Hello! My name is Snook known formally as SnookDraws, snook4456, or TheMostRandomFandomz if you've really stuck around for a while
I am a digital and traditional artist known to animate once in a blue moon, currently undiagnosed neurodivergent, cis female, and scared of my own shadow (do not be afraid to talk to me I am friendly I love questions or casual conversation my DMs are open!)
My fandoms include M*A*S*H, The Ghost and Molly McGee, Epic Mickey, Murder Drones, Roommates (FlowJoe), The Amazing Digital Circus, FNAF, and most anything under the sun but for the most part those first three are the only things you'll see on this account lol
I don't post art very often so I'm sorry but I'm gonna try posting more! I have gained a new obsession and inspiration has struck once again
I mostly reblog shitposts but asks about my interests or what I've made are always welcomed, thank you for reading this long ass reintroduction š
I got a day off today, so in continuing with Mermay, here's a small crossover between the Blobfish and Molly McGee au and @the5n00k's Beast of Brighton bay au. I admit, I had to shrink down seabeast!Scratch to make him fit in here. (Good thing he doesn't know the OTHER way blobfish!Scratch can go on land without a tank or bucket.)
Hey everyone I'm not dead! And I'm here to bitch about the gay demon show once again
Spoilers for Hazbin Hotel season 2 episode 4 It's A Deal
And for The Amazing Digital Circus episode 6 They All Get Guns
Something I've noticed and my friends have pointed out to me is how similar the scenes are between Vox and Alastor and Pomni and Jax. Specifically the scenes where the latter characters lose their shit on the other. Both scenes are nearly identical in theme since both Alastor and Jax believe they're better off alone. So why did one rip my heart out and curb stomp it into the dirt while the other made me feel nothing? The short answer is pacing. The long answer is a bit more complicated.
I can't flat out say "THE HAZBIN SCENE IS BAD" because that's untrue and disingenuous and dismissive. I actually think the entire episode is rather good. The problem comes down to the series over a combined 12 episodes failing to get me invested emotionally in either of these characters. And if that's not the intention of the scene and the intention is to further emphasize how terrible Alastor is, great! You succeeded. But I'm finding it increasingly hard to cheer this deer man on, even during scenes I should absolutely be enthralled by him. Why is that? It's because the show is doing too much.
Take the average The Amazing Digital Circus episode for example. It's a different setting, sure, but it has the exact same if not more potential to be as whacky and unhinged as the demon show. And sometimes it is... But it also knows when to pull back. Long, quiet scenes of the characters simply existing with each other and bonding, dramatic existential weight is left to sink in, small details and conversations foreshadow later events and it all works. This is what Hazbin is trying desperately to do but it's not letting their characters exist long enough to breathe. More times than not, there are SEVERAL plot threads introduced every episode that only get "resolved" in the last 2 or 3 episodes. Hazbin Hotel is currently sitting at 14 episodes as of writing this with 2 more on the way. Digital Circus has 6. If they were even remotely interested in developing their characters and their relationships in any meaningful way, they could have done it by now. (One could argue "alastor is not a main character in the same way Jax is" and while that's correct, the narrative still expects you to care about him to some degree. Not even the characters in-universe care about him besides Charlie and Niffty lmao)
I will admit, there are a couple scenes in Hazbin that are very nice! Little character moments that show they're a team or friends, this is especially apparent with Husk and Angel. But Alastor? I have zero attachment to him whatsoever because the narrative hasn't given me a reason to care about him. Hell, I'm barely interested in his big mystery or whatever anymore, I just want it over with so we can move on. Jax on the other hand is a different story.
On the surface, he's very similar to Alastor. Trickster, sadist, dodgy personality, never taking anything seriously, they both think they're above it all and have it all figured out. The difference between them is Jax has something to connect to. Throughout the series, you see Jax's mask break or come down briefly before he puts the wall back up. With Alastor... It feels like he's always got an angle. He doesn't have any personal feelings towards anyone but himself and it makes him very hard to read or get attached to. So when Jax snaps at Pomni, you're not angry or confused, you're just sad. Sad for him, sad for his broken mental state, sad for this obvious trauma response as he's pushing away the only person who still gives a shit about him. But when Alastor snaps at Vox out of nowhere, I was just left confused. I don't know where he's coming from so he just comes off as an asshole. Maybe they'll explain more about him after he escapes his deal or whatever but by then I feel like it'll be too late for me.
I'm so happy for the people who can enjoy these characters on a greater level than me! And if you disagree with me about anything, I'd love to hear what and why. I'm always open to (POLITE) discussion and I love hearing what makes characters mean so much to others. Maybe you can prove me wrong! As always, these are just my thoughts and they're subject to change
Trick or treat! May I have your cutest snake? (Trick question, they're all cute)
Hi there! Is this a meme costume? Haha, I think I'm too old to get it but you look cool anyway.
I do have one snake that is a teensy bit cuter than the rest, but he's not for little kids. Are you old enough to meet him? Ah, I see an adult behind you and they're nodding approval! Okay, awesome! Just be careful, okay?
i'm just continually shocked by how many people on this website do not consume any art or media by black people. if you are into almost any genre of popular music at all you have to go out of your way to do that
Taking this as an opportunity to promote one of my new top favorite artists
Guys please their music is absolutely phenomenal and amazing, genuinely I canāt describe how much I love their music, like something about it reminds me of the kind of game soundtracks and anime soundtracks I grew up with mashed together with jazz thrown in and itās just SO GOOD!! Iām pretty sure one of their songs got pretty popular on TikTok? Im not sure how mainstream this guy is yet?? Maybe their super duper popular and I just donāt know, I found out about them mostly through Warrior cats animations and edits people had done of my fandom with their songs, so Iām not really well versed on whatās mainstream or not, unless itās like SUPER DUPER mainstream you know?
