bellyjcksnâ:
the sun was always too bright on sunday mornings. and monday mornings. and tuesday mornings.Â
but this was a thursday morning and belly could have sworn that she had woken up under fluorescent lights. what? did she have jaundice or something all of a sudden? her eyelids peeled open and she groaned, one hand immediately being used as a visor while the other pushed herself up. her fingers gripped into the plantâs little leaves and her arm felt shaky holding whatever weight she could hold up, bellyâs squinting gaze relaxed, the sun blocked by a familiar officer. mouth muscles settled into a deep frown, arm buckling and belly laid back into the bushes. âhi, mom.âÂ
belly snorted, both her hands over her face as if she were three again playing hide and seek. and hadnât that been it all along? athena jackson, bellyâs mother, had finally caught up with her daughter. âno i do not need help up,â she scoffed, her hands moving away from her face before scrambling to her feet. legs stepped onto the sidewalk while hands hushed to brush off any residue from the fucking ground. fingers snapped and then pulled into finger guns, smirking a little before a shaky, â-well itâs was lit seeinâ you,â was let out while turning in the other direction.
There was this dark feeling in the pit of Athenaâs stomach as the sunâs glare finally lifted off the barely conscious body. Sheâd be able to recognize every inch of her daughter in any circumstance so as soon as she was able to actually see the features of the girl, that dark feeling turned into her stomach dropping. A surge of adrenaline pumped through her, an overwhelming flurry of emotions from worry to guilt to anger began to take control. It took everything in her not to drop to her knees and pick her daughter up, it took everything in her to not fucking cry.Â
Instead of allowing any of this to show, the cop remained hard-faced and planted to the spot sheâd stopped in. They had a complicated relationship, her and Belly. Their family had been through so much, and Athena hadnât been around much because she was working to put food on the goddamn table. Kids didnât see that though, they didnât see the conversations between their Mothers and Fathers after theyâd gone to bed. All they saw was how little they saw of their Mother, and how often they saw their Father off his face on whatever was cheapest to buy from his dealer that month. Then, to top it all off for Belly, her older brother died whilst she was in the most important, life-shaping years of her life.Â
But this? Oh, hell no. Athena was not going to stand by this. She had joined the force, she was making a difference and now it was time for her to step the fuck up for her daughter. To save her from turning down the same road JJ never returned from. âExcuse me?â Athena asked, brows coming down into a displeased furrow before rising back up again in disbelief. âBellamy Ophelia Jackson, do not make me arrest your ass just so I can talk to my own goddamn daughter!â She threatened. Swallowing thickly, the cop let out a long sigh as she pushed her sunglasses up onto her head. âPlease honey... Let me drive you home.â.
