This weekends Alaskan adventures:
A friend from Texas came to visit, so we did a lot of the touristy things, as well as a few obscure ones, such as
- Climbinh Harp Mountain / We were so famished by the time we made it back down, we ended up going up to a cabin and asking if we could use their restroom + have some fresh water. They said yes and restored my faith in humanity
- Visit Girdwood / We visited the Aleyeska resort just to walk around, and then went hiking along Winner Creek. After the hike was completed, we treated ourselves to a giant cinnamon roll from the Bake Shop
- Visit the Animal Conservation Center / From an ethical standpoint, I tend not to enjoy anything that profits off of keeping someone captive ( like Sea World, or a normal Zoo), so, a happy medium was the Conservation center. We were able to see many animals that sadly had been badly wounded over the years, and were being held in captivity because they wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild.
- Visit downtown Anchorage / We parked our car down by the Ulu Factory and started there. From there, we walked up to the main roads of downtown, took a tour of the Federal Building, enjoyed Snow City’s coffee, searched for ice cream, walked the coastal trail, and tried a reindeer hot dog. A very big day for being a foodie
- Visiting Talkeetna / This town is 100% my favorite place in Alaska. I’m slightly biased because I spent a summer interning at the Gateway to the Arctic camp in 2017, which completely changed my life. While we were in Talkeetna this weekend, we splurged at Conscious Coffee, ate our full at Mountain High Pizza, watched a live music performance, went shopping at all of the tourist traps, and then visited the camp, where volunteers were finishing in their day off with a volleyball competition.
All in all it was a good (but tiring) weekend
