When Can You Start? || Rin & Saya
It was a rather weird day for Rin.
There she was, seated in what felt like an expensive chair, waiting for someone named Saya to come into the office where she sat. To interview this girl. For a job.
It wasn't her office. It wasn't her chair. It wasn't even her job to do this sort of thing.
In fact, Rin hardly even knew the person she was sitting in for (no pun intended.) She was just a guest artist who got her stuff put up here on occasion.
There was no reason she should be there, and yet there she was, all the same.
Rin was seated peacefully by the Picasso and Dali exhibits as usual, studying the form and brush techniques for their own sake, when the lady from the front desk (whom she called Trudy not because it was her name, but because Rin thought she looked like a Trudy) stormed out, clip-clopping in her heels all the way out the front door.
Normally, she would have paid no heed if not for the fact that her boss, or rather the lady who called every few months for her work to be put up in a "local artists" show, came up to her with a fake smile plastered on her wiry, sallow face.
"Say, Tezuka-san, fancy seeing you here!" she called, putting her arm around her shoulders like they were good friends.
"Not really. I come here every other day..." she noted in a bored voice, trying to worm her way out of the older woman's grasp.
Ignoring her comment, the woman -her name was...Martha, right?- grunted as she began to usher Rin into the office, talking fast and with purpose.
"Look. You know what it takes to be a curator at a museum, yes? I mean, you're here all the time, and don't think I don't hear what some of the others say about your knowledge of art. It's crazy-"
"What do you want, Martha... your name's Martha, right?" The red-head interrupted. At this, Martha started, a glint of steel in her gaze.
"Mary, but close enough," she ground out, annoyed now. "I need you to interview someone coming in for a curator job today. Mr. Carmine's secretary just quit, and he's away on business. I would do it myself, you know, except I have a meeting to go to..."
Rin gave her a piercing look, one that betrayed nothing and everything.
" Oh come on. It's really more of a formality than anything. We need a new curator, and she's the only one that applied. It'll be easy. I'd be very grateful." she haggled, looking agitated, as though the strain of staying to talk was becoming too much.
Rin, however, cared not. She knew better than to take Mary's words at face value. Having been here every day, she observed the goings-on at the museum. She knew Mary was screwing the boss man. It wasn't hard either, given that they always happened to be out at meetings or at lunch at the same time.
It didn't matter to her much. Heck, she even found it amusing for a while. That is, until she got roped into something like this. The worst part was, they couldn't take it after-hours because of Mrs. Carmine.
"Ohreally?Thanksyou'readoll,bye!"
Before she could even protest, she was shoved into a room with a table and two chairs. Mary slapped a file down, and turned tail, leaving her alone to wait.
Taking another look at the open file before her, Rin sighed, wondering why she didn't just go to the park today like she should have.
