no more media analysis until we agree that all art is a sublimation of the desire to ritually sacrifice the king. yeah all of it. yeah even cars 2 and stuff
the writers thinly-disguised [sublimation of the desire to ritually sacrifice the king]
My submission for a local community zine.
Theme: Dig In!
We all make fun of the classic “Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, and Zagthar the giant rat man” in sci-fi but I think a lack of it is far far worse because it’s an instant tip-off that the writers didn’t think about culture happening between their present day (or worse, their own childhood) and whatever future date they’ve picked for their stories.
Like yeah Sanctuary Moon is How To Get Away With Murder and Worldhoppers is Stargate, but Martha Wells doesn’t ask us to believe that a teenager in the year 2072 hasn’t seen a single movie that released after Empire Strikes Back
Supermassive Black Hole lends itself to soundtracking one thing and one thing alone and that is a strip club. Supermassive Black Hole is the most perfect strip club rock song I've ever heard. I've heard rock songs *about* strip clubs that feel less suited to a strip club than Supermassive Black Hole. I have heard songs where sex is explicitly described in the lyrics that feel less sexy than Supermassive Black Hole. Supermassive Black Hole is a song so disgustingly, flagrantly, enticingly slutty that I sometimes feel legitimately shocked that it was made by a band that most people make fun of for sounding like if Radiohead sold out after their first album. It is a crowning achievement in stripper music that may never be topped in our lifetime. It is best known for soundtracking the scene in the first Twilight movie where they play baseball.
I Defeated the Demon Lord but it Turns Out the Demon Army was Largely Unaffected and I Fell Victim to a Flawed Belief in Great Man Theory
I Executed The Demon Lord With One Flawless Strike And After A Brief Power Struggle The New Demon Government Is Substantially More Committed To The War Because Of Some Reason I Don't Know
I Successfully Overthrew The Demon Lord And Instituted Demon Democracy But They Voted For A Commie So The CIA Not Some Fantasy Equivalent The Actual CIA Who Have Known About Magic And Alternate Realms The Whole Damn Time But Won't Just Unisekai Me Launched A Counter Coup And That's When Things Really Went To Shit
hey kitten. daddy needs to talk to you. your kink blog is great, but you are not highlighting the words correctly. kitten. stop highlighting. this is shit. did you seriously highlight that period. kitten.
a thing about me is i basically never notice a wig or other kind of hairpiece in tv/movies. it has to be party city territory for me to even twig it. people will complain about characters' wigs looking bad and i will nod along but there is like a 90% chance i did not notice for a second while watching. i consider this mostly a blessing.
couples outfit idea
it's really embarrassing how much self control i have to exert when you put me in front of a tray of convenient and tender meat like if you put meatballs in front if me the fuckers are gone in milliseconds. same true of roadted brussels sprouts or basically anything that's a nice little dense and textured morsel. i am the hors that d'ouvres
do not stand at my plate and snack. that shit's all mine. please give it back. i am the dozen hors that d'ouvre. i am the meatball's gentle curve. i am the cracker's butter crunch. i am a thousand grapes for lunch.
Watched a video where someone found a recording of local radio coverage of the Moon landing and it's so weird listening bc
now you only really see the moment of and don't realize it was an hours long protracted event with plenty of dead time to fill. At one point they just start listing off famous ships to waste time when nothing was happening
there were ads? They had to incorporate ad breaks? Not only that but actual, moon landing themed ads that segue in from the coverage. Hearing an ad that starts "the world is watching three men traveling on a mission - but every day, America's truckers travel the roads on a mission - feeding a nation..." in the exact tone of those modern commercials that are like "this SUPER BOWL, let's honor real heroes, our FIRST RESPONDERS"
Happy moon landing day
The video...
...and the uncut coverage
A rare bit of radio coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Commercials and Station ID's intact.
My favorite moon landing anecdote:
Dad (who was a NASA engineer) bought a 25" color TV in summer 1969 just to watch the moon landing in style. Largest TV available at the time. Stupidly expensive.
Dad (who was a NASA engineer) was furious to learn the landing would be broadcast in black & white.
researching the history of education in japan and learning that, pre–Meiji Restoration, peasants/commoners formed their own schools to become educated because it was the best way of fighting tax fraud.
That is, when an official told you, a rice farmer, that you owed more taxes than you really did, it was very useful if you were good enough at math to know he was lying (and could prove it) and if you were good enough at writing to write a letter to your government defending your case.
all of which is to say it's crazy that mega-corporations are now pushing education to be "what if you paid us whatever we tell you to for the rest of your life and never do math or write anything ever again"
little miss auditory processing disorder would like you to repeat what you just said then immediately respond to you before you finish
americans be like dude learning to drive isnt that bad but they dont know youre in ireland sharing a lane with a horse who is a bad person. And the horse and the instructor are friends and he keeps dapping the horse up through the window. And the horse called you a bitch under his breath so quiet the driving instructor is trying to convince you that you must have misheard him but you didnt. and theres a roundabout coming up and the horse didnt indicate
I can no longer remember the title of the book it’s from, but here’s a quote that has remained trapped in my head for the last 8 years: “Driving in Ireland is dangerous because the roads are full of old farmers who’ve led good lives and are fairly sure they’ll get into heaven.”
When the country doesn’t have easily accessible public libraries, piracy is sometimes the only option. They’ve been collaborating with the police to arrest poor street vendors and small book shop owners. Evil, just evil
“micro trend” ITS A FAD!!!!
the hetero jessica books are not Good, perceiving the author as male wouldn't have saved ACOTAR from its own mediocrity, and would probably actually hurt it bc it's not actually bad enough to be a spectacle for hate-reading or ridicule, wouldn't have won the Bad Sex In Fiction award or necessarily even run, there's literally nothing groundbreaking about it in a positive OR negative sense :/
