Been playing a LOT of Fallout 4 recently and my go-to companion is Codsworth (because he’s my son) so here are the top 10 fun facts I found out while looking at his page on the wiki. Note that since this is a fanmade wiki, I can’t be 1000% sure of its legitimacy but a lot of it feels familiar.
1. Codsworth doesn’t actually care about you being a cannibal, just that you’re polite. From what I can find there’s no friendship decay from cannibalism, and his “Eating Corpses” lines only wish that Sole would have more manners, like using a napkin and utensils or seasoning their food first.
2. Codsworth has a death line despite being essential.
Bethesda. Count your days.
3. Codsworth has a lot of funny lines when you throw an explosive, but he also has one REALLY funny line when you step on a mine: “Whoopsie!”
4. Indeed a lot of Codsworth’s lines are really sweet about wanting to keep you safe, like suggesting you hide behind him in areas associated with the Children of Atom because he’s radiation-proof.
5. Despite being at least a little polite about most enemies, Codsworth is constantly insulting Raiders. Compare “Keep a look out for Mirelurks” and “Eyes out, this may be Gunner territory” to “Point me at the next raider you see, I’ll take out the rubbish” and “Bloody psychotic gits. If you’ll pardon my French”
6. One of his lines when fighting mongrels is “Hello, doggie!” And I know he probably says it angrily but because I haven’t heard it all I can picture is him going “Puppy!!”
7. There’s a lot of good switch in dialogue but I actually really the dialogue when you switch from X6-88 to Codsworth.
8. Some good switch OUT dialogue comes from Paladin Danse, who sounds like he is barely restraining himself from being an asshole. You need to hear the audio to get it, but it’s pretty funny. Additionally from the Switch Out dialogue it seems Codsworth is on good terms with every companion, with highlights like calling Hancock the “beloved mayor of Goodneighbor” and telling X6-88 that he can “Rest easy with someone of [X6-88’s] skill” looking after Sole.
9. I noticed this on my own time but something that’s really interesting to me is that, if you take your companion to go see your spouse in 111, Codsworth and Nick are the most emotional sounding. I just think it’s cute that two robot companions are very “human” in that way. This is probably actually because they share a Voice Actor!
10. You don’t actually need to save Preston and the settlers before recruiting Codsworth, you just need to go far enough into Concord. The wiki says that you need to go “Far enough to hear gunshots”. What this means is that Codsworth actually has some unique dialogue during “When Freedom Calls” and the early Minutemen Quests that I have personally never heard.
There’s a lot to discover about my favorite little guy, and too keep things brief I’ll stop at 10. Goodness knows I could go for ages. The wiki is a treasure trove of cute, funny, or cool things about Codsworth, so I recommend giving it a look!
