Prompt Twenty-Three: Clingy Boyfriends
Day 23 for @bucktommyfluffebruary
Of course I've been super busy so what better time for omega Buck to come to my brain!
"Thanks for coming, Tommy."
The scent of the station was off. The metal and smoke that was as familiar as home still lingered along the sun warmed concrete and the clinically unscented soap that always muted the remaining scents from the firefighters that spent most of their days in the firehouse. Crossroads of stories crisscrossed throughout the station of the firefighters that served at the 118. Alphas, betas, omegas all with their own individual signatures muted by the job of fire and ash. It was always so human yet so uniformed. It was why Tommy loved Harbor. The scent of the ocean always lingered above the fuel and the ash that followed them everywhere.
But there was the sour strand of something other that Tommy couldn’t place. Something wrong. Something that didn't belong. Something like… anxiety that twisted in the air like whispers of a wildfire you couldn’t see yet. Tendrils that cloyed at Tommy’s nose and made the hair on the back of his neck stand tall and his hackles rise.
Chimney was as stone faced as Tommy had ever seen him and thankfully didn’t make Tommy stop as he matched his pace across the apparatus bay.
"We were out on a scene. A traffic collision out near Venice Beach when some jerk off scruffed him." Chimney bit back a snarl as he shook his head. His nostrils flared and he blew out a breath from his mouth like it was taking all his control to not give into his baser instincts that had to have been screaming at him. "We haven't been able to bring him top side. We would've taken him to the hospital but..."
"But it just would've stressed him out more." Tommy finished.
Chimney nodded. "Exactly.”
Tommy did stop then. He froze at the base of the stairs leading up to the loft where the scents of stress and worry got stronger and stronger with every breath.
Tommy curled his hands into fists at his side and force himself to inhale. “Please tell me the asshole who grabbed him is in jail before I end up there.”
“Easy killer.” Chimney popped his gum between his molars. The scent of spearmint was artificial and sugary against the web anxiety seeping into their skin. “He’s at LAPD booking as we speak.”
Tommy followed Chimney up to the loft and was hit with a wall of the wrongness almost immediately. It took his brain too many valuable seconds to parse through it all. The worry from Hen as she tried to talk to him. The bright protective flare from Eddie as he showed his teeth from his place standing guard protecting them both.
The distress of an omega trembling from where he was clamping his hand over the back of his neck as if to shield it from the world.
That’s what it was. The sharp wisps of wrong wrong wrong. It was wafting off Evan in waves, rippling into the air until everyone had to be choking on it. And he wouldn’t have been able to get it to stop which only would’ve stressed him out more. It was a vicious cycle he had no way out of without some serious drugs or…
Tommy moved across the loft in three easy strides.
He’d apologize later for entering their den without permission.
“Evan,” he said and his heart kicked against his ribs when Evan flinched, curling in tighter than what should’ve been possible for someone of his size.
Hen made space for Tommy to kneel in front of him and everything that was rippling off Evan was saying get away stay away back back back! Distressed omega was as thick as humidity, pulling sweat on Tommy’s skin, and his instincts were wrenching on his neck to stay clear.
He pushed through their warning and curled his hands on Evan’s knees.
“Evan,” he said again, softer so only he could hear.
The change broke through the fog, through the humidity of anxiety, like a band snapping clean in two. Evan’s scent brightened like lightening, glistening across the air like dew, and sweetened with surprise; with… relief.
Blue eyes peered above the curve of the elbow they’d been hiding behind and Tommy watched as the brows that were knotted together, untangled on an exhale.
Then he fell back on his ass as all two hundred pounds of omega flew into his arms.
“Oomph!” The breath rushed past Tommy’s lips and the desperate trill that purred from Evan was almost enough to have him giving him all the air in his lungs if it was what he wanted.
A damp face shoved immediately into the curve of his throat, nuzzling into Tommy's skin as if chasing his scent while too long legs tried to fold into the space of Tommy's lap. Clumsy, trembling hands grabbed at his waist, his shirt, before a growl, quiet and frustrated, fell out with a sob as Evan yanked and pulled on the material.
"Hey... Hey..." Tommy tried, rubbing his palm up and down the long slop of his spine but Evan was too determined to fight Tommy's shirt than to be soothed. His instincts were on the hunt and the fabric was stretched to the seams as too cold fingers shoved up underneath the material and pressed into his skin. "I'm here, sweetheart. It's okay. Why don't get on the couch?"
He turned his cheek to try and nuzzle into the curls but Evan wouldn't settle. He kept squirming, shoving his arms further up Tommy's chest and stretching his shirt before Evan dragged his cheek down to Tommy's collarbone with a hiss.
Tommy looked up for the others, trying to figure out what the hell he was supposed to do, but the loft was stunningly empty as Evan writhed and squirmed and choked Tommy on his distressed scent the cloyed at the back of his throat the more and more Evan fought with—
A seam popped as Evan shoved his head under Tommy's shirt, pushing one shoulder and then another, before he curled up into the heat of Tommy's chest, clinging to him with tight, desperate fingers. Messy curls tickled beneath Tommy's chin where just the top of Evan's head breached past his collar. The barest tip of Evan's nose pushed against the hollow of his throat and inhaled like it was the first breath of air he'd gotten in days. Bony knees curled into the tight ball pressed against him as if Evan wanted to crawl beneath his skin and hide away.
Tommy let out a rumbling hum before he even realized the vibration had built up in his chest and Evan sighed, melting into Tommy as all the tension thrumming through his body faded away.
The wrongness in the station gave out as if the pack let out a collective sigh, released from the chokehold of Evan's survival instincts going haywire and Tommy could only hang on as Evan clung to him. He would've opened up his chest cavity and tucked him away if he could just so that Evan could be as close as he wanted to be by the way his fingers were digging into Tommy's skin. He was could feel how fast Evan's heart was racing with how close they were and it wasn't enough. Not by a long shot.
He was sure they looked ridiculous. The two of them on the floor with Evan literally curled up under Tommy's shirt like there was enough room to share. But the trembling that was vibrating across Evan's entire body was quieting and the omega finally settled even in his cling. Tommy pressed his cheek back down onto the crown of Evan's head and wrapped his arms around him, squeezing him just as tight.
The easiest purr fell from Evan's lips as he hid away in Tommy's heat, content to stay on the floor in Tommy's arms and Tommy could only calm his own scent as he stretched out his legs and settled in for the long haul.
