The Sims ended up with same-sex relationship support thanks almost entirely to gay programmer Patrick J. Barrett III.
“At the time, it wasn’t considered ‘normal’ to be gay or lesbian,” [Barrett] said. “Some even saw it as dangerous. But in The Sims it was normal and safe to be a gay person. It was the first time we could play a game and be free to see ourselves represented within. It was a magical moment when my first same-sex Sims coupled kissed. I still sometimes wonder how in the world I got away with it.”
It’s ok if you’re tired.

not to confirm stereotypes but do my blue hair ripped skinny jeans and choker necklaces mean nothing to you
shirt that says "i got my bottom surgery done at geneco" and on the back it says "and if i don't pay up, the repo man will steal my fucking genitals"
the bit of chapters like 75% of the way through htn are hysterical for a lot of reasons but im personally a big fan of how. Gideons going on and on about how Harrow doesn't even like her and never will and didn't even want to eat her etc etc and then we cut back to Harrow and she's in like. ghost group therapy grief counseling. post grief lobotomy. grieving so hard she's writing au fanfic
Gideons giving a speech to Ianthe about how Newsflash Asshole she did this all for the love of the game and thats FINE. she's FINE with it because harrow could never gaf about her even a little bit
and all the while Harrows back in her chapters like And Then I walk into a coffee shop and gideon is the barista and she's a little sweaty from the kitchen and when she hands me my coffee our hands touch and our eyes meet and- . anyways the locked tomb is a comedy
LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
public service announcement to every plus-sized person in the chat:
you don't owe anyone an explanation for your body or your health
being fat isn't a moral failing deserving of judgment
you don't owe anyone self-shame or weight loss just to be loved and accepted
your health isn't solely defined by your weight
you deserve proper healthcare that doesn't reduce you to a number on a scale
you deserve to take care of your health in whatever way you need without being judged for trying
life is too short to not enjoy good food
life is WAY too short to care what other people think
just because other people want you to feel bad for being fat doesn't mean you should
you deserve to feel sexy and beautiful in your body without being reduced to a fetish or told that you're fetishizing fatness
you deserve to take pride in your body without being accused of 'promoting unhealthy lifestyles'
you deserve to date whoever the hell you want without judgment
you deserve to love yourself and your body without being called vain
you deserve to take selfies and share pictures of yourself without people commenting on your body
you deserve to have standards for yourself and how you're treated
you deserve to do what makes you happy and healthy without others turning you into a political statement or a social martyr
you're allowed to have flaws and quirks and personality traits that aren't attributed to your weight
there is no such thing as a "perfect fat person" and you certainly aren't responsible for setting that example
you are loved and you deserve to exist without apology or explanation
the world is better with you in it and that is not up for debate
BOOK COVER REDRAW of one of the most insane and gutwretching books ever written. (Art without text and full process on my insta!)
It was my first time designing a book cover and I have to say the process was painful. I started with a strong idea in mind: I wanted to portray Harrow at the exact moment she got her memories back. It had to be spectacular, dramatic, atrocious. There had to be skeletons, lots of skeletons, the castle of her House, and of course, Gideon's sword. Then came the hard part, colors. I changed the colors I think 4 times, just couldn't get them right, but in the end can say I'm quite happy with the result. During the whole process I kept looking at the original cover from @studiotommy.co (insta) trying to grasp even a small fragment of his tenique (ps. Posting this 2 days before a big tit announcement wasn't in my plans👀)
I hope I've done this book justice, because at the end, that's what it's all about.
Ty @noblenico for sharing the We Do Bones font, it really made the difference!
fairly reliably when someone is mean and weird to you on Tumblr, you can look on their blog and all their recent posts will be about how unhappy they are in their interpersonal relationships and/or how frustrated they are that their creative venture hasn't found success. and it's like ohhhhh okay, I get it. you're clawing at other people because you're actively drowning. my sympathies, that sucks, but I'm not a lifeguard so carry on.
"incurious" still GOAT insult. You could be better but you're not. You could learn but you won't, and for no good reason, just a base dispositional apathy. Get fucked
Thoughts on Griddle fanon characterization:
It is very important to me that Gideon Nav is seen as a Losergirl. Seriously, she isn’t suave. She THINKS she’s suave, but she isn’t. She IS funny, especially when she’s the one narrating. Gideon is, in canon, a homeschooled teenager from a religious backwater planet and has canonically never touched a titty that wasn’t printed on paper or attached to her body. Don’t get me wrong, she is The Character of All Time.
But we all need to remember that this motherfucker blushed and stuttered when an older woman so much as batted an eyelash at her. She’s got as much game as Luke Skywalker going to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters. She’s amazing. Losergirl representation.
Things I hope Tommy Arnold's announcement/merch drop will be:
- a life size cardboard cut out of Gideon Nav
- one of those grow-a-dinosaur capsules that dissolves in water except it's grow-an-Alecto
- finger puppets of Jod and the Lyctors
- a crank up Jack-in-the-box but it's a Babs-in-a-coffin
- two packs of cigarettes and a purple tie
- a mini Kiriona Gaia pocket Jesus
- real genuine can of harrow marrow soup that sets off Geiger counters
- a Polly pocket compact replica of Canaan House
- Front Line Titties of the Ninth pinup calender
last night i did a drawing of a game state in hangman. i wasn’t playing hangman, i was just drawing a moment in the game, like a still life. my friend tried to guess a letter & i had to tell her, no, we’re not playing it, it’s just a drawing of hangman, you’re losing the distinction between reality & fiction
shipping the popular yaoi pairing but shaking my head while i do to indicate that i also care about the work's themes and other characters
FINALLY I GET TO SHARE THIS PICTURE

Filippo Palizzi (Italian painter 1818–1899)
Excavations in Pompeii, 1870
Oil on Canvas
119.5 × 86 cm.
Private Collection
@anthropologist-on-the-loose get peer-reviewed because your shared experience with the subject of the painting really heightened the emotional impact of this artwork for me ( An impact which was already high tbh. The idea that Pompeii was built by generations, buried by generations, uncovered by generations. What if I just started screaming and never stopped. )
"Built by generations, buried by generations, uncovered by generations" is ruining me, thanks
But it was buried by generations! Yes, it was buried in a volcanic eruption, but it was also figuratively buried. Over the centuries the location of Pompeii was lost, and it was found again by accident during construction projects. The ruins were not conclusively identified as the city of Pompeii until the 18th century (more than a millennia and a half after the eruption!) and it has been excavated ever since. People have been digging there since before the formation of the United States.
It's truly an incredible, one-of-a-kind site.
