Return to the Lazaret Alone Pt. 3 - Headcanon
A/N: What do I actually call him in the title? Count Lucio? Lucio whatever-his-last-name-is? Who knows, but for now he is simply ✨Lucio✨... anyway, this is part 3 for @snarkfinnicksoup! I know I’m taking my sweet time between posts, but truth be told I have very little motivation to do anything beyond focusing on school. So sorry for that! Requests are still open, although do be warned that it could be literal months before I get to your request!

When you started dating Lucio, you had to have known that it wouldn’t be easy
He often came across as egotistical and obnoxious, usually unwilling to admit to any of his mistakes
And he was trying, genuinely trying to be better for you
But that didn’t mean that he would apologize for a fight wherein he fully believed he was right
When he woke up and saw you weren’t beside him, it stung, but he was starting to understand that sometimes people just needed a little space in relationships to sort out their own feelings
He was totally willing to give you that space, granted that you came and apologized to him for the argument by the end of the day
After all, you were one of the smartest people he knew
Of course you would come around to his way of thinking
But when he hadn’t seen you by the time the sun set he began to worry
What if you had been attacked? Or captured? Or killed? What if you had left him?
He couldn’t stand the thought of you being hurt, and fully, completely, totally believed that you would never leave him willingly, no doubt about it probably
With that in mind he realized that this was the perfect chance for him to rescue you from whatever evil had harmed you, and thus have you realize he had been right all along
The biggest problem was that he had no idea where you were
He didn’t want to ask for help, but Vesuvia was a huge place and there was no way he would ever risk your life by searching alone and taking up too much time
As much as he hated doing so, he pushed his pride aside and asked Nadia to send a search party
Luckily for him, Nadia cared about you a lot and agreed immediately, chastising Lucio for not coming to her sooner
But you were nowhere to be found
Obviously he wouldn’t give up that easily though; he demanded the search party to search as far beyond Vesuvia as necessary
Fortunately before everyone could get very far someone with more than two brain cells (*cough cough* Asra *cough*) decided to check the Lazaret
You returned to Lucio before the end of your second day missing to find him borderline hysterical
His makeup was asymmetrical and smudged, his hair disheveled, and his clothes rumpled
The moment he saw you he ordered everyone else out of the room and threw his arms around you, holding you to him tightly
He definitely wasn’t crying
He definitely wasn’t out of his mind with worry thinking about the possibility that you had had enough of him and decided to leave
Never really one for subtlety he immediately demanded an explanation for what had happened to you
And when you told him, it broke his heart in two
He had never considered that someone as incredibly as you would ever have doubts about your relationship
And hearing that you felt the need to isolate yourself in such a horrid place only made things worse
And as the cherry on top of the emotionally devastated cake, you had decided to hide yourself in a place he had tarnished with his terrible past decisions
Guilt over his own choices and concern for your well-being were battling within him
By that point he had completely forgotten the argument that had led to all of this in the first place
He didn’t want an apology anymore
He just wanted you to be okay
Lucio wasn’t exactly a master at talking through anyone’s emotions in a healthy way, but he encouraged you to tell him exactly what you were feeling
He would fix whatever it was that had made you feel so anxious about talking to him about your relationship insecurities
He also not-so-tactfully avoided talking about why you were at the Lazaret
As much of an emotional mess as you were, he was on the verge of tears as well, and he didn’t think he could handle too much at the moment
The Lazaret and your related pasts would have to wait
For now he would focus on the present and what he could do to ensure his future with you
