Bad Apple 28: A guide to the modern raver beach picnics

I have been fantasizing about having a picnic at a beach..any beach..anything mildly resembling a beach anywhere close to London. I say fantasize for obvious reasons, but the best part for me was working out what 'dutty basslines' and 'banging snacks' I would need with me to make it a success. 

Today's show is all about the recipes that could fit your perfect beach rendez-vous, whether its with a man, woman, child or granny.

Bad Apple 27: What's special about London?

It was just inevitable to come up with an "Olympic" show, but rather than collectively moan about the traffic, the unaccessible tickets and the quick eastend polish, I thought we should concentrate on one very good thing: the exhibition London from the Rooftops from 1st - 22nd August.

Known as 'JB Tottenham' on some circuits, James Burns joins us today to tell how he came about interpreting London from the top of its buildings through the listening of underground music.

In a very special way, he will gather together some music that has inspired his urge to go 'up' to look 'down'. With a photography book soon out for release, you can come enjoy London from the Rooftops for free at the Printspace Gallery in Shoreditch.

Bad Apple 26: Whats makes Skeptical sceptical?

Another 'golden garçon' from the Drum and Bass camp will honour us with his presence today: Skeptical!

Bad Apple 25: Jubilee bites & beats

Today I pay regards to Lizzie and will dedicate the show to all that's JUBILEE.

Jubilee recipes useful if you are planning a picnic or quick bite for lunch using the prime ingredient of Bulgar Wheat.

As so many of you have asked for veggie recipes, I will uncover some of the simplest junglist friendly recipes that make use of this cheap and healthy ingredient.

All of this to the sounds of some Jubilee beats which are the new beats that I believe could stick around (or I would wish they stuck around) for at least another 60 years.

Something else I would like to see stick around for at least 60 years is the label Commercial Suicide that happens to be celebrating its own micro JUBILEE tomorrow evening at Cable.

Bad Apple 22: Moments of Rupture

One half of RUPTURE and partner in crime of equally appreciated dj and producer Mantra.  Both with an obsession for basslines and great parties, this duo began to set London on fire in 2009 with their Rupture events. Now established in a popular south London venue, they have been showcasing some of the darkest novelties in the scene.

Prolix has been around for quite some time, yet he is most known for making some harder, punchier tracks, yet alongside launching his new label Trendkill Records, he has been playing around with different tempos and styles.

Bad Apple 16: Carbonara with Mauoq

Back today with some great news and another simple and delicious recipe for Pasta alla Carbonara....

One chosen by our guest today who is the purest of Italians I have ever met: DJ MAUOQ!

I appreciate that some of you might not have heard of him or are wondering whether I have 'just' invited him because we are from the same town..well, I'm afraid you are wrong sweetpie.

MAUOQ has been coming strong this year with some exciting releases on some super indie labels. His tracks have been played and loved by 'lacreme de la nu-skool' and he also has alot to say with regards to making dnb sound different.

Clearly, even KOOL LONDON cannot ignore what is happening across Europe today and especially in Italy today with our short little friend Berlusconi making all the front pages, so we will be discussing why Italians voted for Berlusconi for 17 years. (that's some mystery uncovered there my friend)

Bad Apple 14: Sun and Bass preview with Seba

Looks like Father Christmas has finally read my letter and made this possible...Seba in the studio this Friday 26th August and a completed 12K paper research handed in on time.

Tracks by Seba in a record shop have always represented in my eyes as a breadth of fresh air, so I am super excited to see Seba performing for the first time at Sun and Bass this year. He will disclose some news on his label Secret Operations and play some tracks for us during his 45 min exclusive set for us.

I will also be playing parts of a recorded interview with Brian Belle-Fortune as he unfortunately got caught up in a car accident on the way to the studio 2 weeks ago. Some real talk on the riots then...

More information on the Sun and Bass Compilation and if you haven't got your tickets to go out there yet, I'm afraid you'll have to wait till (if) it happens again next year.

Bad Apple 13: Brian Belle-Fortune on the UK riot debate

The news of uprising across the UK this week has shaken communities, politicians and the media. It would seem so simple to agree on the extreme violence that we have experienced, yet instead there are some questions that remain unanswered.

Was it a riot or an opportunity? Was it orchestrated by a specific group of people? Was it connected to the shooting in Tottenham? As the media take different sides in depicting the young and old rioters, some influential musicians and artists start making their opinions heard:

"As for the 'mindless violence'… is there anything more mindless than the British taxpayer quietly paying back the debts of others while contributing bullets to conflicts that we have absolutely no understanding of?" from Massive Attack's FB
