GO hot take apparently
Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.
I just watched the good omens finale, and I’m DESTROYED. If you want to commiserate, hit me up cause I am going through it 😂😂🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
I was not prepared for that level of philosophy the ending brought but damn. I’m here for it! I did burst into tears. Full disclosure.
(All spoilers I post on this blog will be tagged! Don’t worry)
So my second book is cancelled. 🫠 the CEO of the indie publisher I signed with died suddenly, and now the company is being dissolved. Sad to lose the chance to collaborate with someone so lovely and passionate. Also sad because I think my literary career might be cursed?
Does anyone know what this structure is called? I suspect it's a UK thing, as I have no idea what to call it, and haven't seen any similar structures in person.
I‘m fairly sure it’s the statue of Anteros (which is popularly, though mistakenly, believed to be of Eros) on Piccadilly Circus in London‘s West End.
It’s just an unusual angle, without the glowing billboards to be seen.
Yet if you check a streetview app, the anatomy of the buildings, streets and the staircase to the Underground all seem to fit.
Usually there‘s hoards of tourists and students lounging on the stairs leading up to the statue, yet this particular picture seems to be taken at a time when there was some construction going on and „shield walls“ were put up.
Hope I could be of some help to you!
OH so the walls around the statue aren’t always there? They aren’t some permanent message board thing?

Quote of the day
I’m seeing a lot of people saying this post changed their brain chemistry, and as a neuroscientist I wanted to say yes!!! Yes it does!
Wanting something requires dopamine signaling, but liking something doesn’t.
If you have a mental illness/disorder that affects dopamine, you might feel that you don’t want to do the things that you like. You do still like them. You will appreciate having done them.
Let your likes guide you.
(If you want to read more, here’s one experimental paper about it. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5171207/ This theory called the incentive-sensitization theory was originally created to explain behaviors in addiction but can be applied elsewhere as well)
Rewards are both ‘liked’ and ‘wanted’, and those two words seem almost interchangeable. However, the brain circuitry that mediates the psych

does anyone have that quote that goes something like 'white germans under the nazis lived just fine as long as they were loyal to the state, gave their children to the army, and paid their taxes, and in this sense many americans would be comfortable living under fascism' trying to find who said it but google is giving me jack shit
"The concentration camp was never the normal condition for the average gentile German. Unless one were Jewish, or poor and unemployed, or of active leftist persuasion or otherwise openly anti-Nazi, Germany from 1933 until well into the war was not a nightmarish place. All the “good Germans” had to do was obey the law, pay their taxes, give their sons to the army, avoid any sign of political heterodoxy, and look the other way when unions were busted and troublesome people disappeared. Since many “middle Americans” already obey the law, pay their taxes, give their sons to the army, are themselves distrustful of political heterodoxy, and applaud when unions are broken and troublesome people are disposed of, they probably could live without too much personal torment in a fascist state — some of them certainly seem eager to do so. I've tried for years to remember what happened out there, to understand why it seemed like I couldn't remember so much of it. Why none of us could. I'm finally starting to realize, we can't remember it because at some point we became so alive in that place that we lost our capacity for self-reflection. The trauma people say survivors forget things to protect themselves because they were so horrible, but I think we can't or won't remember it clearly because we recognize, deep down, that we were having so much fun. That's the terrible truth we left out there, buried. Along with the people we called our friends.
