will get through it in the end, perhaps because you believe you are being watched over and protected by a higher power. Youâre someone who uplifts and inspires those around, you bring a fresh, bright energy to any room youâre in and people love you for this. Forgiving and forgetting is a natural way of life for you as you know it simply wonât matter in the long run, but donât allow your faith and dreaminess to allow you drift off and become unreachable. Youâre beautiful, inside and out, with an open-heart and generosity to spare. Remember: not everyone is as giving as you. Some will take without giving, and you may find yourself wrung out because of it.
18 - The Moon
The Moon often symbolises illusions and mystery. As such, you are someone that many people donât quite understand. You have a completely unique look on the world; you are artistic and creative in how you approach tasks, and you seem to tread a path that others canât see. You have very strong highs, for example when you like something you completely and utterly love it, but you have just as strong lows, and these can seem devastating. You may seem a little uninhibited sometimes, wild and free and willing to give in to your baser instincts. You can pull people in and your energy and spirit seem infectious. To others, this can seem overwhelming and confusing, and this might cause some to dub you as âstrangeâ. Remember: just because others misunderstand, that doesnât mean you arenât right. It might take some time or explaining before others truly see your vision of the world.
19 - The Sun
The Sun symbolises fun, warmth and positivity. It should come as no surprise that you embody the same traits. You are blessed with the ability to love life to its fullest and to find the fun and the silver lining even in the most difficult of times. You bring energy to all situations and, due to your confidence and enthusiasm, itâs often infectious. You may find yourself at the centre of attention more often than not. People seem to orbit you, loving you and worshipping you, but donât let that go to your head. Whilst having a huge group of adoring fans may seem like the ultimate goal, you may find it difficult to find your true friends. After all, there are some people in this world that are nothing but leeches in disguise. They will take your warmth from you and leave you drained and broken, lying on the floor. Remember: donât allow the people who wish to bask in your warmth encourage you to gain delusions of grandeur. The higher you soar, the further you have to fall and fall you will.
20 - Judgement
Judgement represents a calling to something higher, something holier. You need to learn how to take the high road if you havenât already done so. Grudges, resentment, failings, addictions, it should all become a thing of the past. Overcoming those things which have been pulling you down means you are, in a sense, reborn. Letting go means you can become the new you that you were always meant to be. There will always be something that calls to you, something that comes above all else, and youâre going to dedicate yourself it, be it religion, human rights, overcoming addiction or any other walk of life. Your determination allows you to walk the talk, to take action to accomplish and live up to the high standards you have set. Embrace it and follow your path without fear or doubt. You have the courage, perseverance, and determination to complete your goal in life and fulfil your lifeâs purpose. Remember: donât be tempted to unfairly judge those who donât see eye to eye with you. Use your knowledge and passion to teach, not condemn.
21 - The World
The World symbolises victory over obstacles. You are excellent at following your plans and seeing them through until they reach their completion. Your dreams have a way of coming true and you can always find the solutions to your problems. However, you may have a tendency to start a hundred different projects and spread yourself too thin â youâll still get things finished, after all thatâs what youâre all about, but it might near kill you to do it. Remember: even if you can do it all, doesnât mean you should, especially not all at the same time. Concentrating on one of two things will reap better rewards.
Remember, this is just my own interpretation of the cards, yours may be slightly or completely different to mine. Use your own intuition and judgement.Â
This is an interesting take. I ended up with 10, the Wheel of Fortune. And although I can see myself a bit in that card, I've always felt more of a connection to the Hermit.

My Divination Cleansing Methods
I am often asked about the cleansing methods I use before and after client reading sessions. While this is not an exhaustive list by any means, I have decided to share with you my favorite methods of cleansing. I must be honest, I do not always ritualized my cleansing. There are times when I go with what I am intuitively feeling and call it good but other times I am pulled to do something more elaborate. I encourage you to experiment safely and find what works best for you. In the effort for full disclosure I have not included the divinatory cleansing methods from my spiritual elders, or any of the sacred cleansing ritualized practices and services passed down from those channels.Â
Note: Some of the methods I use for cleansing are Afrolatinx in nature while others are more of a modern approach. Please be mindful and respectful of these practices, their origin, and spiritual uses.
Long Distance Readings:
These are the readings I do through video conference, phone, private video delivery and e-mail.
Before A Reading: Â
Self Cleansing: I like to fumigate my body with a blend of frankincense and myrrh incense. Itâs amazing at removing negative energies, attachments, entities etc. I then like to wash my hands with lemon verbena soap and sea salt. I then spray Florida water on my body, mark my head. chest and feet with cascarilla and cover my head with a white head-wrap. Â
Space Cleansing: I like to cleanse my space with loud clapping, Maracas, and burning palo santo. I keep a bowl of water on my table to help filter out energies and a white lit candle to pull energy from and illuminate my guides and ancestors.
Deck Cleansing: Before a reading, I put my working deck in a bowl offered to my ancestors to bless and cleanse. I shuffle and allow them to spiritually shuffle the deck.
After A Reading:
Self Cleansing: I like to end a reading with some nice peppermint tea. It helps me cleanse my spirit and uplifts my mood as sometimes readings can be draining. If I have the time, I try to take a shower right after my client readings are over. This helps me let go of any and all excess energy from the reading.
Space Cleansing: After a reading session, I say a light prayer, open the windows and release the energy. I often light an additional candle as an offering to my ancestors and their wisdom and spray some colonia natural for an additional cleansing measure. Â
Deck Cleansing: After readings I put my working deck back in my ancestral space to be cleansed with an offering of coffee to be charged for twenty-four hours.
In Person Reading Method:
These are readings I do face to face with a client in a public setting.
For in person reading methods where I am meeting a client face to face, I strive to meet at a scent free zone as well as let all clients know of my scent free preference. I also encourage my clients to also participate in this prior to and during our time together. We live in a world where not everyone is comfortable or able to smell or be around certain scents from fragrance oils, scented lotions, perfumes, colognes or essential oil blends because of things such an scent sensitives, allergies, or other health concerns. I make sure that I as well as my client are safe in all aspects of their reading experience as best as I possibly can. There are some times when I cannot control the scent signature of a meeting area such as reading in a coffee shop or local bar but the client is made aware ahead of time of the reading space and I always do my best to provide any additional accommodations if and when they request it before the meeting. Â
Before A Reading:
Body Hydration And Release: I like to drink a full cup of water before a reading to hydrate my body and wake myself up. This also serves as a way to cleanse myself. I also make sure to do a small meditation and release anything that may not serve me or my clients highest good.Â
Protective Means: I like to keep on my person a protective eye amulet that my mother hand made for me and blessed for protection and to cleanse any wayward energies that I may come across.Â
Hand Washing: I like to wash my hands with fragrance free anti bacterial soap and coarse sea salt. Â Not only is this for hygiene purposes but this also helps purify my hands as well as remove any dirt and oils from them.
Crystal Cleansing: I like to keep a small selenite crystal on my person. I also ask my clients before hand if they have a cleansing crystal they prefer for the reading and bring that to set on the reading space.
Deck Cleansing: I like to keep a clear quartz and amethyst with my deck to cleanse the energies while on the go.
Space Cleansing: I carry a small spritz bottle filled with blessed water, and a few pieces of crystal quartz. I usually spray down the table and my chair and ask the client if it is okay if I do the same to their chair, being respectful of their choices and beliefs.
After In Person Readings:
When I go home, I take a cleansing bath* to remove any residual energies and refresh my spirit.
*I usually have this bath set up the night before to use the following day after reading marathons. Please make sure the ingredients provided in this post are safe for you to use.

Witch Bottles? Witch Bottles! - Explained.
Witch bottles traditionally act as what can be described as âdecoysâ for malevolent or baneful spirits and energies. This includes curses, hexes and jinxes - it includes anything and everything that seeks to ruin that good streak youâve got goinâ on.
Historically, witch bottles included items such as rusted nails, thorns and wine (yep, you read it right: people used to stick wine in bottles to never be consumed!), and almost always include an item of your physical being, such as a lock of hair, a little bit of spit or blood or semen, etc,⊠you catch my drift here, right?
**IMPORTANT: if and when you draw blood, donât just wing it. Use hygienic and sterilized equipment to prevent infection!
When creating a witch bottle of this ilk, your main goal is entrapment so personalize to your heartâs content.
Nowadays, we have witch bottles for protection, entrapment, cursing and myriad other things, but typically they all follow the same basic method of construction (for lack of a better word) as traditional witch bottles, which goes as follows:
For protection against baneful energies and the entrapment of them, some ingredients may include the following:
A item of your physical being
Sea salt
Needles/pins/nails
Broken glass
Sage
Garlic
Blood or wine
A sigil written on paper or the ashes of a burnt sigil
A tangle of black thread
Basil
Cayenne Pepper
If youâre creating a protection bottle, you may want to include protective herbs, (such as Rosemary, St. Johnâs Wort, Pennyroyal or Mandrake root) and small crystals, like amethyst and quartz, in place of the⊠angry-ish content of the negativity-trapping bottle.
Next, you put all of your ingredients into your chosen bottle which can be made of glass, clay, metal or ceramics, and seal it as tightly as possible with a lid or stopper (cork). Now, shake! If the mood takes you, fill the bottle with whatever thoughts and feelings fit the intent for a little extra oomph.
Now you must take a candle that again, corresponds with the intent of the bottle. Black for protection (for me!), - but each witch has their own colour correspondences, remember - and drop the hot wax over the lid/stopper of your witch bottle. Before you play with hot wax, set some paper down underneath your bottle to protect whatever surface youâre working on and please, please take care not to let the wax touch your skin whilst itâs hot!
Traditionally, again, ceramic witch bottles were burnt or placed in a fire or hearth and the ashes/remains then buried somewhere on the witchesâ property. Nowadays this isnât always an option, and many of us choose to use glass bottles or jars. In this instance, you can run the jar/bottle through the smoke of an incense that befits yours needs and wants, and then leave the witch bottle somewhere dark/somewhere it wonât be disturbed.

a sigil to protect you from any dark energy with the potential to hurt you đ
@the-wiccan-diabetic You said you needed a protection type sigil, right?
